Widmerpool railway station

Widmerpool is a village and civil parish in Nottinghamshire, about 10 miles south-south-east of Nottingham and some 7.5 miles north-east of Loughborough. It is one of Nottinghamshire's oldest settlements and is just over a mile west of the A46 (the Fosse Way). Extensive dual carriageway road works along the A46 have now been completed. At the time of the 2001 census it had a population of 262, increasing to 339 at the 2011 census, and falling slightly to 327 residents at the 2021 census. Until the 1960s there had not been any building in the village for 100 years. Widmerpool is also the surname of a disreputable character in Anthony Powell's twelve-volume sequence of novels A Dance to the Music of Time. Stanton-on-the-Wolds is a small village and a civil parish in Nottinghamshire, England. It is situated about 6 miles (10 km) south-east of Nottingham, just off the A606 Nottingham to Melton Mowbray road. It is bordered by several other villages, namely, Clipston-on-the-Wolds, Normanton-on-the-Wolds, Keyworth and Widmerpool. 413 residents within the parish were reported at the 2021 census.

Widmerpool Hall is a Grade II listed English country house in Widmerpool, Nottinghamshire. Situated on the north side of the village, it was built in 1872 for Major George Coke Robertson to the designs of Henry Clutton. This neo-Gothic manor house was constructed of Bath and Clipsham stone. It has an Italianate, gargoyle adorned clock-tower without a clock; the space for the clock was left blank out of respect for Robertson's recently deceased wife. It remained a private residence until the breakup of the estate in the 1950s. For several decades at the end of the twentieth century, it was the headquarters of The Automobile Association Patrol Service Training School, popularly known as 'The AA Academy'. British Pathé recorded some of the activities there in 'The AA Story', in 1967. Between 2008 and 2010 it underwent extensive renovation for residential purposes; and this has provided 9 apartments, 11 mews style houses and 4 detached houses. The hall is grade II listed.

Willoughby on the Wolds is a small village in Nottinghamshire, England, on the border with Leicestershire. Its nearest neighbouring villages are Wysall, Widmerpool, Wymeswold and Keyworth, with the nearest towns and cities being Loughborough, Melton Mowbray, Nottingham and Leicester. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 484, increasing to 572 at the 2011 census, and 583 at the 2021 census. The village has its own parish council and comes within the jurisdiction of the Nottinghamshire County Council. The area postcode for the village, however, is in Leicestershire (LE12). The village is the approximate location of the minor civil war battle of Willoughby Field which took place in July 1648. It is also closely linked with the Roman encampment of Vernometum on the Fosse way which runs only a few hundred yards from the village.

The borough also includes the towns of Bingham and Cotgrave as well as numerous villages and surrounding rural areas. Upper Broughton was a railway station serving Upper Broughton in the English county of Nottinghamshire. It was opened on the Nottingham direct line of the Midland Railway between London and Nottingham, avoiding Leicester. The line still exists today as the Old Dalby Test Track.

Clipston, or Clipston on the Wolds, is a small English village and civil parish in the south Nottinghamshire district of Rushcliffe. It lies between Cotgrave and Normanton-on-the-Wolds and is approached by narrow roads that offer views of neighbouring countryside. It has an area of 951 acres (3.85 km2) and a population of 50. This meant it was included with the civil parish of Tollerton in the 2011 Census.

The South Wolds Academy and Sixth Form (formerly known as South Wolds Community School, and before that, South Wolds Comprehensive) is a secondary school and sixth form with academy status, on Church Drive in Keyworth, Nottingham. It teaches students ages 11–18, and is non-denominational. It was opened in 1967, and has a capacity of 1,114 students, with a current enrolment figure of 820 (as of March 2020).The school converted to an academy on 1 June 2012.
