Long Meadow (Winchester, Virginia)

Rose Hill Farm is a historic home and farm located near Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia. It is a vernacular Federal style, 2+1⁄2-story brick and stucco structure built about 1819. The earliest section was built about 1797, and began as a three-room-plan, 1+1⁄2-story, log structure built upon a limestone foundation. About 1850, the house was enhanced with vernacular Greek Revival-style elements. Also on the property are a contributing summer kitchen (c. 1862), cistern (date unknown), corn crib (date unknown), and barn (c.1850–1860).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

Fort Colvin, also known as Covill's Fort and Colvin House, is a historic home located near Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia. It was built about 1750, and is a 1 1/2-story, stone and frame building with a metal gable roof and interior chimney. It measures 24 feet by 34 feet and is nearly centrally positioned over a spring. Also on the property are a contributing site of a small domestic outbuilding and the ruins of a small footbridge. Fort Colvin is believed to have been built by some of the first European settlers in the first multi-ethnic community west of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia. It is thought to have been used as a settler's fort by Joseph Colvill in 1755.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.

Opequon is an unincorporated community along Opequon Creek in Frederick County, Virginia. Opequon is located on Cedar Creek Grade (VA 622) at Miller Road (VA 620) and also known as Kernstown, Virginia. The community of Opequon was designated a National Historic District in 2002. Opequon School, which was in operation from 1884 to 1934, remains standing on Glass Spring Road in town. Also on Glass Spring Road is the Second Opequon Presbyterian Church. Home to Opequon Quaker Camp on brucetown road. Opequon Quaker Camp(OQC) is a sleep away summer camp for children ages nine to fourteen; located just north of Winchester, Virginia. It as a part of the Baltimore Yearly Meeting Camps. While it is a quaker camp one does not need to be quaker to attend camp. Children from around the globe have attended this camp (Thailand, PA, MD, D.C., TX). At the camp the children take part in camping trips such as canoeing, backpacking on the Appalachian Trail, rock climbing, and chores. It is a coed camp.

Opequon Historic District is a national historic district located in Opequon near Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia. It encompasses 33 contributing buildings and 1 contributing site in the village of Opequon. Notable buildings include Race Mills (ca. 1751, ca. 1812 additions, 1950s restoration) the oldest surviving building in the village, the Glass-Rinker-Cooper Mill (c. 1812), Greenwood, The Millhouse (1738 or 1756), Homespun (1771), the Hodgson (Bayliss) Store (late 1800s), The Second Opequon Presbyterian Church (1939), Tokes' Inn (late 1800s), and Bleak House (Bageant House).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

The First Battle of Kernstown was fought on March 23, 1862, in Frederick County and Winchester, Virginia, the opening battle of Confederate Maj. Gen. Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson's campaign through the Shenandoah Valley during the American Civil War. Attempting to tie down the Union forces in the Valley, under the overall command of Maj. Gen. Nathaniel P. Banks, Jackson received incorrect intelligence that a small detachment under Col. Nathan Kimball was vulnerable, but it was in fact a full infantry division more than twice the size of Jackson's force. His initial cavalry attack was forced back and he immediately reinforced it with a small infantry brigade. With his other two brigades, Jackson sought to envelop the Union right by way of Sandy Ridge. But Col. Erastus B. Tyler's brigade countered this movement, and, when Kimball's brigade moved to his assistance, the Confederates were driven from the field. There was no effective Union pursuit. Although the battle was a Confederate tactical defeat, it represented a strategic victory for the South by preventing the Union from transferring forces from the Shenandoah Valley to reinforce the Peninsula Campaign against the Confederate capital, Richmond. Following the earlier Battle of Hoke's Run, the First Battle of Kernstown may be considered the second among Jackson's rare defeats.

Homespun, also known as the Bell House, is a historic home located near Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia. It is a vernacular, 2+1⁄2-story log, frame, stone and brick structure dating from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The earliest section was built in the 1790s, and is a three-bay wooden structure consisting of two log pens with a frame connector, or dogtrot, and covered with weatherboards. A two-story, two-bay, stone and brick addition was built about 1820. Also on the property is a contributing stone smokehouse.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

The Second Battle of Kernstown was fought on July 24, 1864, at Kernstown, Virginia, outside Winchester, Virginia, as part of the Valley Campaigns of 1864 in the American Civil War. The Confederate Army of the Valley under Lt. Gen. Jubal A. Early soundly defeated the Union Army of West Virginia under Brig. Gen. George Crook and drove it from the Shenandoah Valley back over the Potomac River into Maryland. As a result, Early was able to launch the Confederacy's last major raid into northern Union territory, attacking the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in Maryland and West Virginia and burning Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, in retaliation for the burning of civilian houses and farms earlier in the campaign.

Opequon Presbyterian Church is a historic Presbyterian church located near Winchester, in Frederick County, Virginia. It was built in 1897, and is a one-story, gable-roofed, random-rubble stone church. It features Gothic-arched colored-glass, one-over-one windows and a three-stage corner bell tower containing an entrance. Also on the property are four burying grounds (one contributing) with the oldest marked grave site dated to 1742.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

Kernstown is an unincorporated community within the independent city of Winchester, Virginia. Parts of Kernstown also lie within Frederick County. It is centered along the Valley Pike U.S. Route 11. During the American Civil War, the first and second Battles of Kernstown were fought here. Adam Kern Sr. (1742-1799) was of German origin, and migrated from York County, Pennsylvania to Frederick County in 1765. He settled three miles south of Winchester along the Great Wagon Road. The town of Kernstown was named for his son, Adam Kern Jr. (1773-1855). Previous names include: Opequon - at the intersection of the "Great Wagon Road" – now Hwy 11 – and Opequon Creek Hogue's Tavern – named after a tavern located at the intersection of the "Great Wagon Road" – now Hwy 11 – and Opequon Creek Kernsville – Settlement on Adam Kern Sr.'s land (his brother Michael Kern (1744-1814) purchased 33 acres in 1766 and 36 acres in 1767 and sold all to Adam Kern Sr. in 1773) along the "Great Wagon Road" – now Hwy 11 – south of Winchester near Opequon Creek Kernstown – Town was officially established by an act of the Virginia Assembly in 1799. Town was named after Adam Kern Jr., son of Adam Kern Sr.

Round Hill is an unincorporated community in Frederick County, Virginia, United States. Round Hill is located west of Winchester on the Northwestern Turnpike (U.S. Route 50). It is often referred to as Round Hill after Round Hill (1381 ft) but this may cause confusion as there is already an incorporated town with the same name in nearby Loudoun County. Round Hill has also been known as Chambersville throughout its history. It lies on Round Hill Road (SR 803), off U.S. Route 50 at Poorhouse Road (SR 654). The Frederick County Poor Farm was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.

Bartonsville is an unincorporated community located along Opequon Creek in Frederick County, Virginia between Winchester and Stephens City. Bartonsville is on Springdale Road (SR 649) to the west of Valley Pike (US 11). Historically, it has been referred to as Barton's Mill and Bartonville. The area of Bartonsville was first settled by the Hite Family in 1733. During the American Civil War, the village was garrisoned with a small stone fort of unknown location held by the Union Army.

Springdale Mill Complex, also known as Springdale Flour Mill, is a historic grist mill complex located near Bartonsville, Frederick County, Virginia. The mill was built about 1788, and is constructed of coursed rubble limestone with wood-frame end gables. Associated with the mill are a number of outbuildings which were erected in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a 2+1⁄2-story rubble limestone residence, and a 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame residence.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
