Park Hill is a neighborhood in Louisville, Kentucky, United States, located just west of Old Louisville. Its boundaries are the CSX railroad tracks to the east, Hill Street to the south, Twenty-sixth street to the west, and Virginia Avenue and Oak Street to the north. In the 19th century, the southwestern farmland portion of the neighborhood was known as the Cabbage Patch, the citizens of which inspired Alice Hegan Rice's 1901 children's novel Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch.

Parkland Evangelical Church, also known as Greater Good Hope Baptist Church, is a historic church at 1102 S. 26th Street in Louisville, Kentucky. It was built in 1915 and added to the National Register in 1983.According to its Kentucky Historic Resources Inventory evaluation, "The church is an excellent example of a Shingle style treatment with Gothic Revival motifs."

Albert S. Brandeis Elementary School is a former elementary school in Louisville, Kentucky that began operation in 1913. It is listed as a historic building with the National Register of Historic Places. It was patterned after the Charlton House in England. It was designed by J. Earl Henry, the renowned early 20th century Louisville architect. The historic building is located at 1001 South 26th Street. The school itself operates at 2817 W. Kentucky St. in a modern facility. It became a math/science/technology magnet school in fall 1990. It was Louisville's first magnet program in an elementary school.

Algonquin is a neighborhood in Louisville, Kentucky, United States. Its boundaries are Hill street to the north, Cypress Street to the west, CSX tracks to the east, and Bernheim Lane and Algonquin Parkway to the south. It was established in the 1920s and is primarily a residential neighborhood, named for nearby Algonquin Park. Samuel D. Jones Park is located on Thirteenth and Bashear streets.

California is a neighborhood in urban Louisville, Kentucky, United States. It is bounded on the north by Broadway, on the east by Ninth Street, on the south by Oak Street, and on the west by Twenty-Sixth Street. There are no written records of the beginning of the neighborhood, but the area was settled by German immigrants around 1849. It is said that the subdivision, initially called Henderson, came to be known as California because it was the "far west" of Louisville. African Americans settled the area after the Civil War, starting the California Colored School and a branch of the Freedmen's Bureau. The early population was mixed between whites and blacks, but white families began to leave around 1900. The neighborhood lost 50% of its population and 40% of its single-family housing from 1950 to 1980 and became known for its urban decay. California has been the subject of urban renewal efforts, including those by the Brown-Forman Corporation, whose headquarters and warehouse is located in the neighborhood. A commercial neighborhood arose at 18th Street (Dixie Highway) and Oak. Both Madden Hardware and the Oak Theater were on the east side of 18th.

Heaven Hill Distilleries, Inc. is a private, American family-owned and operated distillery founded in 1935 and headquartered in Bardstown, Kentucky, that produces and markets the Heaven Hill brand of Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey and a variety of other distilled spirits.Its current distillery facility, called the Heaven Hill Bernheim distillery, is in Louisville, Kentucky. It is the seventh-largest alcohol supplier in the United States, the second-largest holder of bourbon whiskey inventory in the world, the largest, independent, family-owned and operated producer and marketer of distilled spirits in the United States, and the only large family-owned distillery company headquartered in Kentucky (not counting Brown-Forman Corporation, which is publicly traded but more than two-thirds family-controlled, or Sazerac Company, which is family-owned but headquartered in Louisiana).

On February 13, 1981, a series of explosions destroyed more than 13 miles (21 km) of sewer lines and streets in the center of Louisville in Kentucky, United States. The explosions resulted in extensive damage to property and infrastructure; there were no fatalities, but four people were injured.The blasts were caused by the ignition of hexane vapors which had been illegally discharged from a soybean processing plant owned by Ralston-Purina and located on Floyd Street. The plant had been a processing facility for cottonseed or soybeans since at least 1900.Repairs to the sewers and streets took about two years. Ralston-Purina paid $18 million to the Louisville Metropolitan Sewer District, about $9 million to about 17,000 plaintiffs in a lawsuit settled in 1984, $4 million to the city, and $2 million to affected members of the public that did not sue the company. The company admitted that it had released hexane into the sewers, but initially did not accept responsibility for the blasts and continued to deny negligence for years until eventually pleading guilty to four counts of violating federal environmental laws and paying the maximum possible fine, $62,500.

Hallmark is a small, primarily residential neighborhood in western Louisville, Kentucky, United States founded in 1965. Its boundaries are Cane Run Road to the west, Algonquin Parkway to the north, and Cypress street to the east. The origins of its name are not known. The area sits along Algonquin Park east to west near the border of Louisville and Shively. There are few distinctions that separate Hallmark from the surrounding areas of Park Duvalle or Shively. One of the most prominent churches in the area was the Canaan Missionary Baptist Church once located in the Hallmark area from 1984 to 1998, drawing most of the people around Hallmark and areas in the west end to the church on Sundays. The church moved to Hikes Point at the former Southeast Christian Church where they currently worship and is presently one of the largest African-American Baptist churches in Kentucky. The church is now home to the Hill Street Baptist Church at the old Dixie Highway site.

The Universal Car Company, at 2500 W. Broadway in the California neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky, was built in 1923. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.It is a two-story brick building. Also known as the Universal Chevrolet Company Building, it was one of Louisville's first dedicated new car sales showrooms.

The Seagram's Distillery (also known as the Calvert Distillery) is a historic building complex in Louisville, Kentucky, on Seventh Street Road. It was originally constructed between 1933 and 1936 for the production of bourbon whiskey by Distillers Corporation Limited, who acquired Joseph E. Seagram & Sons (later renamed to The Seagram Company Ltd.) in 1928. The Seagram company has since ceased operation, and its assets were acquired by other companies, notably The Coca-Cola Company, Diageo, and Pernod Ricard.

Park DuValle is a neighborhood southwest of downtown Louisville, Kentucky. It was developed starting in the late-19th century and historically been a predominantly African-American community. Its boundaries are I-264 (the Shawnee Expressway) to the west, the Norfolk Southern Railway tracks to the north, Cypress Street to the east, and Bells Lane and Algonquin Parkway to the south. The neighborhood reflects the presence of several nearby parks, and DuValle Junior High School; all named after Lucie DuValle, the first female principal of a high school in Louisville.
