Laurel Mall (Maryland)

Towne Centre at Laurel is a shopping center in Laurel, Maryland. It was built on the former site of Laurel Mall.

Laurel is a city in Maryland, United States, located midway between Washington, D.C. and Baltimore on the banks of the Patuxent River. While the city limits are entirely in northern Prince George's County, outlying developments extend into Anne Arundel, Montgomery and Howard counties. Founded as a mill town in the early 19th century, Laurel expanded local industry and was later able to become an early commuter town for Washington and Baltimore workers following the arrival of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in 1835. Largely residential today, the city maintains a historic district centered on its Main Street, highlighting its industrial past. The Department of Defense is a prominent presence in the Laurel area today, with the Fort Meade Army base, the NSA and Johns Hopkins' Applied Physics Laboratory all located nearby. Laurel Park, a thoroughbred horse racetrack, is located just outside the city limits.

Laurel Shopping Center is an open-air shopping complex located in Laurel, Maryland, on U.S. Route 1 just south of Maryland Route 198, and is positioned next to the Towne Centre at Laurel. The shopping center is widely known as the site of the 1972 near-fatal attempted assassination on Alabama Governor George Wallace during his campaign for the U.S. presidency.

Elizabeth House is a nonprofit food pantry and soup kitchen in Laurel, Maryland. It was founded in 1988 and is managed by Fish of Laurel.

Laurel Branch Library is the Laurel, Maryland branch of the Prince George's County Memorial Library System, at the intersection of Seventh Street and Talbott Avenue. The current Stanley Memorial Building opened to the public on November 28, 2016.This branch's buildings have been named after the family of Charles H. Stanley, who was a city commissioner (1880–1882), mayor (1891–1893), and state comptroller (1911–1912). Friends of the Laurel Library, a philanthropic group of local community members, has supported the branch since January 1996.

The Laurel Sanitarium for Nervous and Mental Diseases was a prominent sanitarium, and later a women's nursing home, and landmark building along U.S. Route 1 in Laurel, Maryland. The sanitarium was founded in 1905 by Dr. Jesse C. Coggins and Dr. Cornelius DeWeese to treat patients with mental illness and addiction. It was converted to a women's nursing home in 1950. The facility closed after Coggins' death in 1963, and was demolished by controlled fire in 1964.

Old Laurel High School is a historic former school building on Montgomery Street in Laurel, Maryland. Built in 1899, it was the original home of Laurel High School, and now houses a community center.Laurel High School was founded in 1899 with an enrollment of 59 students and four teachers. According to the city government, as reported by The Washington Post, the 1900 graduating class was all women. The original school building is now the Phelps Community Center in Laurel. The cupola on top was used during World War II as a Civil Defense Aircraft Spotting Station for identifying enemy aircraft. In 1965, the high school was moved to a larger building on Cherry Lane. The last class at the original location held a 50th reunion in 2015.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 as "Laurel High School".

The Eisenhower House, also known as "Mrs. Ray's Boarding House," is a historic house constructed in 1879 located in Laurel in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States listed in the Maryland Historical Trust. Originally constructed in 1879 as a private residence shortly after the incorporation of the city of Laurel, the building is a two-story, L-shaped structure four bays wide. The three rightmost bays along the south side of the building function as the front of the building and connect to a covered porch, while the leftmost bay projects forward to create the building's L-shape. The floor plan of the structure follows a center-passage plan, with the entrance and stair hall connecting from the second bay from the left when facing the front of the building. The interior of the first floor of the house retains most of the original Victorian decoration. After initial construction, a shed kitchen was added to the rear of the building. Most of the building is covered with a gabled roof, excepting the porch and shed kitchen which are covered by a shed roof.

St. Vincent Pallotti High School, usually called Pallotti, is a private Catholic school in eastern Laurel, Maryland. It was founded by the Pallottines in 1921 and is within the Archdiocese of Washington. Pallotti is a co-ed school serving young men and women from Prince George's County, Howard County, Anne Arundel County, and Montgomery County. The school is currently attended by approximately 500 students. The school is noted for its MIAA Varsity Boys Lacrosse Championship victory over The Park School at Johns Hopkins in 2006 and its Varsity Girls Soccer IAAM "A" conference championship victory in 2007. Pallotti is home to the 2014 Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association C Conference Football Champions.

Ivy Hill Cemetery is on the north side of Old Sandy Spring Road across from its intersection with Nichols Drive in Laurel, Maryland, United States, within the city's historic district. Burials began in the 19th century after the Laurel Cotton Mill reserved three acres in the 1850s for burial of mill employees. The Ivy Hill Cemetery Company acquired the original land, known as both the Laurel Mill Cemetery and Greenwood Cemetery, and added five more acres in 1890. Ivy Hill merged with Greenwood Cemetery in 1944, bringing its size to ten acres. A joint memorial service is held annually by the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department, Laurel Volunteer Rescue Squad, and Laurel Police Department. The Ivy Hill Association, a tax exempt organization formed in 1973, was appointed by the Circuit Court of Prince George's County as the cemetery's trustee in 1974. The organization received a Saint George's Day award in 1981 from the Prince George's County Historical Society for preserving and salvaging the cemetery. The oldest gravestone, for a man named Pritchard, dates to 1867.

The Gude House is a historic house located in Laurel, Maryland in Prince George's, Maryland, United States. The property was originally part of Snowden's New Birmingham Manor. Mary Tyson and her sisters, who had opened a seminary in Washington, D.C. in the 1800s, opened their second ("Alnwick") seminary in southwest Laurel in 1855 on part of the Snowden property they purchased, and the Society of Friends provided a non-secular curriculum. This three-story brick building was featured in an 1852 lithograph; fire destroyed the seminary building in 1920.The three-story brick building with a kitchen addition and second wing were built in 1856 by John D. McPherson who bought 50 acres of land just south of the Alnwick Seminary building from the Tyson sisters. In 1866 the property was expanded with 8 acres purchased from Samuel Register. In 1875, French horticulturalist Armand Jardin purchased the property, living onsite until 1904. In 1926, after a succession of short-term owners, William Gude purchased and restored the property which remained in his family until 1980. Gude was a greenhouse and retail flower shop owner. The property was subdivided in 1988 for commercial office parks at Laurel Lakes with 1.3 acres and the Gude house remaining.

The Laurel Mill was a multi-use mill located along the Patuxent River in Laurel, Maryland. Built by Nicholas Snowden on the site of an earlier grist mill, Laurel Mill operated intermittently between 1811 and 1929, manufacturing flour, cloth, cotton duck and other cotton products, and window shades. Between 1835 and 1851 the mill was operated by Horace Capron, who had married into the Snowden family, and the Patuxent Manufacturing Company, who also established the town of Laurel Factory, which was incorporated as Laurel in 1870. Laurel Mill closed by 1929 and was razed in the 1940s, and the grounds of the mill now include the City of Laurel Municipal Pool. The Laurel Museum currently sits opposite the Laurel Mill site, in a home constructed by the mill company.
