Théâtre Saint-Denis is a theatre located on Saint Denis Street in Montreal, Quebec, in the city's Quartier Latin. A movie theatre built in 1915 by Anglin-Norcross Ltd., the Théâtre Saint-Denis' mission changed in the 1980s and has since focused exclusively on performing arts. It hosts musicals, plays, music concerts and numerous stand-up comedy shows during the Just for Laughs festival. The theatre contains two halls, Théâtre St-Denis 1 and Théâtre St-Denis 2. Théâtre St-Denis 1 has 2,218 seats (1,328 on the floor, and 890 on the balcony) and Théâtre St-Denis 2 has 933 seats (665 on the floor, and 268 on the balcony). On May 10, 2016, the borough of Ville Marie announced that the theatre would be renovated with a new facade that will expose more of historic theatre design.

Saint Denis Street (officially in French: Rue Saint-Denis) is a major north–south thoroughfare in Montreal, Quebec. It extends from the Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel on Saint Paul Street in Old Montreal to the bank of the Rivière des Prairies at the north end of the island. It is designated Route 335 from Sherbrooke Street to the Metropolitan Expressway, and is known as Bonsecours Street south of Saint Antoine Street. Along its length, it passes through the boroughs of Ville-Marie, Le Plateau-Mont-Royal, Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie, Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension, and Ahuntsic-Cartierville. Saint-Denis serves as one of the primary thoroughfares of both the Latin Quarter, where it plays host to a number of bars and restaurants, to the Plateau Mont-Royal, where it is known as one of the best places to view Montreal's distinct style of architecture. It becomes primarily a residential street north of the Metropolitan Expressway. The eastern portion of the Montreal Metro's Orange Line runs parallel to the street, two blocks to the east. It is named for Saint Denis of Paris.

The Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (lit. 'National Library and Archives of Quebec') or BAnQ is a Quebec government agency which manages the province's legal deposit system, national archives, and national library. Located at the Grande Bibliothèque in Montreal, the BAnQ was created by the merging of the Bibliothèque nationale du Québec and the Archives nationales du Québec in 2006. The Bibliothèque nationale du Québec had previously merged with the Grande Bibliothèque du Québec in 2002.

Saint-Jacques Cathedral (Cathédrale Saint-Jacques) was the Roman Catholic cathedral in Montreal from 1825 to 1852, named for St. James the Greater. From 1825 to 1836, it was the seat of the auxiliary bishop of Quebec in Montreal. With the creation of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Montreal in 1836, it became the cathedral of the new diocese.

The Grande Bibliothèque is a public library in Downtown Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Its collection is part of Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ), Quebec's national library. Membership in the library is free to all residents of Quebec. With some 10,000 users per day and a record of 3 million users in 2009—double the projected figure of 1.5 million. In 2011, it attracted 2.7 million visitors, and was the most frequented public library in both North America and the Francophonie.

Berri–UQAM station is a Montreal Metro station in the borough of Ville-Marie, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is operated by the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) and is the system's central station. This station is served by the Green, Orange, and Yellow lines. It is located in the Quartier Latin. Berri–UQAM is the 2nd deepest station in the network, and the only one to have 3 lines servicing it. Berri–UQAM is also the busiest station in the network, transfers not included. If transfers were included, the 13 million passengers number would rise to about 35-40 million a year.

