Shaarei Tefillah (Hebrew: שַׁעֲרֵי תְפִלָה, lit. 'Gates of Prayer'), officially Congregation Shaarei Tefillah, is a Modern Orthodox synagogue located at 35 Morseland Avenue in the village of Newton Centre in Newton, Massachusetts, in the United States. In 2003, the synagogue had a membership of 140 families, and in 2012 that number had risen to 220 families. The congregation is notable for the unusual concentration of distinguished scholars among its members.

Newton College of the Sacred Heart was a small women's liberal arts college in Newton Centre, Massachusetts. It opened in 1946 and merged with Boston College in June 1974. The college was highly regarded during its time, and in 1971 founded the Institute for Open Education, which later became Cambridge College. Like many women's colleges during the 1960s and 1970s, its applications and profits were hurt by coeducation. By the time of its closing, it was $5 million in debt. After its closing, Boston College assumed responsibility for paying off Newton's debt and also continued the undergraduate program for Newton's students through graduation. It began to oversee services and programs for the approximately 3,000 living alumnae of Newton. In 1997, with the assistance of Newton's alumnae association, Boston College created the Newton College Alumnae Professorship in Western Culture. Today, the 40-acre (162,000 m²), 15-building Newton campus is the home of the Boston College Law School, as well as dormitories for first-year Boston College students. The campus is approximately 1.5 miles (2 km) away from the main Chestnut Hill campus of Boston College.

Boston College Law School (BC Law) is the law school of Boston College. It is situated on a 40-acre (160,000 m2) wooded campus in Newton, Massachusetts, about 1.5 miles from the university's main campus in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. With approximately 800 students and 60 full-time faculty members distinguished for scholarly research, BC Law is consistently ranked in the top-tier of law schools in the United States. In 2021, U.S. News & World Report ranked BC Law as the #29 law school in the nation. The school's small size and prestige make admission highly selective. Reflecting its Roman Catholic (Jesuit) heritage, BC Law has established programs in human rights, social justice and public interest law, as well as programs in business law and innovation, law and public policy and criminal and civil litigation. Its faculty played a part in arguing for the repeal of the Solomon Amendment, presenting oral arguments before the United States Supreme Court in Rumsfeld v. FAIR. According to BC Law's 2021 American Bar Association (ABA)-required disclosures, 90.2% of the Class of 2020 obtained full-time, long-term, JD-required or advantage employment ten months after graduation. For 2021, the acceptance rate was 23.49%, with 22.79% of accepted students enrolling, with an average LSAT score of 165, and with an average GPA of 3.69.

The Commonwealth Avenue Historic District of Newton, Massachusetts, encompasses roughly the eastern half of Commonwealth Avenue, extending from Waban Hill Road, near the city line with Boston, westward to Walnut Street. The roadway was laid out in 1894 and completed in 1895. Its design was influenced in part by the local residents, who were willing to give land for some of the route, and the design of Boston portions of the road, in which Frederick Law Olmsted was involved. Construction of the roadway was followed by the construction of fashionably large residences along its route, which took place mostly between the road's construction and about 1920. The district includes 188 residential properties, which are mainly built in the revival styles popular in the early 20th century. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

The Edward Parsons House is a historic house at 56 Cedar Street in Newton, Massachusetts. Built in 1877, this 1+1⁄2-story wood-frame house is an unusual local small-scale example of Stick style. Its gables are decorated with applied wood. The porch is further decorated with chamfered posts, brackets, and rosettes. Nothing is known of its first owner, Edward Parsons, who was listed as a "gentleman" in the local business directory.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

East Parish Burying Ground, also known as Centre Street Burying Ground or Centre Street Cemetery, is an historic cemetery located at Centre and Cotton streets in the village of Newton Corner in the city of Newton, Massachusetts. On December 23, 1983, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It has been called the "most important, the most evocative and also the most fragile historic site in the city."

The Sumner and Gibbs Streets Historic District is a residential historic district encompassing a cohesive collection of houses representing styles common in the Newton Centre area of Newton, Massachusetts during its first period of growth. It includes houses along Sumner Street, between Cotswold Terrace and Willow Street, and the adjacent house at 184 Gibbs Street. The houses were built between 1865 and 1899, and are predominantly in the Queen Anne and Colonial Revival styles. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

Newton Country Day School of the Sacred Heart (often abbreviated to Newton Country Day School, Newton, or NCDS) is a private, all-girls Roman Catholic high school and middle school located on the Loren Towle Estate in Newton, Massachusetts, as part of the Sacred Heart Network of 21 schools in the United States and 44 countries abroad.

The Henry I. Harriman House is a historic French château style house at 825 Centre Street in Newton, Massachusetts. Built in 1916 for Henry I. Harriman, it is one of Newton's most elegant 20th-century suburban estate houses. It is now part of the campus of the Boston College Law School. It was known as Putnam House, in honor of benefactor Roger Lowell Putnam, when the campus was that of Newton College of the Sacred Heart. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

The Newton Campus Soccer Field is the on-campus soccer and lacrosse stadium at Boston College in Newton, Massachusetts. The 1,800 person capacity stadium was built in 1999. The current tenants are the Boston College Eagles men's & women's soccer teams and Boston College Eagles women's lacrosse.

The Loren Towle Estate is a historic estate at 785 Centre Street in Newton, Massachusetts, USA. The estate's construction began in 1920 for real estate executive Loren D. Towle as a 35-room, Gothic-style English Revival mansion with formal gardens, terraces, tennis courts, and garage. Design of the estate buildings was by Arthur W. Bowditch, and landscaping design was provided by the Olmsted Brothers firm. Towle died in 1924, before the mansion was completed. In December 1925 it became home to the Newton Country Day School, and in 1990 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

The Adams Claflin House is a historic house at 156 Grant Avenue in the village of Newton Centre in Newton, Massachusetts. It is a large 2+1⁄2-story cross-gable wood-frame structure, built in the Shingle style to a design by Samuel Brown for Adams Davenport Claflin. Claflin was the son of Massachusetts Governor and Newtonville resident William Claflin, and was a major landowner in Newtonville as well as president of the Boston and Suburban Electric Company. Claflin was a major developer of the streetcar system that served Newton. Architecturally, the house shows vestiges of the Queen Anne style, with its asymmetrical massing and wealth of projections and gables, as well as elements of the Colonial Revival, exemplified by a Palladian window, and by the pedimented front porch. The house is one of several designed by Brown for the Claflin family.On September 4, 1986, the house was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
