Alief Elsik High School is a high school in the Alief region of Houston, Texas, United States. Elsik is divided into two campuses: the main campus (12601 High Star in Houston, zip code 77072), and the Alief Elsik Ninth Grade Center (located at 6767 South Dairy Ashford, city of Houston, 77072), which serves ninth graders. Both campuses, which are in the Alief Independent School District, serve grades 9 through 12. The ninth grade campus is located in the International District although the main high school building is outside of it.The school's mascot is a ram, and the school's basketball and football teams are well known throughout Texas, as is the speech and debate team. The school is considered to have the best speech and debate team in all of Houston, placing in the top ten qualifiers in the state of Texas as well as sweepstakes winners in the NFL state tournament. The academic teams at Alief Elsik - Academic Decathlon, Star Academic Challenge, and various UIL organizations - participate in regional, state, and national competitions.Alief Hastings High School sits adjacent to Elsik, and is considered to be its brother school. The two schools enjoy a friendly rivalry that heats up each year in the final football game when they play each other in a shared football stadium. Alief's three traditional high schools, Elsik, Hastings, and the more recent Alief Taylor High School, now follow a seven period schedule. On Monday through Friday there are 50 minute classes, with an hour-and-thirty-minute lunch period (5th period). Wednesdays have 40 minutes of class time, which is used to give teachers a meeting day after school. This has been in effect since the 2007-2008 school year began. Currently, Elsik has a night school, much like its fellow Alief high schools. AP and Honors classes are graded on a 5.0 grading scale, while all other classes are graded on a 4.0 scale. Dual credit programs for US History are offered for juniors, and English, Sociology, Government, and Economics are also offered to seniors. In 2019, Elsik received a C grade from the Texas Education Agency.

The Texas Buddhist Association (TBA, traditional Chinese: 德州佛教會; simplified Chinese: 德州佛教会; pinyin: Dézhōu Fójiào Huì) is a non-profit nondenominational religious organization committed to providing religious ceremonies and educational programs and serving the community. Not distinguishing between different sects of Buddhism, TBA places an emphasis on spreading the right views of the Dharma. The mission statement is to adopt and practice Buddha's teachings of loving kindness, compassion, joyfulness, and serenity in our daily lives for the benefit of ourselves and others; and to cultivate the wisdom necessary for clear understanding of both the universe and the human spirit. With multiple monastics and a large lay congregation, TBA is now one of the largest Buddhist associations in the United States, with its 515-acre American Bodhi Center in Waller County, Texas one of the largest by area Buddhist facilities in the country, comparable with the nearby 500 acre Chung Tai International Retreat Center Texas Pagoda Chan Monastery in Shepherd, Texas, the 400 acre Deer Park Monastery in Escondido, California, and the 700 acres of the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas in Ukiah, California.

Royal Oaks Country Club is a country club and subdivision in Houston, Texas, United States, in the Alief community. The country club is located at 2910 Royal Oaks Club Drive, 8 miles (13 km) west of The Galleria. Sunrise Colony Company developed Royal Oaks out of the former Andrau Airpark property. The country club portion was the first country club built in the Houston City limits in fifty years.

Little Saigon, also popularly known as Vietnamtown or simply Viet-Town, is a neighborhood in Houston, Texas centered on Bellaire Boulevard west of Chinatown. It is one of the largest Vietnamese enclaves in the United States. It is located within the International Management District. Because the neighborhood is adjacent to Chinatown, there is a misconception that it is a continuation of Chinatown. Little Saigon is, however, its own distinctive neighborhood. The portion of Bellaire Blvd was officially designated as Saigon Blvd by the City of Houston, and its intersecting streets were also designated Vietnamese names. In the City of Houston in 2016, there was a plan to officially designate the area as its own district. This was, however, rejected by the residents of the overall Alief area. The Vietnamese-American AM radio station, Radio Saigon Houston, is transmitted in the neighborhood.

