The former St. Anthony's Catholic Church is a redbrick historic Roman Catholic steepled church complex located at 2222-2238 West Market Street in Louisville, Kentucky. Designed by noted local architect William H. Redin in the Gothic Revival style of architecture, it was built in 1887. After a disastrous fire on January 26, 1939, which caused extensive damage to all buildings in the complex except the rectory to the left of the church, architect Walter C. Wagner Sr. designed the reconstruction of the complex which was done by Skilton and Sullivan Construction Company. In 1978, the parish school was merged with St. Cecilia School and Our Lady of the Port Academy to form Community Catholic School on the St. Cecilia campus. On March 1, 1982, the complex was added to the National Register of Historic Places. In 2011, the Archdiocese of Louisville closed the church, merging its boundaries into those of the nearby Good Shepherd Parish. The centennial was celebrated on June 17, 1984.

The Church of Our Merciful Saviour in Louisville, Kentucky was established in 1891. The church is located at 473 South 11th Street in Louisville's near west end. This historic church was built in the Late Gothic Revival style and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. Today the church is active member parish of the Episcopal Diocese of Kentucky and serves mostly the African American community. The congregation took the name Church of Our Merciful Saviour in 1873. After an 1890-built building was destroyed in a fire in 1912, the present church was built. The building's design is tentatively attributed to Bertram Goodhue and has been asserted to be similar to his Trinity Episcopal Church in Asheville, North Carolina.The church was sponsor of the first Boy Scout Troop for Negro boys in the United States in 1916.

The Doerhoefer–Hampton House, at 2422 W. Chestnut St. in the Russell neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky, has been deemed "the most architecturally prominent structure" in the neighborhood. It was built in Italianate style in 1887 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

The Universal Car Company, at 2500 W. Broadway in the California neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky, was built in 1923. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.It is a two-story brick building. Also known as the Universal Chevrolet Company Building, it was one of Louisville's first dedicated new car sales showrooms.

Boone Square is one of the Frederick Law Olmsted parks in Louisville, Kentucky. It is also one of the smaller ones, one full city block in size. In the middle of Louisville's working-class Portland neighborhood, it is bordered by 19th St. on the west, Duncan St. on the south, 20th St. on the east and Rowan St. on the north. It opened to the public on July 1, 1891.

The National Tobacco Works Branch Stemmery is a stemmery in Louisville, Kentucky, located at 2410-18 W. Main St. It was built in 1898 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.The building was designed by D.X. Murphy & Brothers; D.X. Murphy also designed the Jefferson County Jail (Louisville, Kentucky) and the Jefferson Branch Library.It was part of Louisville's National Tobacco Works, a large manufacturer of chewing tobacco.It was later the Hubbuch In Kentucky Service Center.

Heaven Hill Distilleries, Inc. is a private, American family-owned and operated distillery founded in 1935 and headquartered in Bardstown, Kentucky, that produces and markets the Heaven Hill brand of Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey and a variety of other distilled spirits.Its current distillery facility, called the Heaven Hill Bernheim distillery, is in Louisville, Kentucky. It is the seventh-largest alcohol supplier in the United States, the second-largest holder of bourbon whiskey inventory in the world, the largest, independent, family-owned and operated producer and marketer of distilled spirits in the United States, and the only large family-owned distillery company headquartered in Kentucky (not counting Brown-Forman Corporation, which is publicly traded but more than two-thirds family-controlled, or Sazerac Company, which is family-owned but headquartered in Louisiana).

California is a neighborhood in urban Louisville, Kentucky, United States. It is bounded on the north by Broadway, on the east by Ninth Street, on the south by Oak Street, and on the west by Twenty-Sixth Street. There are no written records of the beginning of the neighborhood, but the area was settled by German immigrants around 1849. It is said that the subdivision, initially called Henderson, came to be known as California because it was the "far west" of Louisville. African Americans settled the area after the Civil War, starting the California Colored School and a branch of the Freedmen's Bureau. The early population was mixed between whites and blacks, but white families began to leave around 1900. The neighborhood lost 50% of its population and 40% of its single-family housing from 1950 to 1980 and became known for its urban decay. California has been the subject of urban renewal efforts, including those by the Brown-Forman Corporation, whose headquarters and warehouse is located in the neighborhood. A commercial neighborhood arose at 18th Street (Dixie Highway) and Oak. Both Madden Hardware and the Oak Theater were on the east side of 18th.

Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School was an elementary school in Louisville, Kentucky's Portland neighborhood. It was built in 1865. It was initially known as Eleventh Ward School, and became Duncan Elementary School in 1870, then Roosevelt Elementary School in 1920, in honor of former United States President Theodore Roosevelt.

Albert S. Brandeis Elementary School is a former elementary school in Louisville, Kentucky that began operation in 1913. It is listed as a historic building with the National Register of Historic Places. It was patterned after the Charlton House in England. It was designed by J. Earl Henry, the renowned early 20th century Louisville architect. The historic building is located at 1001 South 26th Street. The school itself operates at 2817 W. Kentucky St. in a modern facility. It became a math/science/technology magnet school in fall 1990. It was Louisville's first magnet program in an elementary school.

The Portland Museum is a neighborhood history and art museum in Louisville, Kentucky. It details the history of the Portland neighborhood both as an independent town in the early 1800s and after Portland's amalgamation into Louisville after the construction of the Portland Canal.The museum consists of three buildings: Beech Grove, a 19th-century Italianate mansion, the former Portland Bridge Baptist Mission Building, connected at Beech Grove's north side, and the AHOY House, a renovated Victorian property adjacent to the museum. The museum is also working to restore the 1812 Squire Earick House.

The former St. Patrick's Catholic Church is a historic Roman Catholic parish church located at 1301-1305 West Market Street in Louisville, Kentucky, United States. The church built in 1860 is a large 3-story steepled redbrick Romanesque Revival building, while the rectory next door is a 2-story redbrick structure. In 1991 the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Louisville leased the building for 25 years to Dismas House Charities to be use as a rehabilitation center known as "Dismas House".On March 17, 2004, over 600 attended a the 150th celebration. The original 1854 Church and school which was situated behind the church on 13th Street were torn down without a demolition permit in June 2004 by its owner, Cardinal Insulation, shortly before the time the Xaviarian Brothers would celebrate their 150th anniversary. Despite all three structures being added March 1, 1982, to the National Register of Historic Places former parishioners were in shock and vowed to seek local Louisville Landmark status for the 1862 Church and rectory. A complete history of the church was written by Doris Batliner and published to secure the needed funds to pay for the designation. On March 17, 2006, the church became a local Louisville landmark. Plans are underway to return the 1854 Church cornerstone to the site of its former location March 17, 2014 for the church's 160th anniversary.
