Mill of Morphie

The Stone of Morphie (sometimes known as the Stone of Morphy) is a standing stone about 700 metres west of the Coast Highway (A92 road) bridge of the River North Esk and 400 metres east of the historic Mill of Morphie in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The stone is approximately 3.5 metres high and is unshaped and uninscripted; the base of this stone measures approximately 70 by 100 centimetres.The RCAHMS record number for the Stone of Morphie is NO76SW 6 7169 6273. According to RCAHMS, the stone is "Traditionally said to mark the grave of a son of Camus, killed in a battle between the Scots and the Danes". Local tradition claims the site as an alternative burial site for a leader of a Viking army that was decimated by the Scots army at the apocryphal Battle of Barry in 1010 AD. Sunnyside Royal Hospital was a psychiatric hospital located in Hillside, north of Montrose, Scotland. It closed in 2011 and is now used for housing.

Hillside is a village in Angus, Scotland, situated 1 mile to the north of Montrose. The village is the location for the now disused psychiatric hospital, Sunnyside Royal Hospital. The hospital which was founded by Susan Carnegie in 1781 as the Montrose Lunatic Asylum, Infirmary and Dispensary had originally been situated on Montrose links. It moved out of the town to new premises at Hillside on lands that were part of Sunnyside farm in 1858. The hospital was expanded several times thereafter, before finally closing in 2011.

North Water Bridge Halt railway station served the village of St Cyrus, Aberdeenshire, Scotland from 1866 to 1951 on the Montrose and Bervie Railway.

The North Esk (Scottish Gaelic: Easg Thuath) is a river in Angus and Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It is formed by the meeting of the Water of Mark (from Glen Mark) and the Water of Lee (from Loch Lee), and enters the North Sea four miles north of Montrose. It forms the boundary between Angus and Aberdeenshire at certain stages in its course. It was also noted in the 19th century as a good point for fishing.
