The Presqu'île (pronounced [pʁɛskil] (listen); literally "almost an island" in French, meaning "peninsula") is the central part of the City of Lyon, France. Extending from the foot of the Croix-Rousse hill in the north to the confluence of the Rhône and the Saône rivers in the south, it has a preponderance of cafés, restaurants, luxury shops, department stores, banks, government buildings and cultural institutions. The 1st and 2nd arrondissements of the city are located here, along with the Hôtel de Ville, Lyon's city hall in its 1st arrondissement. The spires of the Church of St. Nizier, rebuilt from the 14th to the 16th centuries, are at the foot of the former Saône river bridge. With a history stretching back to the Middle Ages, Lyon's Presqu'île was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List along with other districts in Lyon as a testimony to Lyon's long history as an important European city and its architecture.

The Catholic University of Lyon (Université Catholique de Lyon), or the Lyon Catholic University also known as the Catholic Institute of Lyon (Institut catholique de Lyon), is a private university based in Lyon, France.

ESDES School of Business and Management (École supérieure pour le développement économique et social) is located in Lyon, France. It was created in 1987, within the Catholic University of Lyon ( UCLy). ESDES is state-recognised and its diploma carries the "visa" of approval and the master's degree of the French Ministry of Education, the master in management program is EPAS accredited. The school is private and part of the Conférence des Grandes Écoles and AACSB accredited.It delivers several diplomas from Bac +3 to Bac +5 (Master in Management, Bachelor in Business, preparation for the DSCG). The Grande Ecole Program or Master in management is a Bac + 5 diploma approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research and whose holders are awarded the grade of master5. The Grande Ecole Program of ESDES Lyon Business School is EPAS accredited by the EFMD. Admission to the 1st year of the Grande Ecole program of the ESDES is by the ACCESS Competition and via a parallel admission procedure in the 3rd and 4th years. The Bachelor in Business is a 3-year program. Admission is through an ESDES competition.

Perrache Multimodal Hub (Centre d'échanges de Perrache in French), also called Perrache or Lyon-Perrache, is a major transport hub in the 2nd arrondissement of Lyon. It is a large building with five levels, located next to the Lyon-Perrache railway station which is directly linked by a pedestrian footbridge. Named Perrache in the TCL urban transit network, it is a major hub served by métro line A, tramway lines T1 and T2 and many bus lines. The building also houses a coach station served by regional, national and international coach services. Some shops and restaurants are located inside. The junction between metropolitan highways M6 and M7 is located under the building.

The Lyonnais (French pronunciation: [ljɔnɛ] (listen)) is a historical province of France which owes its name to the city of Lyon. The geographical area known as the Lyonnais became part of the Kingdom of Burgundy after the division of the Carolingian Empire. The disintegration of Imperial control, especially after the fall of the Hohenstaufens in 1254, led to French encroachment and eventual acquisition by King Philip IV of France in 1313. Lyonnais now often simply refers to the area around the city of Lyon. The local speech-form known as Lyonnais is a dialect of the Francoprovençal language that is spoken in the region, but its use is marginal.

Ainay is an area within the Presqu'ile district in the 2nd arrondissement of Lyon, to the south of Place Bellecour and the north of Perrache. It is best known for its Romanesque church, the Basilica of Saint-Martin d'Ainay. A high-class area, bourgeoise, in the city centre, its buildings mainly date to the Bourbon Restoration era. It now houses the 2nd arrondissement's town-hall, as well as many shops along its pedestrianised main street, Rue Victor-Hugo. It is served by the Metro station Ampère - Victor Hugo. Several hypotheses have been raised as to its name, which may be linked to Athanase (Athanasius) or, more doubtfully, to Athena.

The Place Ampère is a pedestrian square located in the Ainay square, in the 2nd arrondissement of Lyon. It is nearly the middle of the rue Victor-Hugo and is served by the metro station Ampère - Victor Hugo.

The Brasserie Georges is a restaurant located in the 2nd arrondissement of Lyon. It is the oldest brasserie in the city and one of the largest brasseries in Europe. Its reputation is now international. With a history closely linked to that of Lyon, the brasserie serves typical dishes including the famous sausage of Lyon with pistachios, and recipes from other regions such as sauerkraut, baked Alaska or the seafood. In 1986 was served the biggest sauerkraut in the world; its weighed a ton and a half. In 1996, the largest baked Alaska (34 metres) has been served. The Brassarie Georges brews its own beer, a tradition from its inception, when water in Lyon was considered of exceptional quality. The restaurant never closes during the year. Over seven-hundred guests can be served at each service. On 8 December, during the fête des lumières, over 2,500 meals were served in a service. It is sometimes called the BG or Le Georges.

The Basilica of Saint-Martin d'Ainay (French: Basilique Saint-Martin d'Ainay) is a Romanesque church in Ainay in the Presqu'île district in the historic centre of Lyon, France. A quintessential example of Romanesque architecture, it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List along with other notable buildings in the centre of Lyon as a testimony to Lyon's long history as an important European town and unique blend of architectural styles.

Lyon-Perrache (French: gare de Lyon-Perrache) is a large railway station located in the Perrache district, in the 2nd arrondissement of Lyon, France. The station was opened in 1857 and is located on the Paris–Marseille railway, Lyon–Geneva railway and Moret–Lyon railway. The train services are operated by SNCF and include TGV, Intercity and local services. The station was built in 18 months starting in 1855 by François-Alexis Cendrier for the Chemin de fer de Paris à Lyon. From the beginning it was designed as a central station unifying the lines of the three companies then serving Lyon, which merged to form the Chemins de fer de Paris à Lyon et à la Méditerranée (PLM) as the station was opening. The building was built in classical style and is composed of a double rooftop and a large passenger building. The station lost its view of the city when an intermodal terminal (combining local public transit and intercity buses) and dual-carriageway highway were built in front of it in the 1970s. Although much modern building has somewhat tarnished the look of the area, the station retains many of its original features: The station front features the names of towns served by trains departing Lyon-Perrache. The platforms are covered by two twin iron rooftops.It is the terminus of the LGV Sud-Est line, the high-speed railway line from Paris. It is also served by conventional trains from other parts of France, and is the terminus of line of the Lyon Metro. It is also the terminus of one of the Lyon tram lines. Today, however, Perrache is no longer the primary rail station serving Lyon. Instead, the Gare de Lyon-Part-Dieu, constructed in the 1970s in a large planned business district outside the central city, acts as the more popular embarkation point for most high-speed trains, especially to Paris and the north.

The Hôtel Mercure Lyon Centre Château Perrache, originally Hôtel Terminus, then Pullman Perrache, then Château Perrache, is a hotel of the AccorHotels group built in 1906. It is located on cours de Verdun in the 2nd arrondissement of Lyon. The hotel was used as the headquarters for the Gestapo in Lyon during the Second World War. It is the eponym of the Marcel Ophüls film Hôtel Terminus: The Life and Times of Klaus Barbie about the Gestapo in Lyon.

The 2nd arrondissement of Lyon is one of the nine arrondissements of the City of Lyon.