Alief Early College High School (AECHS) is a magnet high school in Houston, Texas and a part of the Alief Independent School District, in conjunction with Houston Community College. It was scheduled to open in fall 2009, and 120 spaces were to be available for ninth grade students.The permanent campus was scheduled to open around fall 2010, with a temporary facility used for the school's first year.It allows students to take courses for dual credit and graduate with both a high school diploma and the equivalence of an associate degree at the same time. As part of the curriculum each student would take up to sixty credits at HCC during his/her high school career.

The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Houston (Indonesian: Konsulat Jendral Republik Indonesia di Houston) is Indonesia's diplomatic facility in Houston, Texas, United States. The building is located at 10900 Richmond Avenue in the Westchase district. The facility serves the U.S. states of Arkansas, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas. In addition, the Houston consulate serves Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The consulate includes an exhibit of Indonesian culture. As of 2004, Houston had the fifth largest Indonesian population in the United States; this helps sustain the consulate.

The Briarwood School is a private Kindergarten through 12th grade school located in far western Houston, Texas, United States. Briarwood admits children with diagnosed learning difficulties and exhibited learning differences, which may include attention deficit disorder, hyperactivity, and pervasive developmental disorders. Each year, about 300 students enroll at Briarwood. Of the students, Eighty percent have average to high intelligence and are placed in classes to meet their academic needs. The children are either in the Lower School (grades Kindergarten through 6) or the Middle/Upper School (grades 7 through 12). Twenty percent of the students at Briarwood are developmentally delayed and enrolled in the Tuttle (Special) School.

Westchase is a business district and neighborhood in western Houston, Texas, bounded by Westheimer Road on the north, Gessner Road on the east, Houston Center Boulevard on the west, and Westpark Tollway on the south. The area is bisected by Beltway 8. Westchase is adjacent to Greater Sharpstown, the International District (which includes part of Chinatown), and the Royal Oaks Country Club subdivision. The area is immediately northeast of Alief. A large portion of Westchase is covered by a special district, the Westchase Management District, which was created by the Texas Legislature in 1995. This entity, funded by a tax increment on businesses within its boundaries, provides branding, urban planning, and public safety functions for its constituents.More than 1,500 businesses reside in Westchase; several are associated with the petroleum industry, for which Houston is considered a major capital. Major employers that have offices in Westchase include ABB Group, BMC Software, Chevron, Phillips 66, Dow Chemical, Petrochina, and Jacobs Engineering. The Westchase management district is approximately 4.32 square miles (11.2 km2) in size, with 16.3 million square feet (1,510,000 m2) of office space contained in 118 buildings.In 2006 Westchase was described by John Nova Lomax of the Houston Press as suburban in nature, with a high concentration of chain stores along its major arterial roads.

River Oaks Academy is a private school at 10600 Richmond Avenue in the Westchase district of Houston, Texas, United States. The school covers grades Kindergarten through 12.

Howellville or Howell is an unincorporated community in Harris County, Texas, United States, which has been absorbed by Greater Houston. The site is located at the intersection of Alief Clodine Road and Sugar Land Howell Road on the west side of Houston, approximately halfway between the original settlements of Clodine and Alief. There are no road signs identifying the place. The community began as a stop on a railroad line that no longer exists.

Alief Taylor High School is a public high school in the Alief Independent School District. It is located in an unincorporated area in the Alief community of Harris County, near Houston. Opened in 2001, Alief Taylor is the newest high school in the district. It is named after Edward "Doc" Taylor, who taught AP American History at Alief Hastings High School. According to the Texas Education Agency, Taylor covers grades 9-12 and has 500 or more students in each grade level. When it opened in the fall of 2001, it had only freshmen and sophomores. During the 2002–2003 school year the 11th grade was added. Taylor added its first 12th grade class during the 2003–2004 school year. Alief Taylor is one of two schools in Alief ISD that does not include a Ninth Grade Center, a separate building for ninth grade students. The other is Kerr High School. Alief Taylor was originally referred to as "High School No. 4."It is located in the International District.In 2019, Taylor received a C grade from the Texas Education Agency.
