Alief Elsik High School is a high school in the Alief region of Houston, Texas, United States. Elsik is divided into two campuses: the main campus (12601 High Star in Houston, zip code 77072), and the Alief Elsik Ninth Grade Center (located at 6767 South Dairy Ashford, city of Houston, 77072), which serves ninth graders. Both campuses, which are in the Alief Independent School District, serve grades 9 through 12. The ninth grade campus is located in the International District although the main high school building is outside of it.The school's mascot is a ram, and the school's basketball and football teams are well known throughout Texas, as is the speech and debate team. The school is considered to have the best speech and debate team in all of Houston, placing in the top ten qualifiers in the state of Texas as well as sweepstakes winners in the NFL state tournament. The academic teams at Alief Elsik - Academic Decathlon, Star Academic Challenge, and various UIL organizations - participate in regional, state, and national competitions.Alief Hastings High School sits adjacent to Elsik, and is considered to be its brother school. The two schools enjoy a friendly rivalry that heats up each year in the final football game when they play each other in a shared football stadium. Alief's three traditional high schools, Elsik, Hastings, and the more recent Alief Taylor High School, now follow a seven period schedule. On Monday through Friday there are 50 minute classes, with an hour-and-thirty-minute lunch period (5th period). Wednesdays have 40 minutes of class time, which is used to give teachers a meeting day after school. This has been in effect since the 2007-2008 school year began. Currently, Elsik has a night school, much like its fellow Alief high schools. AP and Honors classes are graded on a 5.0 grading scale, while all other classes are graded on a 4.0 scale. Dual credit programs for US History are offered for juniors, and English, Sociology, Government, and Economics are also offered to seniors. In 2019, Elsik received a C grade from the Texas Education Agency.

Alief ( AY-leef) is a working-class suburb in Southwest Harris County, Texas, United States. Most of Alief is within the city limits of Houston, while a portion of the community is in unincorporated Harris County.First settled in 1894 as a rural farm community, Alief experienced rapid population growth in the 1970s and 1980s. The community became one of the most ethnically diverse areas in Houston.

Alief Taylor High School is a public high school in the Alief Independent School District. It is located in an unincorporated area in the Alief community of Harris County, near Houston. Opened in 2001, Alief Taylor is the newest high school in the district. It is named after Edward "Doc" Taylor, who taught AP American History at Alief Hastings High School. According to the Texas Education Agency, Taylor covers grades 9-12 and has 500 or more students in each grade level. When it opened in the fall of 2001, it had only freshmen and sophomores. During the 2002–2003 school year the 11th grade was added. Taylor added its first 12th grade class during the 2003–2004 school year. Alief Taylor is one of two schools in Alief ISD that does not include a Ninth Grade Center, a separate building for ninth grade students. The other is Kerr High School. Alief Taylor was originally referred to as "High School No. 4."It is located in the International District.In 2019, Taylor received a C grade from the Texas Education Agency.

Howellville or Howell is an unincorporated community in Harris County, Texas, United States, which has been absorbed by Greater Houston. The site is located at the intersection of Alief Clodine Road and Sugar Land Howell Road on the west side of Houston, approximately halfway between the original settlements of Clodine and Alief. There are no road signs identifying the place. The community began as a stop on a railroad line that no longer exists.

Alief Kerr High School is an Alief ISD public school located in the Alief community, and in the limited purpose city limits of Houston, Texas, United States. The school is a part of the Alief Independent School District and serves grades 9 through 12. Kerr High School was awarded the Blue Ribbon School Award of Excellence by the United States Department of Education, the highest award an American school can receive, during the 2010–11 school year. The school also received the award in 2016, one of only 26 Texas schools to receive the award. The school also received the award in 2022. It is located in the International District.

The Sugar Land Quan Âm is a cast concrete statue in Chùa Việt Nam (English: Vietnamese Buddhist Center) in Sugar Land, Texas, just outside of Houston. The sculpture depicts the bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara in female form standing on a lotus pedestal. She may also be commonly known by her Chinese name Guanyin. It was created by sculptor Mai Chi Kim, who wanted to work on a bigger project after the temple had commissioned several smaller statues from her. With the base included, the statue stands at 72 feet tall, making it one of the tallest statues in the United States, and looks over a large pond beside an ornate red bridge. It held the claim to being the largest Buddhist statue in the Western Hemisphere, until 2021 when Brazil completed construction of the second tallest Buddha statue in the world. It is the sixth tallest statue in the United States as of 2021. Quan Am is one of the most highly revered bodhisattvas in Vietnam and is called by many epithets, including 'Mother of Buddhas' and 'Goddess of Compassion'.

Royal Oaks Country Club is a country club and subdivision in Houston, Texas, United States, in the Alief community. The country club is located at 2910 Royal Oaks Club Drive, 8 miles (13 km) west of The Galleria. Sunrise Colony Company developed Royal Oaks out of the former Andrau Airpark property. The country club portion was the first country club built in the Houston City limits in fifty years.

Little Saigon, also popularly known as Vietnamtown or simply Viet-Town, is a neighborhood in Houston, Texas centered on Bellaire Boulevard west of Chinatown. It is one of the largest Vietnamese enclaves in the United States. It is located within the International Management District. Because the neighborhood is adjacent to Chinatown, there is a misconception that it is a continuation of Chinatown. Little Saigon is, however, its own distinctive neighborhood. The portion of Bellaire Blvd was officially designated as Saigon Blvd by the City of Houston, and its intersecting streets were also designated Vietnamese names. In the City of Houston in 2016, there was a plan to officially designate the area as its own district. This was, however, rejected by the residents of the overall Alief area. The Vietnamese-American AM radio station, Radio Saigon Houston, is transmitted in the neighborhood.

Townewest is an unincorporated area in Fort Bend County, Texas, United States. As Town West, it is a former census-designated place, active as of the 1990 U.S. Census. By the 2000 U.S. Census, it was no longer listed.It was developed by the company U.S. Homes circa 1979. It includes a clubhouse.

Alief Early College High School (AECHS) is a magnet high school in Houston, Texas and a part of the Alief Independent School District, in conjunction with Houston Community College. It was scheduled to open in fall 2009, and 120 spaces were to be available for ninth grade students.The permanent campus was scheduled to open around fall 2010, with a temporary facility used for the school's first year.It allows students to take courses for dual credit and graduate with both a high school diploma and the equivalence of an associate degree at the same time. As part of the curriculum each student would take up to sixty credits at HCC during his/her high school career.
