Lillö Ruin is the ruin of a medieval castle, located in Kristianstad municipality, Scania, Sweden. Not much is known of the earliest history of Lillö ("Little island"). A fortress was built there, probably as early as the late 13th century. The fortress was gradually improved to become more of a castle, Lillöhus. In the war of 1657 - 1658 Denmark lost the province of Scania to Sweden and Lillöhus was demolished. It has remained a ruin ever since. The fields and wetlands surrounding the ruin are rich in bird life.

Kristianstad University is an associate member of the European University Association. It also participates in the Erasmus Programme. Kristianstad Municipality (Kristianstads kommun) is a municipality in Skåne County in southernmost Sweden. Its seat is located in the city Kristianstad. The present municipality was created in three steps during the last nationwide local government reform, and it has the largest area of the municipalities of Skåne County. In 1967 a number of rural municipalities were merged into the City of Kristianstad. In 1971 more former units were added and the city became a unitary municipality. Finally in 1974, the last amalgamations took place, and the municipality reached its present size. The number of original entities (as of 1863) is 35.

Vä Church (Swedish: Vä kyrka), sometimes also called Saint Mary's Church in Vä (Mariakyrkan i Vä) is a well-preserved Romanesque church in Vä, in the southern Swedish province of Scania. It belongs to the Church of Sweden and is a listed building. It was built in the early 12th century, at a time when Scania was part of Denmark. The building was commissioned by a member of the Danish royal family, probably Queen Margaret Fredkulla. The church originally consisted of a nave, a chancel with an apse and two western towers. Quite soon after being finished, it was donated to Premonstratensian monks who used it as the church of their monastery until 1213. It simultaneously functioned as the parish church of Vä. At the end of the Middle Ages, a third tower was built, and in 1593 the building was enlarged. At the beginning of the 19th century, the western towers were demolished. A major restoration was carried out in the 1960s. The church is one of the oldest stone churches in Sweden and shows several similarities with Lund Cathedral, built at approximately the same time. Although some of the original stone sculptures have been destroyed, some have been preserved. For example, the western portal still displays its original sculptured capitals. The interior also contains some of the oldest church murals in Sweden. These decorate the chancel and the apse. In the chancel, the barrel vault ceiling is decorated with figures carrying speech scrolls of the Christian hymn Te Deum, a subject matter not found elsewhere among medieval murals in Sweden. The apse is dominated by a mural depicting Christ in Majesty.

Trinity Church (Swedish: Heliga trefaldighetskyrkan) is a church building in Kristianstad, Sweden, built between 1617 and 1628 by Christian IV of Denmark. He had founded the city of Kristianstad in 1614 at a time when Scania was part of the Kingdom of Denmark. The church's large size and style reveal the king's ambitions for his new city.

On 10 January 2022, a stabbing occurred at NTI Gymnasiet, Kristianstad, Sweden when 16-year-old then-student Laaiti Ekenstéen, armed himself with four knives, stabbed and injured two people before disarming himself and calling the school’s SOS Alarm. He then sat down and calmly waited for the police to arrive and was then arrested only 7 minutes after the attack began. The arrest was uneventful and Ekenstéen remained cooperative throughout the entire investigation.
