The Laurel Mill was a multi-use mill located along the Patuxent River in Laurel, Maryland. Built by Nicholas Snowden on the site of an earlier grist mill, Laurel Mill operated intermittently between 1811 and 1929, manufacturing flour, cloth, cotton duck and other cotton products, and window shades. Between 1835 and 1851 the mill was operated by Horace Capron, who had married into the Snowden family, and the Patuxent Manufacturing Company, who also established the town of Laurel Factory, which was incorporated as Laurel in 1870. Laurel Mill closed by 1929 and was razed in the 1940s, and the grounds of the mill now include the City of Laurel Municipal Pool. The Laurel Museum currently sits opposite the Laurel Mill site, in a home constructed by the mill company.

St. Vincent Pallotti High School, usually called Pallotti, is a private Catholic school in eastern Laurel, Maryland. It was founded by the Pallottines in 1921 and is within the Archdiocese of Washington. Pallotti is a co-ed school serving young men and women from Prince George's County, Howard County, Anne Arundel County, and Montgomery County. The school is currently attended by approximately 500 students. The school is noted for its MIAA Varsity Boys Lacrosse Championship victory over The Park School at Johns Hopkins in 2006 and its Varsity Girls Soccer IAAM "A" conference championship victory in 2007. Pallotti is home to the 2014 Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association C Conference Football Champions.

Laurel Branch Library is the Laurel, Maryland branch of the Prince George's County Memorial Library System, at the intersection of Seventh Street and Talbott Avenue. The current Stanley Memorial Building opened to the public on November 28, 2016.This branch's buildings have been named after the family of Charles H. Stanley, who was a city commissioner (1880–1882), mayor (1891–1893), and state comptroller (1911–1912). Friends of the Laurel Library, a philanthropic group of local community members, has supported the branch since January 1996.

Old Laurel High School is a historic former school building on Montgomery Street in Laurel, Maryland. Built in 1899, it was the original home of Laurel High School, and now houses a community center.Laurel High School was founded in 1899 with an enrollment of 59 students and four teachers. According to the city government, as reported by The Washington Post, the 1900 graduating class was all women. The original school building is now the Phelps Community Center in Laurel. The cupola on top was used during World War II as a Civil Defense Aircraft Spotting Station for identifying enemy aircraft. In 1965, the high school was moved to a larger building on Cherry Lane. The last class at the original location held a 50th reunion in 2015.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 as "Laurel High School".

The Souder House is a historic commercial building located in Scaggsville, Maryland, Howard County, Maryland, now owned by the Howard County Government. The building is two levels with stone veneer facing. The building is located on a former 250 acre slave plantation once owned by the Botterill Family, who the Howard County town of Botterill, Maryland are named after. It is inset in a graded fork of Old Scaggsville Road and All Saint's road, serving as the primary entrance to the mill town of Laurel, Maryland on the other side of the Patuxent River. A bridge served as the community link to the Avondale Mill and main street connecting to the historic B&O railroad stop. The building served as a bar, grocery store, fueling station, and hair salon. Its last commercial owners were the Souder Construction Company. In December 2014, Howard County purchased the building for $325,000 holding a community meeting on its condition. In December 2015, the county held a meeting announcing its intention to demolish the building. The county did not publish a historical review, but claimed a historian had cleared the property because of its "mishmash" architecture.

Laurel is a city in Maryland, United States, located midway between Washington, D.C. and Baltimore on the banks of the Patuxent River. While the city limits are entirely in northern Prince George's County, outlying developments extend into Anne Arundel, Montgomery and Howard counties. Founded as a mill town in the early 19th century, Laurel expanded local industry and was later able to become an early commuter town for Washington and Baltimore workers following the arrival of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in 1835. Largely residential today, the city maintains a historic district centered on its Main Street, highlighting its industrial past. The Department of Defense is a prominent presence in the Laurel area today, with the Fort Meade Army base, the NSA and Johns Hopkins' Applied Physics Laboratory all located nearby. Laurel Park, a thoroughbred horse racetrack, is located just outside the city limits.

High Ridge is an unincorporated community in Howard County, Maryland, United States. A postal stop operated from May 25, 1892, through December 1895 and until May 1899 as "Highridge".The community is roughly bounded by the Patuxent River boundary between Howard and Prince George's County, Maryland Route 216, and Interstate 95. The modern community is mostly residential, with the installation of high-tension power lines and infill development leading local concerns.

Towne Centre at Laurel is a shopping center in Laurel, Maryland. It was built on the former site of Laurel Mall.

Laurel Mall was a shopping mall located on the west side of U.S. Route 1 in Laurel, Maryland. The mall opened on October 11, 1979 and connected two pre-existing structures – the freestanding Montgomery Ward on its south side and Laurel Shopping Center to the north. The mall closed permanently on May 1, 2012.

Laurel Shopping Center is an open-air shopping complex located in Laurel, Maryland, on U.S. Route 1 just south of Maryland Route 198, and is positioned next to the Towne Centre at Laurel. The shopping center is widely known as the site of the 1972 near-fatal attempted assassination on Alabama Governor George Wallace during his campaign for the U.S. presidency.

Elizabeth House is a nonprofit food pantry and soup kitchen in Laurel, Maryland. It was founded in 1988 and is managed by Fish of Laurel.

The Eisenhower House, also known as "Mrs. Ray's Boarding House," is a historic house constructed in 1879 located in Laurel in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States listed in the Maryland Historical Trust. Originally constructed in 1879 as a private residence shortly after the incorporation of the city of Laurel, the building is a two-story, L-shaped structure four bays wide. The three rightmost bays along the south side of the building function as the front of the building and connect to a covered porch, while the leftmost bay projects forward to create the building's L-shape. The floor plan of the structure follows a center-passage plan, with the entrance and stair hall connecting from the second bay from the left when facing the front of the building. The interior of the first floor of the house retains most of the original Victorian decoration. After initial construction, a shed kitchen was added to the rear of the building. Most of the building is covered with a gabled roof, excepting the porch and shed kitchen which are covered by a shed roof.
