Bottacks (Na Botagan in Scottish Gaelic) is a small scattered township, located 1.5 miles north north east of Strathpeffer, in Ross-shire, Scottish Highlands and is in the Scottish council area of Highland. The village of Fodderty lies 1 mile to the east.

The Battle of Drumchatt was a Scottish clan battle that took place in 1497. The Clan Mackenzie and possibly the Clan Munro defeated the Clan MacDonald of Lochalsh at Drumchatt (Druimchat) or "the Cat's Back", a ridge to the southeast of Strathpeffer.

Brahan Castle was situated 3.5 miles (5.6 km) south-west of Dingwall, in Easter Ross, Highland Scotland. The castle belonged to the Earls of Seaforth, chiefs of the Clan Mackenzie, who dominated the area.

The siege of Brahan took place in Scotland in November 1715 and was part of the Jacobite rising of 1715. Highlanders loyal to the British-Hanoverian government of George I of Great Britain laid siege to Brahan Castle, seat of William Mackenzie, 5th Earl of Seaforth, who was a staunch Jacobite, loyal to the House of Stuart.

River Sgitheach also known as Skiach or Skiack, (Scottish Gaelic Abhainn Sgitheach, "Hawthorn River") (grid reference NH5162) is a river in Ross and Cromarty, Scotland. It rises on the southern slopes of Ben Wyvis, passes through Strath Sgitheach, passing Clare plantation, Swordale, the village of Evanton, and after about 13 miles (21 km) empties into the Cromarty Firth near the ruin of the old Kiltearn parish church. About a mile to the northeast, on the other side of Balconie Point, the Allt Graad also empties in the Firth. The ruin that lies on the beach between the two rivers is an old salmon fishing bothy of the Novar Estate. During the summer the water level falls but the river remains an obstacle and even at traditional fords it is difficulty to get across with dry feet. There are five bridges: an estate bridge in Strath Sgitheach; the B817 road bridge as the road enters Evanton; the railway bridge; the A9 main road bridge; and a wooden footbridge only 100 yards before the river meets the sea. Evanton waste water treatment plant is on the banks of the river between the A9 and the sea. The river was formerly anglicised as either "Skiach" or "Skiack", but the Gaelic spelling is used by the Ordnance Survey name and that of Highland Council. It is pronounced like SKEE-ach. The river game its name to the now-demolished Glenskiach distillery, which was near Milton of Katewell.

Fodderty (Scottish Gaelic: Fodhraitidh) is a small hamlet, close to Dingwall, Ross-shire in the Scottish Highlands and is in the Scottish council area of Highland.The small hamlet of Bottacks is located 1 mile to the west, and just to the east is Brae or Brea, formed in 1777 from the lands (long held by a branch of the Mackenzies) of Davochcarn, Davochmaluag and Davochpollo. "Davochmaluag" is named after the famous missionary saint - St Moluag of Lismore (died AD592) - to whom the church at Fodderty was dedicated. Only a mound remains in the burial-ground to mark where this church stood. Fodderty Cemetery also contains the burial place of Willie Logan (1913-1966) that is marked by a memorial in the shape of a pier of the Tay Road Bridge which, through his father's Muir of Ord-based building firm, he helped to construct. He also founded the Scottish regional airline Loganair. The growing town of Dingwall now encroaches on Fodderty.

Achterneed railway station was a railway station serving Strathpeffer and located on the Kyle of Lochalsh Line, in Wester Ross, Scotland.

Achterneed (Scottish Gaelic: Uachdar Niad), also spelled Auchterneed, is a village in Highland, Scotland, lying on the slopes above Strath Peffer. Achterneed lies within the environs of Castle Leod, seat of the Earl of Cromartie, and within two miles of Strathpeffer. While there are few amenities in the village itself, there is a public phone box and post box. Achterneed railway station, which lies next to a level crossing, used to serve the Dingwall and Skye Railway, but was closed in 1965 and all-but demolished. The station house, while remaining, is now a private residence. The Heights of Achterneed (Scottish Gaelic: Àirdean Uachdair Niad), lying to the north, is a small dispersed crofting settlement, which, today, is often considered to be part of Achterneed itself. The surrounding hillside also plays host to the crofting settlements of Bottacks (Scottish Gaelic: Na Botagan), the Heights of Inchvannie (Scottish Gaelic: Àirdean Innis Mheannaidh) and the Heights of Keppoch (Scottish Gaelic: Àirdean Cheapaich).

The River Orrin is a river in former Ross-shire, Highland, northern Scotland. The River Orrin is dammed in Glen Orrin making the Orrin Reservoir. It later forms the Falls of Orrin, is joined by the tributary Allt Goibhre, and then enters the River Conon near Urray shortly before it flows past Conon Bridge into the Cromarty Firth.The river gives its name to the aircraft in the 1985 British Airtours Flight 28M accident in which 55 passengers and crew perished at Manchester Airport.

Strathpeffer railway station was a railway station serving the town of Strathpeffer in the county of Ross and Cromarty, (later Highland Region), Scotland. The first station was located some distance from the town, on the Dingwall and Skye Railway line, and was opened in 1870. Seasonal visitors to Strathpeffer increased considerably in numbers, and a branch line to Strathpeffer itself was opened in 1885; the earlier station was renamed Achterneed. Tourism increased considerably, but the First World War interrupted the leisure development, and it never recovered after the war. In 1946 the second Strathpeffer station was closed to passengers. The earlier station, now called Achterneed, continued in use, being located on a through line, but it closed in 1964.

Clach an Tiompain (in English, the "Sounding Stone") or The Eagle Stone is a small Class I Pictish stone located on a hill on the northern outskirts of Strathpeffer in Easter Ross, Scotland.

Castle Leod is the seat of the Clan Mackenzie. It is a category A listed building, and the grounds are listed in the Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes of Scotland, the national listing of significant gardens. It is located near Strathpeffer in the east of Ross-shire in the Scottish Highlands.
