East Ryde, New South Wales

Wallumatta Nature Reserve, also called the Macquarie Hospital Bushland, is a 6-hectare (15-acre) nature reserve bushland area, surrounded by the residential suburb of East Ryde, in suburban Sydney, Australia. Once part of the Field of Mars of 1804, the reserve is the largest surviving area of Sydney Turpentine-Ironbark Forest, an endangered ecosystem. Soils are based on Ashfield Shale and Hawkesbury Sandstone. The word "Wallumatta" is derived from the Eora language for the former local aboriginal inhabitants, meaning snapper (a local fish). The forest canopy is primarily made up of turpentine, grey ironbark, red mahogany and Sydney red gum. The tree, grey box is found here, though usually associated with the drier western areas of Sydney. The blueberry ash is also present, a common plant of the wetter more fertile areas of eastern New South Wales. Native animals recorded include brushtail possum, grey-headed flying fox, blue-tongue lizard and red-bellied black snake. Feral foxes, domestic dogs and cats threaten the indigenous wildlife.Wallumatta Nature reserve is treated as a "demonstration site", and much bush regeneration work has been carried out to remove weeds and encourage indigenous species. The nature reserve, titled Macquarie Hospital Bushland, was listed on the (now defunct) Register of the National Estate on 15 May 1990.

The Municipality of Hunter's Hill is a local government area on the Lower North Shore of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The municipality was first proclaimed in 1861, which includes the suburbs of Hunters Hill, Woolwich, Huntleys Point, Tarban, Henley and part of Gladesville. As at the 2016 census, the Municipality had an estimated population of 13,199. At 5.7 square kilometres (2.2 sq mi), the Municipality is, by area, the smallest local government area in New South Wales and its boundaries remain mostly unaltered since its proclamation in 1861. A 2015 review of local government boundaries by the NSW Government Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal recommended that the Municipality of Hunter's Hill merge with adjoining councils. The government proposed a merger of the Hunter's Hill, Lane Cove and Ryde Councils to form a new council with an area of 57 square kilometres (22 sq mi) and support a population of approximately 164,000. In July 2017, the Berejiklian government decided to abandon the forced merger of the Hunter's Hill, Lane Cove and Ryde local government areas along with several other proposed forced mergers.The Mayor of Hunters Hill since 4 December 2021 is Clr. Zac Miles.

The Field of Mars Reserve is a protected nature reserve located on the northern suburbs of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The 50 Hectare (123.5 acres) reserve is a remnant of bushland situated between the Lane Cove and Parramatta rivers within the suburb of East Ryde and near Gladesville, Hunters Hill and Ryde.

Arndell School is a specialised school funded by the NSW Department of Education and Training for students with emotional and behavioural difficulties. It works in partnership with the Coral Tree Family Services and is located in the Macquarie Hospital grounds in North Ryde. Staff from Arndell School and Coral Tree Family Service work collaboratively, with families and home schools to address the social, educational and behavioural needs of individual students. The school provides educational programs with an emphasis on literacy and numeracy for a maximum of 35 students aged from 4.5 to 12 years (K to Y6). Five classes operate at the school.

Lane Cove West is a suburb on the Lower North Shore of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Lane Cove West is located 9 kilometres north-west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the Municipality of Lane Cove. Lane Cove and Lane Cove North are separate suburbs.

The Sydney Turpentine-Ironbark Forest (STIF) is wet sclerophyll forest community of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, that is typically found in the Inner West and Northern region of Sydney. It is also among the three of these plant communities which have been classified as Endangered, under the New South Wales government's Threatened Species Conservation Act 1995, with only around 0.5% of its original pre-settlement range remaining.As of 26 August 2005, the Australian Government reclassified Sydney Turpentine-Ironbark Forest as a "Critically Endangered Ecological Community", under the Commonwealth's Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. The original extent of the forest was 26,516 ha, but now only 1,182 ha (or 4.5% of original extent) remains. It is a transitional biome between Cumberland Plain Woodland in the drier areas and Blue Gum High Forest on neighboring higher rainfall ridges.

North Ryde railway station is located on the Metro North West Line, serving the Sydney suburb of North Ryde, New South Wales, Australia. Formerly part of the Sydney Trains T1 Northern Line, the station started operating under the Sydney Metro network from May 2019.

The Gladesville Drill Hall is a heritage-listed former drill hall and now residence located at 144 Ryde Road, Gladesville, Sydney, Australia. It was designed by NSW Government Architect's Office and built during 1900 by Mr Neely of Chatswood. It is also known as Drill Hall and Army Reserve Depot. The property is privately owned.

2RRR is a community radio station based in Ryde in Sydney. It is licensed to cover part of the Lower North Shore suburbs including Ryde, Hunters Hill, Gladesville and Eastwood. 2RRR aims to provide a broadcast facility that encourages community participation and gives a voice to people who are not represented by the mainstream media.

The Boronia Park, or the Boronia Park Reserve, is a waterfront parkland and nature reserve wholly within the suburb of Hunters Hill, in the Municipality of Hunter's Hill, New South Wales, Australia. The park dates back to pre-colonial New South Wales, with original and widely diverse flora and fauna: ...Boronia Park is the best place to gain an idea of Hunter's Hill's pre-European landscape, as it has the largest intact stretch of bushland. Its sandstone slopes carry characteristic open-forest of Eucalyptus piperita, Eucalyptus gummifera and Angophora costata, with a great variety of understorey shrubs and small trees. Towards the top of the slope is an area of Kunzea ambigua shrubland, while Blackbutt, Eucalyptus pilularia grow on the more sheltered aspects, and a small creek tumbles down a steep waterfall to form a pool beside Grey Mangroves along the river's edge...the Turpentine-Ironbark forest's only remnant in Hunters Hill today is a small stand of Syncarpia glomulifera, with some understorey shrubs, near the entrance to Boronia Park...

Ryde Secondary College is a government-funded co-educational dual modality partially academically selective and comprehensive secondary day school, located in Ryde, a suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Established in 1965 as Malvina High School, Ryde Secondary College caters for approximately 1,000 students from Year 7 to Year 12. It is one of the few schools in New South Wales which takes enrolments for selective students, mainstream students as well as those who need special education (support unit students).

The Australian Astronomical Observatory (AAO), formerly the Anglo-Australian Observatory, was an optical and near-infrared astronomy observatory with its headquarters in North Ryde in suburban Sydney, Australia. Originally funded jointly by the United Kingdom and Australian governments, it was managed wholly by Australia's Department of Industry, Innovation, Science, Research and Tertiary Education. The AAO operated the 3.9-metre Anglo-Australian Telescope (AAT) and 1.2-metre UK Schmidt Telescope (UKST) at Siding Spring Observatory, located near the town of Coonabarabran, Australia. In addition to operating the two telescopes, AAO staff carried out astronomical research, and designed and built astronomical instrumentation for the AAT, UKST, and other telescopes including the European Southern Observatory (ESO)'s Very Large Telescope in Chile, and the Japanese Subaru Telescope on Mauna Kea in Hawaii. UK involvement in the AAO ceased in June 2010, with the change of name and management arrangements effective from 1 July 2010.
