Cobridge railway station

Cobridge is an area of Stoke-on-Trent, in the City of Stoke-on-Trent district, in the county of Staffordshire, England. Cobridge was marked on the 1775 Yates map as 'Cow Bridge' and was recorded in Ward records (1843) as Cobridge Gate.Cobridge has a car dealer centre (Holdcroft Honda Cobridge) on Sneyd Street, a community centre and a C of E church called Christ Church on Emery Street which is Grade II listed.Cobridge once had a railway station on the Potteries Loop Line.There was once an old school house in Cobridge, at the bottom of Sneyd Street and demolished in 1897. A Victorian school once stood adjacent to Christ Church on the corner of Emery and Mawdesley Streets. The old Granville school was replaced by the new Forest Park school. St. Peter's Catholic school still exists in the area.Cobridge was the location of the Athletic Ground, now the site of a sheltered housing and nursing home complex. Circa 1870, it had a population of 3,378 as recorded in the Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales.The Headquarters of the Air Training Corps 388 (City of Stoke-on-Trent) Squadron are at the RFCA Centre, Martin Leake House, Waterloo Road.

Burslem ( BURZ-ləm) is one of the six towns that along with Hanley, Tunstall, Fenton, Longton and Stoke-upon-Trent form part of the city of Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire, England. It is often referred to as the "mother town" of Stoke on Trent.

Waterloo Road railway station was built by the North Staffordshire Railway as part of on the Potteries Loop Line and served the north of the town of Hanley, Staffordshire. The station opened in 1900 and closed to passengers in 1943. General goods traffic remained until 1966 with oil traffic continuing until 1969 No trace of the station remains today, the station was at the road crossing on Waterloo Road between Hanley and Cobridge.

The Sneyd Colliery Disaster was a coal mining accident on 1 January 1942 in Burslem in the English city of Stoke-on-Trent. An underground explosion occurred at 7:50 am, caused by sparks from wagons underground igniting coal dust. A total of 57 men and boys died.

The Bethel Chapel in Burslem is a former Methodist church in Waterloo Road, in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. It was built in 1824 as a church of the Methodist New Connexion, and the church closed in 1955. It is a Grade II listed building.

Burslem Park is a public park in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England, operated by Stoke-on-Trent City Council. It was opened in 1894, and is essentially unchanged from the original layout. It is listed Grade II* in Historic England's Register of Parks and Gardens.The park received a Green Flag Award in July 2023.

Burslem railway station was a station on the Potteries Loop Line that served the town of Burslem, Staffordshire. It was located on Moorland Road, adjacent to Burslem Park. It should have opened with the extension of the Potteries Loop Line from Hanley on 1 November 1873 but the Board of Trade inspector was not satisfied so there was a delay of a month before opening.The station closed in 1964 when the Loop Line closed. Most traces of the station have been removed although the old stationmaster's house, known as Station House, is still occupied on a site between the old line and Burslem Park on Moorland Road. The site of the station, sidings etc., is now part of a Greenway for walkers and cyclists running along part of the route of the old Loop Line which has been landscaped.

St John the Baptist's Church is an Anglican church in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. It is a Grade II listed building.

Bradeley is in Staffordshire, England, in the city of Stoke-on-Trent. It was mentioned in the Domesday Book but became more established as a mining community for the local coal pits in Norton and Chatterley Whitfield. A hostel existed on the east side of Chell Heath Road until the 1970s, where incoming miners from different parts of Britain and also overseas would be housed. There were several farms around the village which gradually sold for development. Some former farmland is now used for sport and recreation. In the 1960s there were three churches; an Anglican, a Methodist church in Brammer Street and a Primitive Methodist church in Unwin Street. Today there is a new non-denominational church called Emmanuel church on Chell Heath Road, close to the site of the original Church of England church. Nearby is The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. A Co-Op grocery store stood on Moorland View with an attached butchers shop. Moorland View also boasts a public house called The Talbot Inn at the junction with Unwin Street and, at one time, Bradeley Workingmens Club on a site that is awaiting redevelopment. On Unwin Street there was a post office which was eventually transferred to the shop on the corner of Chell Heath Road and Hayes Street but has since been closed; it now serves as a sandwich shop. There were also a number of corner stores selling confectionery, ice cream, etc. A small store is located within the Bradeley Village retirement community located on Brammer Street, to serve the residents there. A public house named The Bradeley was built in the 1970s when housing was built and Stratheden Road opened up a link from Bradeley to High Lane and onwards to Burslem. Bradeley was also known for brickmaking until the early 1970s - the Wilkinson Bros. factory was located at Acreswood, on the west side of the village, where clay was drawn from a pit and high quality bricks made.

The United Reformed Church is a church on Moorland Road in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. It is a Grade II listed building, completed in 1906. It was originally a Congregational church.

Swan Bank Methodist Church is a Methodist church in Swan Square, Burslem, in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. The present church, built in 1971, replaced the earlier building of 1801.

The Stoke-on-Trent National Garden Festival was the second of Britain's national garden festivals. It was held in the city from 1 May to 26 October 1986, and was opened by the Queen. Preparation of the site involved the reclamation of land formerly occupied by the Shelton Bar steelworks (1830–1978), about two miles north-west of Stoke-on-Trent city centre, between Hanley and Burslem. British Steel's adjacent Shelton Bar steel rolling mill remained in use, finally closing in 2000.
