Jones Inlet

Point Lookout is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) located in the town of Hempstead in Nassau County, New York, United States. The population was 1,527 at the time of the 2020 census. The town is mostly made up of residential homes, with several small businesses on Lido Boulevard. The town is surrounded on three sides by water. Today, Point Lookout has become a popular location for summer residences. Among its inhabitants, it is commonly referred to as "PLO".

Short Beach is the beach on the northern shore of the western end of Jones Beach Island. The beach faces South Oyster Bay instead of the Atlantic Ocean, thereby providing some shelter from storm waves. Since 1851 it has been the home of a coastal lifesaving station operated (at first) by the United States Life-Saving Service and later by the United States Coast Guard. The current facility, Station Short Beach, typically does around 500 search and rescue missions each year —one of the busiest units in the Coast Guard's 1st District. The Jones Beach State Park's West End Boat Basin is also on Short Beach. The Jones Beach West End barracks of the New York State Park Police is around 200 feet south of the Short Beach shoreline. An uninhabited islet, Short Beach Island, is usually just offshore, but occasionally connects to the beach when low tide exposes sandbars to the surface.

The Long Beach City School District is a public school district that provides education to The City of Long Beach, Island Park, Barnum Island, Harbor Isle, Lido Beach, Point Lookout and East Atlantic Beach on the South Shore of Long Island, New York. It currently houses a total of 3,583 students in all grades.The school board is composed of five elected members. Currently, the board members are: Dennis Ryan, Ph.D. (President), Maureen Vrona, Esq. (Vice President), Anne Conway, Sam Pinto, and Tina Posterli. Although it identifies publicly as Long Beach Public Schools, it is actually not a 'public school district'—a legal term in New York—but an 'extended city school district', meaning it has a great deal more autonomy and flexibility than a regular school district.

The Bethpage Air Show is an annual American air show held each May on Memorial Day weekend. It is staged in the airspace above and off the coast of the Jones Beach State Park in Wantagh, New York, located on Long Island.The air show is typically headlined by either the United States Navy Blue Angels or United States Air Force Thunderbirds. Due to cuts to the military budget, neither team appeared at the 2013 show, but the Blue Angels appeared at the 2014 show. All branches of the military are represented at the show. The 2020 was cancelled, due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.

It was created concomitant with the 1990 United States Census from the southernmost portions of the neighboring hamlet of Baldwin. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 8,102.

The school has a 30-acre (12 ha) campus.As of the 2014-15 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,324 students and 109.4 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.1:1. There were 302 students (22.8% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 40 (3.0% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

WGBB (1240 AM) is a radio station licensed to Freeport, New York and serving Nassau County, New York. Founded in 1924, it is Long Island's oldest radio station.WGBB broadcasts the Chinese–language "Chinese Radio Network" and various English and Spanish language religious and ethnic brokered programming. The studio is located in Merrick, New York and its transmitter site is located in Freeport, former location of the studio.
