Trustom Pond

The North Cape oil spill took place on January 19, 1996, when the tank barge North Cape and the tug Scandia grounded on Moonstone Beach in South Kingstown, Rhode Island, after the tug caught fire in its engine room during a winter storm. An estimated 828,000 US gallons (3,130 m3) of home heating oil was spilled. Oil spread throughout a large area of Block Island Sound, including Trustom Pond National Wildlife Refuge, resulting in the closure of a 250-square-mile (650 km2) area of the sound for fishing. Hundreds of oiled birds and large numbers of dead lobsters, surf clams, and starfish were recovered in the weeks following the spill. US federal and Rhode Island state governments undertook considerable work to clean up the spill and restore lost fishery stocks and coastal marine habitat. The North Cape oil spill is considered a significant legal precedent in that it was the first major oil spill in the continental U.S. after the passage of the Oil Pollution Act of 1990, resulting from the Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska on March 24, 1989.

Cards Pond, or Card Pond, is a coastal lagoon in South Kingstown, Washington County, Rhode Island, United States.

Browning's Beach Historic District is a historic district west of the junction between Card Pond and Matunuck Beach Roads in South Kingstown, Rhode Island. It encompasses a cluster of four beach houses located on a barrier beach facing Long Island Sound south of Cards Pond, and accessed via a private gravel drive extending from Cards Pond Road. The four houses, along with several outbuildings, were built in the early years of the 20th century, and are architecturally diverse expressions of Queen Anne, Shingle, and Colonial Revival elements. Typical architectural elements include shingle siding, recessed porches, and chalet-style roofs. Unfortunately, erosion and storms like Hurricane Sandy in 2012 caused damage to the beaches and houses. The four houses are know all on pegs and have been moved back from their original locations.The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

Theatre-By-the-Sea (also known as Theater by the Sea) is a historic theater and playhouse at Cards Pond Road in South Kingstown, Rhode Island. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

The Perry-Carpenter Grist Mill is a historic mill at 364 Moonstone Beach Road in South Kingstown, Rhode Island. It is a small, single-story wood-frame structure set on a granite foundation close to the east side of the road. Its property includes the historic head and tail races which provide the water power for the mill. The mill was built c. 1716 by James Perry, and was moved to its present location sometime before 1789. It is the only one of four known mills of the period to survive, and is likely the oldest corn mill in the state that is still operational.The mill was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

Roy Carpenter's Beach is a private beach in the town of South Kingstown in Washington County, Rhode Island. It is located near the village of Matunuck , on Route 1 at the Matunuck Beach Road exit, near Mary Carpenter's, the South Kingstown Town Beach, Moonstone Beach, and the Theatre by the Sea. The beach has yellow sand and slopes near the water. The beach has a lot of rocks in the water and on the shoreline, and has suffered from significant erosion in the past several years. One winter storm heavily damaged the beachfront store Bud's and destroyed the road that paralleled the beach and separated the first row of cottages on the East side from the beach. The water is often rough and there is a steep dropoff in the first few feet of water. Often there is a heavy undertow. There are lifeguards during the summer season and surfboards, boogie boards, and rafts are allowed at either end of the beach.

The Red House is a historic house in South Kingstown, Rhode Island. The main block, a 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame structure was probably built sometime in the early 18th century, and has long been a landmark in the Perryville village, receiving its name in the early 19th century. It is distinctive for period houses because of its asymmetrical facade, and was carefully restored in the late 1980s.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

Dewey Cottage is a historic house in South Kingstown, Rhode Island. The cottage, now operated as the Admiral Dewey Inn, was built in 1898 in a late-Victorian style and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.

Matunuck is a village in South Kingstown, Rhode Island, United States near Charlestown, Rhode Island. The village is located on a point along the southern Atlantic coast of Rhode Island off U.S. Route 1. The village takes its name from a Native American word meaning "lookout". The Narragansett tribe made a summer encampment at this location before the land was sold to colonists as part of the Pettaquamscutt purchase.

Willow Dell, also known as the Weeden Farm, is a historic farmhouse in South Kingstown, Rhode Island. It is located on the south side of the highway, just west of Matunuck Beach Road, on a 7-acre (2.8 ha) parcel of land. The main block of the 2+1⁄2-story gambrel-roofed house was built c. 1752 by Colonel Jeremiah Bowen, and was purchased in 1826 by Wager Weeden, whose descendants still own the property. The property includes two barns, a garage, and a stable which has been converted to residential use, as well as the Wager Weeden Memorial Fountain, visible on the south side of the highway by a stone marker.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

The Edward Everett Hale House (New Sybaris; The Red House) is a historic house at 2625A Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry Highway in South Kingstown, Rhode Island. It was commissioned in 1873 by businessman and historian William B. Weeden and designed by architects C. Maxson & Company of Westerly. Edward Everett Hale used the house as a summer home for himself and his family for several decades from the 1870s to the 1910s. The house and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.
