Oldenzaal railway station

The siege of Oldenzaal took place in the Spanish held town of Oldenzaal in the Twente region from July 23 to August 1, 1626 during the Eighty Years' War and the Anglo–Spanish War. After an eight-day siege led by Ernest Casimir the city surrendered.

The siege of Oldenzaal was a short siege that took place during the Eighty Years' War and the Anglo–Spanish War by a Dutch and English army led by Maurice of Orange of the city of Oldenzaal from 20 to 23 October 1597. The city surrendered to the overwhelming Dutch and English force. The siege was part of Maurice's campaign of 1597 known as the Ten Glory Years, his highly successful offensive against the Spaniards.

The Basilica of St Plechelmus (Dutch: Sint-Plechelmusbasiliek) is a Catholic church in the Dutch town of Oldenzaal dedicated to the 8th-century Irish monk Plechelm, whose festival on 15 July has been on the calendar of the medieval diocese of Utrecht ever since his canonisation in the 10th century. This festival is still celebrated annually at the basilica, and the saint's 1050th anniversary was celebrated there in 2004.

During the carnival season Oldenzaal is known as "Boeskool-stad" which is a local dialect of the word Cabbage-town. During the main carnival weekend over 100,000 people come for the big parade showing high and mighty carnival trucks.

Rossum is a village in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is a part of the municipality of Dinkelland, and lies about 4 km north of Oldenzaal on the road to Ootmarsum. It was first mentioned in the late-10th century as Rohthem, and means "settlement near cleared forest". In 1840, it was home to 504 people.The Hunenborg is a circular rampart to the north of Rossum. In 1916, remnants of wooden buildings were discovered at the site. Later a wooden dam dating from the 1150s was uncovered, and may be the location of a 10th century fortress of the Prince-Bishop of Utrecht.In the rural environment some farms can be found in the traditional building style of the timber framed Low German house.

Lemselo is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is a part of the municipality of Dinkelland, and lies about 3 km northwest of Oldenzaal. Lemselo is not a statistical entity, and the postal authorities have placed it under Weerselo. It was first mentioned in the late-10th century as Lamesloe, and means "forest of Lam (person)". Despite its size, it is not marked with place name signs. In 1840, it was home to 402 people. Nowadays, it contains about 180 houses.

Twente Airport (IATA: ENS, ICAO: EHTW) is located 2 NM (3.7 km; 2.3 mi) outside of Enschede in Overijssel, Netherlands. It has one runway (05/23), though two of the current taxiways and platforms have been used as runways (Platform A, former runway 11/29 and Platform C, former runway 16/34). The airport is currently uncontrolled and closed for scheduled passenger flights and military operations. A local flying club uses the airport for their activities. The airfield has also been approved for limited use by business charter operators and aircraft scrapping, storage and maintenance.

De Lutte is connected to Germany (to the east) and Oldenzaal and Hengelo (to the west) by the A1 motorway. The Landhuishotel Bloemenbeek with its Michelin-starred restaurant De Bloemenbeek is located in the village.The Losser (De Lutte) Roman Catholic Churchyard contains the graves of five Second World War soldiers who served with the Royal Air Force. Three of the deceased soldiers served with the United Kingdom while the remaining two served with Australia. The graves are for sergeant Sydney Hennan, sergeant William Leonard Wykes, flight sergeant Conrad George Johnston, sergeant John Fisher Morgan and flight sergeant John Kevin Thompson.A river closeby is the Dinkel. The rural landscape around the village has some good examples of farms and barns in the style of the Low German house with timber framing and wooden gables.

Volthe is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is a part of the municipality of Dinkelland, and lies about 6 km north of Oldenzaal. Volthe is not a statistical entity, and the postal authorities have placed it under Rossum. It was first mentioned in the late-10th century as Uuluht. The etymology is unclear. In 1840, it was home to 542. Nowadays, it consists of about 200 houses.It is a rural area with spread out farms and houses, some of them in the timber framed style of the traditional Low German house. A fortified house, het Everlo, serves as a starting point for walks to the nearby nature reserve Roderveld.

Losser (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈlɔsər] ) is a municipality and a town in the eastern Netherlands. It is at the eastern end of the A1 motorway.
