Zaniemyśl lies next to a series of lakes, making it a popular tourist destination. There is also a steam railway running between Zaniemyśl and Środa Wielkopolska. This is the oldest steam railway in Poland.

Its seat is the village of Zaniemyśl, which lies approximately 12 kilometres (7 mi) south-west of Środa Wielkopolska and 33 km (21 mi) south-east of the regional capital Poznań. The gmina covers an area of 106.76 square kilometres (41.2 sq mi), and as of 2006 its total population is 6,191.
