Snow Creek (ski resort)

Iatan is a village in Platte County, Missouri within the United States. The population was 69 at the 2010 census. It is within the Kansas City metropolitan area.

Cantonment Martin was intended to be a temporary Army camp to provide support for an engineering expedition led by Stephen H. Long. Possibly the first troops marched from St. Louis, Missouri, to what is now the western border of Missouri. The troops, commanded by Capt. Wyly Martin, established a post that was probably on the northwest section of Cow Island, because of abundant cottonwood timber there.Cow Island was named Isle au Vache by the French, which literally meant Island of the Cow. A lone cow was discovered on the island, in the Missouri River. It was speculated that Indians may have placed it there to prevent its escape or possibly it was a buffalo that strayed from its herd. Eventually the island's name was shortened to Cow Island. This island no longer exists. It is today on the Kansas side of the shore of the Missouri River between Atchison, Kansas, and Fort Leavenworth.Long's expedition set out by boat from St. Louis from St. Louis in June 1819. He started with four boat, but lost one in a river snag along the way. The most useful was the Western Engineer, which was a stern wheeler steamboat. Long was charged with running a peace powwow between two Indian groups and the Indians agreed to stop committing depredations against the Army.Long's men were at the post for the winter and they set out up the river. After they returned in October the post was abandoned. It was temporarily occupied in 1826 and it was called Camp Croghan.

Fort de Cavagnial (also known as Fort Cavagnolle, Fort Cavagnal, Post of the Missouri, or Fort de la Trinité) was a French fort and trading post located on the west cliffs of the Missouri River, somewhere north of Kansas City, Kansas, and Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, from 1744 until about 1764. While the ruins of the site were still visible when Meriwether Lewis and William Clark ventured in the area during their famed 1804 westward expedition, all traces of the fort were eventually lost by the mid-19th century. Today, the exact location of the fort is a mystery.

Notable buildings include the John Maitland Home (c. 1860), Humphrey House, Railey Brothers Banking Building, Hull Mill, Methodist Church (1868), old Presbyterian Church (1846), German Evangelical Lutheran Church (1867), Weston Baptist Church or Weston Historical Museum and Library Building(1902), and McGhay House.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.

Missouri District Warehouse, also known as the Weston Tobacco Warehouse and Weston Burley House No. 1, is a historic warehouse located at Weston, Platte County, Missouri. It was built in 1937, and is a sprawling, two-story, rectangular, steel-frame building sheathed with corrugated metal. It measures 125 feet by 300 feet. It was built as a loose-leaf tobacco auction warehouse and curing barn.: 5 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.
