Whalton Manor

Whalton is a small village in Northumberland, England. The population at the 2001 census was 427, which increased to 474 by the 2011 Census.It hosts an annual Bale Fire on 4 July, the date on which midsummer's eve was celebrated before the introduction of the Gregorian calendar to England in 1752. It features morris dancing and dancing by the children of the village school outside of the Beresford Arms, which provides beer and a barbecue. The annual village show takes place on the third Saturday in September, and generally includes sheep racing, classic cars, military vehicles, a birds-of-prey exhibit, archery, a brass band, a dog show, a farmers market, Northumbrian pipes music, a vegetable show, a flower show, teas and coffees, home baking, and a harvest festival at the church. Whalton Manor is located at the heart of Whalton. Its garden is open to the public.

Belsay is a village and civil parish in Northumberland, England. The village is about 5 miles (10 km) from Ponteland on the A696, which links the village with Newcastle upon Tyne and Jedburgh. The population of the civil parish was 436 at the 2001 census, increasing to 518 at the 2011 Census.Scottish nobleman and doctor, John de Strivelyn, was granted the manor around 1340 by Edward III. On his death, the estate passed to his daughter Christiana, who was married to Sir John Middleton, and it has remained with the Middleton family ever since. Belsay was formerly a township in the parish of Bolam, in 1866 Belsay became a civil parish. Belsay parish includes the former parishes of Bitchfield, Black Heddon, Bolam, Bolam Vicarage, Bradford, Gallowhill, Harnham, Newham, Shortflatt, Trewick, and Wallridge which were merged with Belsay on 1 April 1955.Belsay is home to Belsay Castle, a fine medieval castle, and to Belsay Hall.

Tranwell Airfield is a former airfield located 3.3 miles (5.3 km) southwest of Morpeth and 11.5 miles (18.5 km) north west of Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear, England. The former airfield is the site of the former Royal Air Force Station Morpeth or simply RAF Morpeth which was an air gunnery school and was home to No. 80 (French) Operational Training Unit RAF. Today the site has reverted to agriculture although several wartime buildings remain and are used for storage. Parts of the hard standings also survive and are used for a car boot sale every Sunday.

Bolam is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Belsay in the county of Northumberland, England. The village is about 20 miles (32 km) north-west of Newcastle upon Tyne, near Bolam West Houses. In 1951 the civil parish had a population of 60. On 1 April 1955 the parish was abolished and merged with Belsay.

Mitford Hall is a Georgian mansion house and Grade II* listed building standing in its own 85-acre (34 ha) park overlooking the River Wansbeck at Mitford, Northumberland. It was built in 1828 by the Mitford family to a design by architect John Dobson, to replace their old home, Mitford Old Manor House, on the opposite side of the river. Since 1993 it has been owned by Shepherd Offshore, the Shepherd family business run by Bruce and Freddy Shepherd.
