Battle of Mercredesburne

Netherfield is a village in the civil parish of Battle, in the Rother district, in the county of East Sussex, England.In the 1870-1872 Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales, Netherfield was described as a hamlet and chapelry with a population of 500.The Church of St John the Baptist was built in 1860 and is grade II* listed. Its architect was Samuel Sanders Teulon. The village has a primary school, and there are two pubs in the village. Several buildings are grade II listed including the school and the former rectory. Netherfield ward is represented by two of the thirteen members of Battle Town Council, the lowest tier of local government.

Penhurst is a village and civil parish, sharing a parish council with neighbouring Ashburnham, in the Rother district of East Sussex, England. It is located on the Weald, 4 miles (7km) west of Battle. The parish touches Ashburnham, Battle, Brightling and Catsfield. Penhurst shares a parish council with Ashburnham. The parish has few residents, according to the 2001 census Penhurst has just 52 inhabitants.

River Line SSSI is a 2.2-hectare (5.4-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest south of Robertsbridge in East Sussex. It is a Geological Conservation Review site.This site exposes a sequence of sections in the Purbeck Beds, which date to the Upper Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous periods. The sections throw light on the environment of the period and some are marine, with fossil ostracods and crustaceans.

Normanhurst Court was a large manor house in the village of Catsfield in East Sussex.

Darwell Wood is a 37.5-hectare (93-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest north-west of Battle in East Sussex.

Ashburnham Park is a 109.9-hectare (272-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest north-west of Hastings in East Sussex. It is a Nature Conservation Review site, Grade 2. The park is the garden of Ashburnham Place and it is listed on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest.This former medieval deer park has many ancient trees which support more than 160 species of lichens. The habitats are parkland and woodland together with three ornamental lakes. The woods have a diverse selection of breeding bird species.

Ashburnham Place is an English country house, now used as a Christian conference and prayer centre, five miles west of Battle, East Sussex. It was one of the finest houses in the southeast of England in its heyday, but much of the structure was demolished in 1959, and only a drastically reduced part of the building now remains standing.

Catsfield is a village and civil parish in the Rother district of East Sussex, England. It is located six miles (9.7 km) north of Bexhill, and three miles (5 km) southwest of Battle. The village was first documented in the Domesday Book of 1086 where it was recorded "there is a little church serving the hall". It is one of the oldest settlements in the area, with Romano British period archaeological remains. The village once consisted of two manors: Catsfield and Catsfield Levett. Thomas Lyvet (Levett) held the lordship of the manor of Catsfield in 1445 but forfeited it, along with the lordship of Firle, for his debts. But the manor of Catsfield Levett remained in the Levett family for centuries, and in the seventeenth century a Levett heiress carried it into the Eversfield family. (Richard Lyvet of Firle was lord of the manor of Catsfield in 1431.) With a fortune built on ancestral landholdings and later on iron making, the Levetts held land across Sussex. The parish church is dedicated to St Laurence.Catsfield is located in the Sussex Weald within the designated landscape the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Darwell Reservoir lies to the west of Mountfield, East Sussex, England. The reservoir provides water for Southern Water customers. The reservoir covers around 156 acres (63.4 hectares) and is just over a mile long. Work began on its construction in about 1937 and it was completed in 1949. It was officially opened by the Duke of Norfolk on 23 October the following year. When it was filled, 9 cottages, including Birchford Cottages, Darwell Furnace Farm and cottages associated with it, were lost under the water. A pipeway was laid in the 1980s takes water to Beauport Park to supply Hastings. The Darwell Reservoir is surrounded by ancient woodland, including the Darwell Wood a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Which is a broadleaved woodland of 92.9 acres (37.6 hectares), which is dissected by streams draining into the reservoir from the north. Cranbrook and District Angling Club has the sole fishing rights at the reservoir.

Claverham Community College is a comprehensive secondary school/community college in Battle, East Sussex, England. It has sports facilities such as a climbing wall, Community Sports Hall, gym, dance studio, fitness suite, and playing fields. Claverham Community College is a mixed comprehensive school for pupils aged 11–16 and a Community College. It has approximately 1150 pupils and about 2500 associates of the College who attend adult evening classes or are members of affiliated societies.The Community College was established in 1973 and was developed from the former Battle County Secondary School built in 1955. In school terms the College became fully comprehensive in 1976.

Brightling is a village and civil parish in the Rother district of East Sussex, England. It is located on the Weald eight miles (13 km) north-west of Battle and four miles (6 km) west of Robertsbridge. The village lies in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and due to its vantage point commands views in all directions. The village pub used to be The Green Man on the corner opposite the church, dedicated to St. Thomas Becket, but it is said that as part of the arrangements to build 'The Pyramid' Jack Fuller caused the pub to be relocated about three miles (5 km) towards Robertsbridge at Oxley's Green. The parish includes outlying hamlets Cackle Street, Hollingrove, Oxley's Green and Twelve Oaks. Brightling, Hollingrove and Cackle Street all had their own shop with a post office in Brightling itself. These have all closed with the passing of time. Also in the parish is Brightling Down (197 m), the local vantage point topped by 'The Needle' and used as a beacon point hence Brightling Beacon. The most obvious 'industry' in the area is agriculture yet well hidden is the Gypsum mine with conveyor to the Mountfield plaster board processing plant. There is an annual horse trials run at Brightling Park (formerly Rose Hill).

Ninfield is a village and civil parish in the Wealden District of East Sussex, England. The village is quite linear and centred 4 miles (6.4 km) north of Bexhill-on-Sea where two roads cross: the A269 from Bexhill to Battle and the A271 to Hailsham. The parish covers 2,500 acres (1,010 ha); approximately the northern half of which is in the High Weald AONB. To the west of the village is Standard Hill, said to be the place that William the Conqueror placed his flag (2 lions of Normandy standard) before the Battle of Hastings. As with many other Wealden villages, it was involved in the iron industry: that fact is commemorated by the presence in the village of a set of iron stocks. Smuggling was also rife in the eighteenth century. The village name is said to come from the fact that it was originally composed of nine and three quarter fields. A legal record, of 1452, mentioning a Sussex village as "Nempnefeld", may refer to Ninfield.
