Katlakalns is a neighbourhood of Riga, the capital of Latvia. It is linked to Ķengarags and Maskavas forštate by the Southern Bridge erected in 2004-2008 and opened on November 17, 2008.Katlakalns village of Ķekava parish also belongs to this neighborhood.

Daugmale Station is a railway station on the Riga – Daugavpils Railway. Currently, no diesel trains to Daugavpils stop at the station. It is only served by electric trains to Ogre, Lielvarde, and Aizkraukle.

Šķirotava is a neighbourhood of Riga, the capital of Latvia. It is located in the Latgale Suburb of Riga close to the city's southeastern border. The perfect way to get there is by Rīgas Satiksme companies buses: N3, N13, N15, N20, N34, N47, N48, N50, N52 or trolleybuses N16 and N22. The neighborhood is serviced by Šķirotava station.

Rumbula Air Base (ICAO: EVRC) is an air base located 11 kilometres (7 mi) southeast of Riga city centre in Latvia. The airfield was used for military purposes in the 1950s and 1960s. In the 1960s it was used as temporary passenger airport for bigger planes until the new Riga International Airport was opened in 1973. At least since 2001 there has been no military or commercial aviation based in Rumbula. Now it is mainly used as the biggest auto market in Latvia, and only about five small general aviation planes are based here. The runway is in very poor condition. It has many potholes and concrete blocks are often used to learn how to drive a car, or for "test drives" of cars to be sold at the market. It is difficult to find a continuous stretch of road without obstacles longer than 3,000 metres (9,800 ft). There are also a few "bomb-proof" camouflaged military hangars (one example is located at 56°53'08.39" N / 24°13'33.93" E). The hangars are mainly used as storage or general purpose facilities; they are not obvious on satellite images and are not freely accessible on the ground. However, lately, mainly on weekends, motorized paragliders and ultra-light planes are using the runway. Airsport enthusiasts are taking control of the runway and stop students from driving cars so that they will not interfere with gliders and planes. The air traffic from Rumbula can be seen flying mainly southward over Rumbula and along the Daugava river at heights of up to 300 metres (980 ft).

Krūmiņsala ('Shrub Island') is a small island located in Latvia's capital city of Riga. It is located in the downstream of the Daugava, on the left coast near the border of the city. The island is located across the mouth of the River Olekte. Krūmiņsala is a part of the neighborhood of Katlakalns. It is 0.5 km long and 0.14 km wide, with an average height of 2-2,5 metres above the water level of Daugava. The island is uninhabited, covered with trees and shrubs. As a separate island, Krūmiņsala has existed at least since the mid-17th century. It is possible to reach the island by means of a boat berth installed in the summer of 2020. Cultural events have been held on the island since 2021 by the organizers of the Sansusī chamber music festival.

The Southern Bridge (Latvian: Dienvidu tilts) is an extradosed bridge built across the Daugava River in Riga, the capital of Latvia. The bridge was constructed between 2004 and 2008, and was opened on November 17, 2008. Construction of the access roads lasted until 2013. Because of the bridge's huge cost it also become colloquially known as The Golden Bridge (Zelta tilts).

The Rumbula massacre is a collective term for incidents on November 30 and December 8, 1941, in which about 25,000 Jews were murdered in or on the way to Rumbula forest near Riga, Latvia, during World War II. Except for the Babi Yar massacre in Ukraine, this was the biggest two-day Holocaust atrocity until the operation of the death camps. About 24,000 of the victims were Latvian Jews from the Riga Ghetto and approximately 1,000 were German Jews transported to the forest by train. The Rumbula massacre was carried out by the Nazi Einsatzgruppe A with the help of local collaborators of the Arajs Kommando, with support from other such Latvian auxiliaries. In charge of the operation was Höherer SS und Polizeiführer Friedrich Jeckeln, who had previously overseen similar massacres in Ukraine. Rudolf Lange, who later participated in the Wannsee Conference, also took part in organizing the massacre. Some of the accusations against Latvian Herberts Cukurs are related to the clearing of the Riga Ghetto by the Arajs Kommando. The Rumbula killings, together with many others, formed the basis of the post-World War II Einsatzgruppen trial where a number of Einsatzgruppen commanders were found guilty of crimes against humanity.

Pļavnieki is a Riga neighbourhood situated to the right of the river Daugava. Territory of the Pļavnieki for many centuries was used as agricultural land and was added to Riga only in 1974. The name "Pļavnieki" is derived from Latvian word "pļava" meaning meadow. Project of the new residential neighbourhood for 60,000 people was finished in 1978. Majority of the current residential buildings are built in 1980s. Pļavnieki is one of the most densely inhabited neighbourhoods in Riga. The total area of the Pļavnieki neighborhood is 2,985 km², which is approximately 2/5 less than the average neighborhood area in Riga. The length of the perimeter of the neighborhood borders is 7,664 meters. The boundaries of the Pļavnieki neighborhood in nature are clearly readable as they follow major roads. The current building structure in Pļavnieki largely differs from the building structure in neighboring neighborhoods. Pļavnieki is a densely populated neighborhood with predominantly 9 to 16-story buildings, as well as individual 18-story buildings.
