Thiruvananthapuram District (IPA: [t̪iɾuʋɐnɐn̪d̪ɐpuɾɐm] (listen)), is the southernmost district in the Indian state of Kerala. The district was created in 1949, with its headquarters in the city of Thiruvananthapuram, which is also Kerala's administrative centre. The present district was created in 1956 by separating the four southernmost Taluks of the erstwhile district to form Kanyakumari district. The city of Thiruvananthapuram is also known as the Information technology capital of the State, since it is home to the first and largest IT park in India, Technopark, established in 1990. The district is home to more than 9% of total population of the state.The district covers an area of 2,192 square kilometres (541,655 acres). At the 2011 census, it had a population of 3,301,427, making it the second most populous district in Kerala after Malappuram district. Its population density is the highest in Kerala, with 1,509 inhabitants per square kilometre (3,910/sq mi). The district is divided into six subdistricts: Thiruvananthapuram, Chirayinkeezhu, Neyyattinkara, Nedumangadu, Varkala, and Kattakada. The urban bodies in the district are the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, and the Varkala, Neyyattinkara, Attingal, and Nedumangad municipalities.Thiruvananthapuram district is located between 8.17°N 76.41°E / 8.17; 76.41 and 8.54°N 77.17°E / 8.54; 77.17. At the southernmost extremity of the district, Kaliyikkavila is 54 kilometres (34 mi) from Kanyakumari, the southernmost point on the Indian peninsula. 33.75% of the population lives in urban areas.The district has three major rivers, several freshwater lakes, and over 300 ponds. Its eastern region is forested, northern regions are mostly under rubber cultivation and the remaining areas grow mixed dry-land crops of coconut, plantain, and tapioca, among others. Built-up areas and rice fields complete the land use pattern.

The Shree Padmanabhaswamy Temple is a Hindu temple located in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of the state of Kerala, India. The name of the city of 'Thiruvananthapuram' in Malayalam and Tamil translates to "The City of Lord Ananta" (Ananta being a form of Vishnu). The temple is built in an intricate fusion of the Chera style and the Dravidian style of architecture, featuring high walls, and a 16th-century gopura. While as per some traditions the Ananthapura temple in Kumbla in Kasaragod district in Kerala is considered as the original spiritual seat of the deity ("Moolasthanam"), architecturally to some extent, the temple is a replica of the Adikesava Perumal temple in Thiruvattar in Kanyakumari district in Tamil Nadu.The principal deity is Padmanabhaswamy (Vishnu), who is enshrined in the "Anantha Shayana" posture, the eternal yogic sleep on the infinite serpent Adi Shesha. Padmanabhaswamy is the tutelary deity of the Travancore royal family. The titular Maharaja of Travancore, Moolam Thirunal Rama Varma, is the current trustee of the temple.

The Pazhavangadi Maha Ganapathy temple (Malayalam: ശ്രീ പഴവങ്ങാടി മഹാ ഗണപതി ക്ഷേത്രം) is situated at East Fort in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram City, Kerala, India. The main Deity of the temple is Sri Mahaganapathy (Ganesha). The main idol is installed in a seated posture with the right leg in a folded stance. The temple is situated in close proximity to the Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple. Other Deities worshiped at the temple include Dharmasasta, Goddess Durga and Nagaraja. The temple sculptures include 32 different forms of Lord Ganesha.

Sreevaraham Lakshmi Varaha Temple, locally known as Sreevaraham Temple, is a Hindu temple in Sreevaraham, Thiruvananthapuram, near to the Padmanabhaswamy Temple. The principal deity of the temple is Varaha, the third avatar of the god Vishnu. The temple is administered by the Travancore Devaswom Board.

The Mithrananthapuram Trimurti Temple is a Hindu temple complex in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. It is a temple in where devotees get to offer worship to all the three Trimurti deities, namely, (Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva). The Temple is located on the western side of Padmanabhaswamy temple in Thiruvananthapuram.

The Kizhakke Kotta, commonly known as East Fort, is a busy commercial street located at the heart of the central business district of Thiruvananthapuram city the capital of Kerala. East Fort is known as the heart of the city as it is located in the center. Since Trivandrum was known as Travancore, East Fort was a commercial suburb with the presence of the Padmanabhaswamy Temple since 1900. East Fort also stands up as the second largest shopping area after the posh shopping area of Pulimoodu (MG Road).

Government Central High School or Attakulangara Central School was founded in 1889. It is located in Trivandrum, the capital of Kerala province in India. The school's curriculum is in the Malayalam and Tamil languages. As of 2019, the school had just 100 students and was in a dilapidated state, with planned renovations halted amidst reports of disagreements over payments and construction details.In 2020, the government began housing 223 homeless people on the school's campus. They have been active since, clearing and grubbing the grounds and cultivating vegetables.

Palm Leaf Manuscript Museum, Thiruvananthapuram is museum dedicated to preserve and exhibit palm-leaf manuscripts from Kerala. It is considered as world's first and largest palm-leaf manuscript museum. The museum houses a rare collection of over one crore palm leaves held by the Kerala State Department of Archaeology, containing administrative records dating back to the Venad period and past political and social information from Travancore, Cochin and Malabar regions. The museum contains palm leaf manuscripts from 1249 to 1896.

Pazhaya Sreekanteswaram Temple or Old Sreekanteswaram Temple, located at Puthenchantha in Thiruvananthapuram, is one of the ancient Shiva temples in Kerala. According to the renowned historian Elamkulam Kunjan Pillai, this temple existed even in the 9th century AD. This temple is the original abode of the Lord of new Sreekanteswaram Mahadeva Temple. The new temple is situated just outside the "North Fort" in Thiruvananthapuram. As noted by Dr. M. G. Sasibhooshan, the old temple was on the route taken by the King of Travancore and his retinue in connection with the Pallivetta of the Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple.
