Dhobitalao (धोबीतलाव, "Washerman's Lake") is a neighborhood in the city of Mumbai (formerly Bombay) in India. Located in the South Mumbai area at an elevation of 11 m (31 ft), it used to be a location where linen was washed. In British times, dhobis used to wash the British soldiers clothes' here. It was filled up in the mid-17th century as the city began to expand. The lake used to be fed by a number of underground freshwater springs, which were recently uncovered while constructing the subway in the locality. A public library stands over the land that was the lake. Just off the current site, is the famous Metro Adlabs (formerly Metro Cinema). The north-eastern part of Dhobitalao is called Cavel, from the Koli name Kolwar. The Kolis of this village were converted to Christianity by the Portuguese in the 16th century. Cavel became a Christian enclave, and later immigrants of this religion, from Goa, Daman, Bassein and Salsette settled here.

St. Xavier's College (Marathi: सेंट झेवियर्स महाविद्यालय) is a private, Catholic, autonomous higher education institution run by the Bombay Province of the Society of Jesus in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It was founded by the Jesuits on January 2, 1869. The college is affiliated with the University of Mumbai offering undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Arts, Science, Commerce and Management. Xavier's was the first college to be granted autonomy by the University of Mumbai in 2010. In 2006, St. Xavier's was awarded the 'A+' grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).The college is named after Francis Xavier, the 16th-century Spanish Jesuit saint. Its campus in South Mumbai is built in the Indo-Gothic style of architecture, and recognized as a heritage structure. Founded by German Jesuits in 1869, Xavier's developed rapidly from 1884 to 1914. The imprisonment of German Jesuit priests during the First World War (1914–1918) led to a dislocation of the administration, which was mitigated by the appointment of other European Jesuits. While it began as an arts college, by the 1920s science departments were established. The college was greatly expanded in the 1930s. The college is now run by Indian Jesuits, with a distinct focus on affirmative action for minority students. It offers undergraduate and post-graduate courses in Arts, Science, Business, Commerce or Public Policy. It has spawned several research institutions within its campus including the Blatter Herbarium, and is known for its inter-collegiate youth festival 'Malhar'.

Gokuldas Tejpal Hospital is a government of Maharashtra run free hospital in South Mumbai, India. It was built in 1875 thanks to the beneficence of Gokuldas Tejpal, a renowned Hindu businessman and philanthropist of Mumbai. Rustomjee Jamsetjee Jeejeebhoy offered £15,000 for the construction of a native hospital in 1865 if the government would put in £10,000. A financial crisis however led to Rustomjee being unable to follow it. Arthur Crawford helped obtain the £15,000 from Gokuldas Tejpal and getting the government to build it. The building work began on 10 May 1870 and was completed on 8 April 1874. The original building was designed in early English Gothic style by Colonel Fuller. It used blue basalt facings with arches of Kurla stone, was paved with Minton's tiles and roofing with Taylor's patent tiles. Columns made of Kurla stone with caps of Porebunder stone. The current Gokuldas Tejpal Hospital has its old and new buildings. A new hospital was being built to be privatised but the project ran into problems due to land ownership issues and is currently being contested with the building works being completely shut down.

Azad Maidan (formerly known as Bombay Gymkhana Maidan) is a triangular-shaped maidan (sports ground) in the city of Mumbai, India. It is located on 25 acres (10 ha) of land near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus station. It is a regular venue for inter-school cricket matches. The name Azad means "liberty" in Persian. The ground is known for its cricket pitches, for protest meetings, and for political rallies. The Bombay Gymkhana clubhouse was built in 1875, at the southern end of the maidan.

Chandanwadi is a neighbourhood in Mumbai donated by the Hon. Jugonnath Sunkersett, one of the founding fathers of the city. It is the area around Marine Lines most famous for the Chandanwadi electric crematorium which opened in 1954.Chandanwadi also consisted of B.I.T Blocks which consisted of 6 buildings, demolished in 2016. These buildings were more than 150 years old build during the British Era

Sir J. J. Institute of Applied Art is an Indian applied art institution based in Mumbai. It is a state government college that was started through its sister school, the Sir J. J. School of Art. The "Sir J. J." in the name stands for Sir Jamsetjee Jeejebhoy, a Parsi philanthropist, whose name is linked to numerous historical institutions of Mumbai, such as the Sir J. J. Hospital. The institute is well known for its legacy on Indian design and advertising, as well as its historic campus. In 1958, Sir J. J. School of Art was divided, with the Departments of Architecture and Applied Art becoming the Sir J. J. College of Architecture and Sir J. J. Institute of Applied Art respectively.

Dava Bazaar (also spelled Dawa Bazaar and Dava Bazar) is an area in South Mumbai famous for medical and scientific instruments, and lab chemicals. It is located near Lohar Chawl, Crawford Market and opens into Princess Street. Dava in Hindi means medicine. The word Aushadhi Khana has generic usage as pharmaceutical trade markets in various parts of India.

Cavel is a neighbourhood in South Mumbai. It is located to the northeast of Dhobitalao near the Chira Bazaar area. It got its name from the Koli word Kolwar. The Kolis of this village were converted to Christianity by the Portuguese in the 16th century. Cavel thus became a Christian enclave, and later immigrants of this religion, from Goa, Daman, Bassein and Salsette settled here. Two Portuguese churches are built here, Nossa Senhora de Saude, built-in 1794, presently known as Our Lady of Health, Cavel and Nossa Senhora d'Esperance. In later centuries, when the Christian population moved north, Gujarati and Marwari traders moved into Cavel.

Marine Lines is a locality in South Mumbai. The name Marine Lines is derived from the Marine Battalion Lines, a military establishment built by the British in the 19th century. The battalion was later converted to an air force residential quarters, and now lies just south of Metro Adlabs. It is also the name of a railway station on the Mumbai suburban railway on the Western Railway railway line. Marine Lines was also the name of the road on which Bombay Hospital and Liberty Cinema stand. It is now known as V Thackersey Marg. Marine Drive is the famous promenade near the station. Marine Drive has one of the finest Art Deco Residential Buildings facing the sea. Built in 1951, it is India's oldest aquarium and is named after Parsi entrepreneur DB Taraporewala, who provided funds for its development. Marine Drive is one of the greatest sites to see the monsoon in Mumbai if you're travelling during the rainy season. Near the station there is a Muslim cemetery and a municipal crematorium; Chandanwadi. Adjoining the station is the famous Marine Drive flyover; the only link to Marine Drive over the tracks from Princess Street beginning to end. Marine Drive/Marine lines is also known as the Queen's Necklace because the street lights resemble a string of pearls in a necklace when viewed at night from an elevation location anywhere along the drive. Signage makes UNESCO tag visible at Marine DriveNew Marine Lines is the area just south of the station near Churchgate. It is home to a number of offices including the UTI, R.O.C. (Registrar of Companies), Customs (Marine and Preventive Wing), Income Tax office and various other Governmental agencies.
