The Salmon River (Mi'kmawi'simk: Plamui-sipu) is a Canadian river in central Nova Scotia's Colchester County. Rising in the Cobequid Hills in the central-northeastern part of the county, the river descends through a broad glacial valley at the head of Cobequid Bay, the eastern extremity of the Bay of Fundy. The river discharges into the bay at a point between Lower Truro and Lower Onslow, the historic head of navigation. A tidal bore is observed daily on the lower part of the river to the head of the tide at Truro. The river is known for ice jams during the spring freshet. Poor planning has led to urban sprawl in Truro and the neighbouring areas of the county impacting the river's floodplain. During the 1869 Saxby Gale, the entire floodplain and significant areas of Truro were inundated by ocean waters. The community of Salmon River takes its name from the river.

Onslow Speedway is a once famous maritime racing track located in Onslow (near Truro), Nova Scotia, Canada, where many well known racers from the Maritimes once raced or started racing. The track ran as a dirt track from 1965 to 1979, as a paved track from 1980 to 1993, and then off and on from there. Onslow Speedway ran from 1965 to 1978 as a dirt oval and then it was paved and ran from 1979 to 1994. Onslow was then used off and on for other events 1995-2005 (the Maritime Legends Tour was supposed to use the track in 2004). Russel White bought it in 1980 and had the track listed for sale in fall of 1983. Robert Mosher bought track in late fall of 1985. Gary McKinnon bought it in 1999. Scott Fraser (member of the Canadian Motorsports Hall of Fame) raced from 1986 to 1991 (started at age 16), in the Street Stock division. He was rookie of the year at Onslow Speedway in 1987. He also set a record for the most wins ever in a single year at Onslow Speedway. Wayne Smith (the Oval Outlaw) was Sportsman Champion At Onslow Speedway in 1988.

Onslow is a rural, unincorporated Canadian community in central Colchester County, Nova Scotia. The community is located along the north bank of the Salmon River, opposite the town of Truro and is largely a farming area. The area was first settled by Acadians and resettled after their expulsion as Onslow Township in 1761 by Irish emigrants under Colonel McNutt. The township is believed to have been named after Arthur Onslow.An important highway interchange is located in the community, where Highway 102 terminates at Highway 104. Onslow is home to Central Colchester Junior High School, operated by the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board. Onslow also contains a John Deere dealership and a volunteer fire department; the corner store has closed. In the fall and spring, migrating Canada geese are attracted to the farmlands. Onslow is geographically situated in an area with high winds, making it an excellent location for wind turbines. Some farmers in the area have chosen to erect wind turbines to power their farm(s). Nova Scotia Power has a power distribution point in Onslow where it interconnects the Halifax Regional Municipality with Cape Breton, South Shore and New Brunswick Power Transmission System.

The Rath Eastlink Community Centre is a multi purpose sporting facility located in Truro, Nova Scotia. The facility features an NHL sized arena, a competition-sized (25m) swimming pool, a water slide, a fitness centre and, a rock climbing wall. The facility opened on March 2, 2013.The opening day was set for fall 2012 but, was delayed due to a steel plant fire, and painting issues during construction of the arena.

Nova Institution for Women (French: Établissement Nova pour femmes) is a Canadian federal prison for women in Truro, Nova Scotia. The facility, which handles different levels of offenders, can accommodate up to 70 inmates. Nova Institution opened in 1995. The Colchester Legion Stadium is a 1625-seat multi-purpose arena in Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada. The Colchester Legion Stadium has six team dressing rooms, an officials room and first aid room. Canteens and washrooms are located at the front of the facility. Upstairs is a fully heated lounge which overlooks the ice surface or main venue area of the stadium.The facility served as home to the Truro Bearcats of the Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) from 1996 until 2013 until the team moved to the new Rath Eastlink Community Centre. The arena has hosted the 1998 Allan Cup as it was won by the Truro Bearcats senior team, 2001 World Under 17 Hockey Championships (co-hosted with New Glasgow) and the 2002 Fred Page Cup.Colchester Legion Stadium is also home to local High School Hockey, Minor Hockey, Lacrosse during the summer and a local figure skating club. Events such as expos, model railway shows, a circus and flea markets are held often during summer months. The arena hosted the Hockeyville NHL exhibition game between the Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa Senators on September 25, 2006. The Canadiens won the game 7-3. The nearby community of Salmon River won the CBC competition during the spring of 2006.

Colchester County is a county in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. With a population of 51,476 the county is the fourth largest in Nova Scotia. Colchester County is located in north central Nova Scotia. The majority of the county is governed by the Municipality of the County of Colchester, the county also is home to two independent incorporated towns, Stewiacke and Truro, two village commissions in Bible Hill and Tatamagouche, and the Millbrook 27 First Nations reserve.
