Trinity Church (Swedish: Heliga trefaldighetskyrkan) is a church building in Kristianstad, Sweden, built between 1617 and 1628 by Christian IV of Denmark. He had founded the city of Kristianstad in 1614 at a time when Scania was part of the Kingdom of Denmark. The church's large size and style reveal the king's ambitions for his new city.

The siege of Christianstad (Danish: Belejringen af Christianstad, Swedish: Belägringen av Kristianstad), also known as the Capture of Christianstad (Danish: Overtagelsen af Christianstad, Swedish: övertagandet av Kristianstad), was a siege conducted by Christian V of Denmark on the Swedish-held city of Christianstad (Kristianstad) from 10 to 15 August 1676 during the Scanian War. The besieged Swedes would eventually surrender, and Christianstad would be occupied until 1678.

Kristianstad Municipality (Kristianstads kommun) is a municipality in Skåne County in southernmost Sweden. Its seat is located in the city Kristianstad. The present municipality was created in three steps during the last nationwide local government reform, and it has the largest area of the municipalities of Skåne County. In 1967 a number of rural municipalities were merged into the City of Kristianstad. In 1971 more former units were added and the city became a unitary municipality. Finally in 1974, the last amalgamations took place, and the municipality reached its present size. The number of original entities (as of 1863) is 35.

Söderportgymnasiet, an upper secondary school, was opened in 1875 in order to accommodate the increasing number of students in Kristianstad. The school was built on a site previously occupied by the southern gate of the city walls, hence the current name Söderportgymnasiet. In 1878 the school was named Högre allmänna läroverket, and in 1968 renamed Söderportskolan in connection with a nationwide reform. In 2002 the school received its current name to better illustrate the level of education conducted there (Swedish gymnasium = upper secondary school). In the beginning of the 20th century the school had some 300 students. In 1907 two girls graduated from the school, albeit as external candidates, and in 1923 it became fully co-educational. Today the school has 1100 students, of which about 50 are in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, which started there in 2000. On the other side of the old city core lies a primary school named Norreportskolan since it is located right next to the other, the northern, city fortification gate.

However, higher education in the region is much older. Teacher education can be traced back to 1835. A training course for nursing was started in 1893. Technical education was established in 1912. Despite the young age of the institution of Business Administration the BSc programme in business administration is ranked top 3 in the country by the Swedish Council of Higher Education since 2012 (ranked 1st 2012 and 2017). A master thesis done in Stockholm School of Economics ranks Kristianstad's programme as #2 behind the first mentioned. In 1995, Kristianstad University moved into the present main campus. The college has 12 000 students in various fields of study., Programmes and courses are offered in teaching, behavioural, social, natural and health sciences, business administration and engineering. Kristianstad University is an associate member of the European University Association. It also participates in the Erasmus Programme. Lillö Ruin is the ruin of a medieval castle, located in Kristianstad municipality, Scania, Sweden. Not much is known of the earliest history of Lillö ("Little island"). A fortress was built there, probably as early as the late 13th century. The fortress was gradually improved to become more of a castle, Lillöhus. In the war of 1657 - 1658 Denmark lost the province of Scania to Sweden and Lillöhus was demolished. It has remained a ruin ever since. The fields and wetlands surrounding the ruin are rich in bird life.
