It is a two-story, Federal-style brick house built about 1813, five bays wide and two deep, with a new stone wing. The house features a one-story, flat-roofed portico with four Doric columns.During the period of 1867 through the mid-1880s, Mary E. Ireland and her family lived at the Elisha Kirk House.The Elisha Kirk House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

John Churchman House is a historic home located at Calvert, Cecil County, Maryland, United States. It consists of two distinct sections: a two-story, three-bay, gable-roofed brick house laid in Flemish bond dated to 1745; and a two-story, two-bay, gable-roofed house built in 1785 of uncoursed fieldstone. It was home to several generations of the locally prominent Churchman family, a number of whose members were important in the religious and educational history of Maryland-Pennsylvania Quakers in the 18th century.The John Churchman House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

It consists of three distinct portions: a two-story, three-bay, gable-roofed Flemish bond brick part dating to 1746; a three bay wide frame portion of the house dating to the early and late 19th century; and a log pen addition. The house is an example of the Pennsylvania Quaker building tradition in Maryland. The Plumpton Park Zoo is located in Rising Sun, Maryland, United States, along Maryland Route 273, which is part of the Mason and Dixon Scenic Byway. The Jeremiah Brown House and Mill Site, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, is also on the site. The zoo was started by Edward Plumstead in 1985 on his family estate, initially with deer and a few domestic animals. Now the zoo is home to over 180 exotic animals of 60 different species and a professionally trained staff of zookeepers and professionals. The zoo welcomes over 85,000 visitors a year.

Jeremiah Brown House and Mill Site is a Colonial-era mill complex and national historic district at Rising Sun, Cecil County, Maryland, United States. It consists of two distinct halves: a two-story, three-bay, gable-roofed stone structure built in 1757 by Jeremiah Brown, Sr., a Quaker from Pennsylvania; and a two-story, two-bay gable-roofed frame house built in 1904 by John Clayton on the site of the original 1702 log wing. Also on the property is a small 19th century bank barn; a reconstruction of the original mill built on top of the stone foundations of the 1734 Brown Water Corn and Gristmill; and the foundations of an 18th-century saw mill.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. The entire site is located within the grounds of the Plumpton Park Zoo.

State Line Serpentine Barrens is a 60-square-mile (160 km2) tract of serpentine barrens in Pennsylvania and Maryland in the eastern United States. The protected area is actually an assemblage of six tracts owned by a combination of the Nature Conservancy, the State of Pennsylvania, two counties, a township, and private owners. The largest tract is Nottingham County Park in Chester County, which has also been deemed a National Natural Landmark. The second-largest is Goat Hill Serpentine Barrens, jointly owned by the Nature Conservancy and the Pennsylvania Forestry Department (as a unit of William Penn State Forest), and the third-largest, Chrome Serpentine Barrens, is jointly owned by Elk Township and the Nature Conservancy. Rock Springs Preserve in Lancaster County is managed by the Lancaster Conservancy.The site has been named an Outstanding Geologic Feature of Pennsylvania. In the 19th century, the Pennsylvania–Maryland serpentine barrens were mined for chromite and magnesite. Other serpentine barrens in the mid-Atlantic region of North America include Soldiers Delight Barrens in Maryland and some scattered sites on Staten Island, including Serpentine Ridge Nature Preserve.

Blue Ball Village is an unincorporated community in Cecil County, Maryland, United States.Andrew Job, a Quaker settler, operated the Blue Ball Inn starting in 1710 at a crossroads in the area. The former village of Blue Ball is no more, but Blue Ball Road retains the name.The settlement is located 7 mi (11 km) east of Rising Sun along Maryland Route 273.
