Nordstan

Brunnsparken (Swedish for "well park") is a central square in Gothenburg, Sweden. It is located between Nordstan and Arkaden, and between two of Gothenburg's oldest streets, Norra Hamngatan and Södra Hamngatan (actually bordering Stora Hamnkanalen to the north). With its central location "Inom Vallgraven" and with numerous shopping centres it is a popular meeting place in Gothenburg.

Såningskvinnan (French: La Semeuse), meaning "the sowing woman", popularly known as Johanna i Brunnsparken, is a statue of a standing woman in Gothenburg, Sweden, sculpted by Per Hasselberg in 1883. The original gypsum version of the statue remains at the Medicinal history museum of Gothenburg. Såningskvinnan is thought of as the second oldest statue in Gothenburg and its first female statue.

Gothenburg ( (listen); abbreviated Gbg; Swedish: Göteborg [jœtɛˈbɔrj] (listen)) is the second-largest city in Sweden, fifth-largest in the Nordic countries, and capital of the Västra Götaland County. It is situated by the Kattegat, on the west coast of Sweden, and has a population of approximately 590,000 in the city proper and about 1.1 million inhabitants in the metropolitan area.Gothenburg was founded as a heavily fortified, primarily Dutch, trading colony, by royal charter in 1621 by King Gustavus Adolphus. In addition to the generous privileges (e.g. tax relaxation) given to his Dutch allies from the ongoing Thirty Years' War, the king also attracted significant numbers of his German and Scottish allies to populate his only town on the western coast. At a key strategic location at the mouth of the Göta älv, where Scandinavia's largest drainage basin enters the sea, the Port of Gothenburg is now the largest port in the Nordic countries.Gothenburg is home to many students, as the city includes the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology. Volvo was founded in Gothenburg in 1927. The original parent Volvo Group and the now-separate Volvo Car Corporation are still headquartered on the island of Hisingen in the city. Other key companies are Ericsson, SKF and AstraZeneca. Gothenburg is served by Göteborg Landvetter Airport 25 km (16 mi) southeast of the city center. The smaller Göteborg City Airport, 15 km (9.3 mi) from the city center, was closed to regular airline traffic in 2015. The city hosts the Gothia Cup, the world's largest youth football tournament, and the Göteborg Basketball Festival, Europe's largest youth basketball tournament, alongside some of the largest annual events in Scandinavia. The Gothenburg Film Festival, held in January since 1979, is the leading Scandinavian film festival, with over 155,000 visitors each year. In summer, a wide variety of music festivals are held in the city, including the popular Way Out West Festival. During 2020, Gothenburg's population increased by 3,775 inhabitants.

The Bourse (Swedish: Börsen) is a municipal building in Gothenburg, western Sweden. It is located on the north side of Gustaf Adolf Square. Originally it was designed as a mercantile exchange, with a ballroom, by architect Pehr Johan Ekman in the Neoclassical style. It opened on 1 December 1849. The Gothenburg City Council has conducted its meetings here since 5 January 1863. The Swedish term for this building, Börsen (derived from the French "La bourse"), is frequently mis-translated into English as "The Stock Exchange". However, the building was never primarily a stock exchange, but rather a commercial exchange or mercantile exchange (see Exchange (organized market)), in the same spirit as a modern commodities exchange. Although the Gothenburg exchange had no royal patronage, it fulfilled a similar function to the contemporaneous royal exchanges of, for example, Dublin, Edinburgh and London.

Gustaf Adolfs torg ("Gustaf Adolf's square") is a town square located in central Gothenburg, Sweden. It was named Stortorget (the Big Square) until 1854 when a statue of the founding father of Gothenburg, king Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden was raised. Surrounding the square are the city hall, including the law court extension (by Gunnar Asplund), the bourse, and the main harbour canal of Gothenburg.

The Götatunneln (Göta Tunnel) is a road tunnel between Järntorget and Lilla Bommen in central Gothenburg, Sweden. It is 1,600 metres (5,200 ft) long.Construction began 2000 and it was opened for traffic June 2006. The tunnel is separated in two tubes, each carrying three lanes of traffic. The cost including road connection was 3 billion SEK. The tunnel has made it possible for the city of Gothenburg to build new apartments and restaurants just by the waterfront of the southern shore of Göta älv, which was cut off by the E45 road before.

Bältespännarparken (Swedish: [ˈbɛ̂ltɛˌspɛnːarpaɾkɛn], unofficially known as The Belt Bucklers Park) is the informal name for a section of Kungsparken in central Gothenburg, Sweden. It is located directly across from the Stora Teatern at the intersection of Kungsportsavenyen and the main entrance to the Garden Society of Gothenburg.

The Nils Ericson Terminal is a major bus terminus in Gothenburg, Sweden. It is placed in the city center just next to Gothenburg Central Station (Centralstationen), and across the street from the main Nordstan shopping center. The main street and most hotels are within walking distance from the terminal. The terminal serves many parts of the Västra Götaland County with bus traffic (although many regional destinations are primarily served by regional trains). Bus companies such as Flixbus, Bus4You, Nettbuss express, Swebus Express and Eurolines serve destinations such as Oslo, Stockholm and Copenhagen. With bus changes, a lot of destinations can be reached. The bus terminal uses the modern system where buses arrive at gates, and the passengers enter the buses directly from the air-conditioned terminal, much like in modern airports. There are 18 gates indoors (numbered 21-38). There are also 11 gates outdoors with simple shelters (39-49). The terminal is named after Nils Ericson, a Swedish inventor and mechanical engineer, and brother to John Ericsson. The terminal was designed by the Norwegian architect, Nils Torp, and received the national Kasper Salin Prize in 1996.

The Gothenburg City Hall (Swedish: Göteborgs rådhus) is located in Gothenburg, Sweden. It was designed in the Beaux-Arts style and was used primarily as a law court until 2010.The older building was built circa 1670. The architect was Nicodemus Tessin the Elder. The newer part was finished in 1936 after the design and supervision by architect Gunnar Asplund.

Kungsportsplatsen is a square in the city centre of Gothenburg, Sweden. The square was constructed in 1852 and got its name after the King's Gate (the name literally means, King's Gate Place). The gate was the main entrance to the fortified city, which was and still is surrounded by a moat. When the city grew outside the moat and there was no need to defend the city any longer the gate was torn down. At Kungsportsplatsen there is a statue of King Charles IX, which was placed there in 1936.

Gothenburg Central Station (Swedish: Göteborgs centralstation, Göteborg C) is the main railway station of Gothenburg and it is the oldest railway station in Sweden still in use. The station serves 27 million passengers per year, making it the second largest railway station in Sweden after Stockholm Central Station which it predates by 13 years. The station opened on October 4, 1858. The station is situated in the city of Gothenburg, right by Drottningtorget. The Gothenburg Central Station, Centralhuset and Nils Ericson Terminalen are a part of Resecentrum, Göteborg. Gothenburg Central Station is owned and administered by Jernhusen.

The Avalon Hotel is a hotel at Kungsportsplatsen in Gothenburg, Sweden. It was nominated for the Kasper Salin Prize in 2007. It is part of Design Hotels AG.
