Brookwood Farm

The Old Barn is a historic barn off Blue Hill River Road in Canton, Massachusetts. Based on the construction methods used, it is estimated to have been built between 1690 and 1720, and is the oldest building on Brookwood Farm. It is currently undergoing a major restoration undertaken by the North Bennet Street School. They have removed the oldest 20-by-20-foot (6.1 m × 6.1 m) section for major work to repair rot and insect damage. It is expected to be returned to the site in 2010 or 2011. All of the photographs here are of the portions of the barn built after the original barn. The barn was added to the National Register of Historic Places as Old Barn on September 25, 1980.

"GBH" stands for Great Blue Hill, the site of WGBH's FM transmitter in Milton, Massachusetts, as well as the original location of WGBH-TV's transmitter. Great Blue Hill has an elevation of 635 feet (193 m), is located within the Blue Hills Reservation, and is the highest natural point in the Boston area. Mai Cramer, longtime host of the program Blues After Hours, jokingly maintained that the station's call sign stands for: "We Got Blues Here!"According to Nielsen data aggregated by Ken Mills, a Minneapolis broadcast consultant, as of June 2017 the number of WGBH's listeners has nearly doubled since 2012, increasing from 235,200 to 445,200. WGBH is the 10th-most-popular NPR news station in the United States.

WZRM (97.7 FM, Rumba 97.7) is a Spanish-language radio station in the Boston, Massachusetts, market, carrying a Spanish contemporary hits format. Owned and operated by iHeartMedia, it serves the Metro Boston and South Shore areas of Massachusetts, and is licensed to Brockton. The station's studios are located in Medford and the transmitter site is atop Great Blue Hill.

The Blue Hill Meteorological Observatory in Milton, Massachusetts is the foremost structure associated with the history of weather observations in the United States. Located atop Great Blue Hill about 10 miles south of Boston, Massachusetts, it is home to the oldest continuous weather record in North America, and was the location of the earliest kite soundings of the atmosphere in North America in the 1890s, as well as the development of the radiosonde in the 1930s.Founded by Abbott Lawrence Rotch in 1884, the observatory took a leading role in the newly emerging science of meteorology and was the scene of many of the first scientific measurements of upper atmosphere weather conditions, using kites to carry weather instruments aloft. Knowledge of wind velocities, air temperature and relative humidity at various levels came into use as vital elements in weather prediction due to techniques developed at this site. By 1895 the observatory was the source of weather forecasts of remarkable accuracy. On August 4, 1894 the first atmospheric sounding in the world was accomplished at the observatory, with a weather kite carrying a thermograph 2,030 feet above sea level. On October 8, 1896, a record of 8740 feet (2,665 m) was achieved for a weather kite. During the Great New England Hurricane of 1938, the observatory measured the strongest wind gust ever directly measured and recorded in a hurricane at 186 mph (299 km/h).The observatory remains active to this day, continuing to add to its database of weather observations now more than one hundred years old, and stands as a monument to the science of meteorology in the United States.

The Eliot Memorial Bridge is a footbridge which was built in 1904 in memory of Charles Eliot, landscape architect to the Metropolitan Park Commission. It is located on the Skyline Trail near the summit of Great Blue Hill in the Blue Hills Reservation, south of Boston, Massachusetts. Eliot was a driving force in the establishment of many of the Greater Boston area's early parks, including the Blue Hill Reservation. The bridge was built out of locally quarried granite, and completed c. 1905–06. Built into its structure are a bench and commemorative plaque. The bridge, which crosses a small ravine, is a remarkably large and sturdy structure for the location. The bridge is in neighborhood to the Great Blue Hill Observation Tower, near the 635-foot (194 m) summit of Great Blue Hill, a few hundred yards from and a little below the Great Blue Hill Weather Observatory, which is at the top of the mountain. The view from the observation tower toward the Observatory and its forest of radio, TV, and microwave antennas, is obscured by trees. The bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Great Blue Hill is a hill of 635 feet (194 m) located within the Blue Hills Reservation in Milton, Randolph and Canton, Massachusetts, about 10 miles (16 km) south of downtown Boston. It is the highest point in Norfolk County and the Greater Boston area. The modern name for the hill was given by early English colonists who, while sailing along the coastline, noticed the bluish hue of the exposed granite faces when viewed from a distance (due to Riebeckite). The Blue Hills' eastern slopes face the ocean and lie within Quincy. The area once attracted quarrying for its "blue granite".Great Blue Hill was a point of reference for the Indians, and the local tribe were known as the "people at the large hill" (Massachuseuck). The English called them the Massachusetts, which ultimately became the name of the state.

The Eleanor Cabot Bradley Estate is a nonprofit country house and garden ground museum in Canton, Massachusetts. It is operated by The Trustees of Reservations. The grounds are open every day, sunrise to sunset, without charge.

The Refreshment Pavilion is a historic refreshment stand at Houghton's Pond in the Milton portion of Blue Hills Reservation, a Massachusetts state park. Built in 1920, it is one of a series of architect-designed structures built in the park by the Metropolitan District Commission. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

The Comfort Station is a historic "sanitary" on Blue Hill Avenue in Milton, Massachusetts. It is located in the Blue Hills Reservation, managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation. Although finely detailed by Stickney & Austin in Swiss Chalet style, this is a very simple building, built in 1904 for a single purpose which it still performs today. It is approximately 35x22 feet (10x7m), divided approximately half and half between men's and women's toilets which sit on a terrazzo floor about five feet (1.5m) above grade. Two handicapped accessible toilets were added on the east (back) side during an extensive refurbishing in 2008. It is well preserved, with most exterior parts either original or carefully matched to the original. It was originally adjacent to a trolley rest stop, but the trolley and the restaurant pavilion are long gone. It now serves visitors to the Department of Conservation and Recreation's Trailside Museum and people climbing Great Blue Hill, at whose base it sits. The Trailside Museum is owned by DCR and operated by the Massachusetts Audubon Society through a 5-year permit agreement.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 25, 1980.

The Redman Farm House is a historic house in Canton, Massachusetts. It is a 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame structure, five bays wide, with a side-gable roof, end chimneys, and clapboard siding. The house was built in 1795, and is one Canton's few surviving 18th-century houses. It stands on land that was deeded to Robert Redman in 1722 by the local Native Americans.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, where it is incorrectly listed as being at the corner of Washington St. and Homans Lane.

Blue Hills Reservation is a 7,000-acre (2,800 ha) state park in Norfolk County, Massachusetts in the United States. Managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, it covers parts of Milton, Quincy, Braintree, Canton, Randolph, and Dedham. Located approximately ten miles south of downtown Boston, the reservation is one of the largest parcels of undeveloped conservation land within the Greater Boston metropolitan area. The park's varied terrain and scenic views make it a popular destination for hikers from the Boston area.