The Saint-Sulpice Library is an historic building located at 1700 Saint Denis Street in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It was designated a Historic Monument of Quebec in 1988.At the dawn of the 20th century, the political elite and religious leaders of Montreal recognized the need for creating a new francophone library that would elevate the education level of the population. The selection of books offered by the Cabinet de lecture paroissiale, previously created by the Sulpicians, was becoming obsolete and outdated for the time according to critics. The Sulpicians initiated the construction of a new library on Saint-Denis Street to offer Montrealers better readings combining part of their own collections with the ones owned by Université Laval à Montréal (Université de Montréal). The Saint-Sulpice Library was intended primarily for students, scholars and academics but also for Catholics seeking self-education. Designed by architect Eugène Payette, the Saint-Sulpice Library is considered one of the finest examples of Beaux-Arts architecture in the province. Built between 1912 and 1914, the building opened as a private library operated by the Society of Saint-Sulpice in 1917. It was notably the first French-language library in the nation of Canada. While the library was built by Eugene Payette, the Sulpicians hired a professional librarian Aegidius Fauteux, for conserving and developing a collection dedicated for research. From its opening in 1915 to its closure in 1931, Fauteux assumed his role by transforming the nature of the collection by acquiring titles that would support the educational mission of the library. To get ready for the opening, he acquired tens of thousands of works between 1913 and 1916. He also developed the special collections by including maps, portraits, medals, ex-libris and rare books. Not only the library offered a variety of books and periodicals but cultural activities and a centre dedicated to pictorial arts under the supervision of Olivier Maurault, priest of Saint-Sulpice. In 1931, Fauteux left the Bibliothèque Saint-Sulpice to become the director of the Public Library of Montreal and founded the first French library school in Canada. In the 1960s the library folded due to waning membership. Its large collection was donated to the newly formed Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec in 1967 and the Ministry of Culture and Communications (Quebec) purchased the building. In 2005 the Université du Québec à Montréal bought the building, but was forced to sell it back to the ministry of culture due to financial reasons in 2007. In 2008 plans were announced to turn the building into a music centre that will house Le Vivier, a group of 22 Quebec music groups. Le Vivier presented its first season of 15 concerts from September 2009 to May 2010. In 2016, it was announced the building will be used as a new technology incubator and library for teens.

The Université du Québec à Montréal (English: University of Quebec in Montreal) also known as (UQÀM) is a French-language public university based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is the largest constituent element of the Université du Québec system. UQAM was founded on April 9, 1969, by the government of Quebec, through the merger of the École des beaux-arts de Montréal, a fine arts school; the Collège Sainte-Marie, a classical college; and a number of smaller schools. Although part of the UQ network, UQAM possesses a relative independence which allows it to print its own diplomas and choose its rector. In the fall of 2018, the university welcomed some 40,738 students, including 3,859 international students from 95 countries, in a total of 310 distinct programs of study, managed by six faculties (Arts, Education, Communication, Political Science and Law, Science and Social science) and one school (Management). It offers Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral degrees. It is one of Montreal's two French-language universities, along with the Université de Montréal, and only 1% of its student population is of English-speaking origin.

Habitations Jeanne-Mance is a low-income project in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is located in the borough of Ville-Marie and is bordered by Ontario Street to the north, De Boisbriand Street to the south, Saint Dominique Street to the west and Sanguinet Street to the east. Built after the passage of the National Housing Act of 1954, Habitations Jeanne-Mance was the first public housing project built in Quebec and second housing project in Canada after Regent Park in Toronto. With the demolition of Regent Park in 2005, Habitations Jeanne-Mance is now the oldest postwar public housing project in Canada. The complex occupies an area of 7.7 hectares (19 acres), and counts 788 housing units. There are five high-rise buildings for senior citizens, fourteen 3-storey multiplexes for families, and nine townhouses for families. The average rent for a three bedroom apartment is $960 monthly. The complex is home to over 1,700 residents representing seventy countries. The average household income is C$56,000 per year.

A 1999 bronze sculpture of French Canadian social worker and Roman Catholic religious sister Émilie Gamelin (French: Monument à Émilie Gamelin) by Raoul Hunter is installed in the Saint Catherine Street exit of Montreal's Berri-UQAM station, in Quebec, Canada.

Les Foufounes Électriques is a club and concert venue located at 87 Saint Catherine Street East in the city of Montreal, Quebec, Canada in a neighbourhood known as the Quartier Latin (Latin Quarter). It is a multi-level establishment with two concert spaces and a dance floor. The club opened in 1983 and became a centre for underground music, underground art, and culture in Montreal.Known as "Foufs" by the locals, the club is the oldest alternative rock venue in the city.

Place Émilie-Gamelin (known informally as Berri Square, French: Square Berri) is a city square in central Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It was created to mark the 350th anniversary of the city. Bordered by Berri Street, Saint Hubert Street, Sainte Catherine Street, and De Maisonneuve Boulevard, the square is adjacent to the entrances of transportation hubs Berri-UQAM Metro Station and the former Station centrale d'autobus, as well as the Université du Québec à Montréal and the Grande Bibliothèque du Québec. For years Place Émilie-Gamelin and the surrounding area held a bad reputation for drug sales and homelessness, something the city has tried to progressively change.
