Green Bay, Wisconsin

La Baye was a small trading post established on the Baie des Puants in 1634 by Jean Nicolet. Nicolas Perrot, who was sent by Father Claude-Jean Allouez, continued the work that Nicolet had started. In 1671, the Jesuits constructed a mission. Fort La Baye was thus constructed in 1717. The town of La Baye was incorporated in 1754. At the end of the Seven Years' War, it went under British control in 1761 and was renamed Green Bay.By 1718, there were some Métis families in the very broad area of the fort, but no settlement focused on it specifically. Other families settled across the river from the fort in an area which was called Munnomonee, because of the Menominee native people that lived there. It was not until 1763 that concerted civilian settlement by people with some European ancestry began in the area. The first settlement in that year was led by Charles de Langlade, who was the son of a French-Canadian father and an Odawa mother. Most of the families had come to La Baye from the Mackinac area.In 1816 La Baye had a population of about 40 families, who were virtually all Métis. In the summer of 1820 La Baye was estimated by Henry Schoolcraft to have 500 inhabitants, all essentially Métis or at least in Métis families, that is even if they could be called clearly French, Odawa, or some other Native American group, their spouse was of a different group.

On February 23, 2022, Shad Thyrion, a 24-year-old American man, was murdered and dismembered by his lover, Taylor Schabusiness. Thyrion's severed head was discovered by his mother, Tara Pakanich, in a bucket in the basement of their family home in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Other severed body parts, including Thyrion's bisected torso in a storage tote, were later discovered by police. Schabusiness, who was involved in a sexual relationship with Thyrion, admitted to strangling him to death during sexual intercourse while they were both intoxicated with methamphetamine and prescription drugs. She continued to have sex with Thyrion's body before dismembering, removing his internal organs, and mutilating it. Schabusiness was arrested and charged with murder of the first degree, mutilating a corpse, and third-degree sexual assault. On July 26, 2023, a jury convicted her on all three counts. Sentencing took place on September 26 with Schabusiness sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Green Bay (Latin: Diocesis Sinus Viridis) is a Latin church diocese in the northeast region of Wisconsin in the United States. It is a suffragan diocese of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. Its mother church is the Cathedral of Saint Francis Xavier in Green Bay. The Diocese of Green Bay was erected on March 3, 1868, by Pope Pius IX. The bishop of Green Bay as of April 2023 is David Ricken.

St. Willebrord Catholic Church is a parish of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Green Bay located in downtown Green Bay, Wisconsin. It was founded in 1864 by Dutch immigrants, and dedicated to St. Willibrord. The church is spelled Willebrord (with an "e" in the middle) because stonemasons made a mistake when carving the name. The historic church was built starting in 1889. St. Willebrord Catholic Church was a regular place of worship for Vince Lombardi and is one of the stops on the Packers Heritage Trail.

The Brown County Courthouse located in Green Bay, Wisconsin. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places for its artistic and architectural significance in 1976. The courthouse is a waypoint on the Packers Heritage Trail.

The Packers Heritage Trail is a self-guided walking tour that traverses locations relating to the history of the Green Bay Packers. 22 of the sites have bronze commemorative plaques. 21 sites are located within a two-mile radius of downtown Green Bay.

Kellogg Public Library and Neville Public Museum is located in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The site was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 9, 1981, for its significance in architecture and social history. It was built in 1901 in the Classical Revival architectural style. In 1983, the County took full control of the museum and moved it across the river to its current location.

The CityDeck is a riverfront boardwalk/promenade along the edge of the Fox River in downtown Green Bay, Wisconsin. It is about one-quarter-mile in length and situated between the Walnut Street bridge and the Ray Nitschke Memorial Bridge with multiple platforms extending out over the Fox River. There is 720 lineal feet of dock space amongst the platforms. It operates as a City park but also a key part of the Fox River State Recreational Trail. It was designed by Boston landscape architects Stoss Landscape Urbanism.

Fort Howard was a 19th-century fortification in the north central United States, built by the U.S. Army. It was located along the west bank of the Fox River in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

The Milwaukee Road Passenger Depot in Green Bay, Wisconsin was built in 1898 by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad (also known as The Milwaukee Road) to serve the businesses and residences in Green Bay on the east bank of the Fox River. Two other depots from competing railroads were built on the west bank, including the Green Bay station (Chicago and North Western Railway).

St. Francis Xavier Cathedral is the cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Green Bay in Green Bay, Wisconsin, United States. The cathedral was named in honor of St. Francis Xavier. The cathedral was planned and erected between 1876 and 1881 under the episcopate of Francis Xavier Krautbauer. It was designed on the pattern of Ludwigskirche, a landmark church in the center of Munich, Germany. Krautbauer ordered a monumental crucifixion painted by Johann Schmitt, a local German-descent painter of the Nazarene movement. Krautbauer was buried under the cathedral's floor.The cathedral began receiving a series of 18 restorations starting in 2014. It closed in September 2017 and was reopened at a 9:00 mass on Sunday December 3, 2017. 2017 Repairs include the floors, pews, paintings, and pipe organ.

Port Plaza Mall (later known as Washington Commons) was an urban area shopping mall/multi-use facility located in downtown Green Bay, Wisconsin. The mall opened on August 10, 1977, and featured 3 anchor stores over the years, with JCPenney and H.C. Prange open at its launch and Boston Store added by 1982. The mall would go into a state of decline in the late 1990s and 2000s, Boston Store closed in 2000, Younkers which replaced Prange, closed in 2004, and JCPenney closed in 2005. The mall would close on February 27, 2006. The mall property was razed during the 1st half of 2012 as part of a redevelopment project; the headquarters of Schreiber Foods now stands on the main mall footprint.
