Kilbride, St. John's

The Newfoundland School for the Deaf was a provincial school in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador with both residential and day programs serving deaf and hard-of-hearing students. The school taught both elementary and secondary students. Student population was approximately 10 students in the senior school and 20 in the elementary school, total is 30 students. Deaf students from Canada often attend Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C., and Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York. In August 2010, it was announced that the school would be closing as there would be no students attending in the upcoming school year, and none projected within the next five years; all the students in the province who were deaf or hard-of-hearing were in the public school system.

Bowring Park is located in the Waterford Valley, St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. Entrance to the park is via Waterford Bridge Road, passing a sculptured duck pond and a Peter Pan statue.

Mundy Pond is a pond in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada that runs along Mundy Pond Road. It has facilities such as a park and skatepark near its shore, with a trail around its shore.

The General Protestant Cemetery is an historic cemetery located in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. It is located on the side of the shallow Waterford River valley and is bounded on the upper (north) side by Old Topsail Road and on the lower side by Waterford Bridge Road.

The Avalon Mall is a Canadian shopping mall located in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador on Kenmount Road. With over 500,000 square feet (46,000 m2), two floors, and 142 stores, it is the largest shopping mall in Newfoundland and Labrador. The mall opened in 1967 and is owned by Crombie REIT.

Victoria Park is a Victorian-era urban park located in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador and named for Queen Victoria. The park has street frontage on Water Street, Sudbury Street, Hamilton Avenue (formerly Pokeham Path), and Angel Place, and occupies most of the block bounded by Water Street, Sudbury Street, Hamilton Avenue, Alexander Street.

The Parkway is a major arterial road in the city of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. It consists of three distinct roads that form a single through route: Columbus Drive, Prince Philip Drive, and Macdonald Drive. A four-lane limited-access road with a speed limit of 70 km/h along most of its length, the parkway begins at an intersection with Pitts Memorial Drive in the city's west end and terminates at Logy Bay Road in the east end.

Prince of Wales Collegiate is a public high school located in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It served part of St. John's as well as the rural community of Portugal Cove-St. Philip's. The school was erected in 1959. At that time it was called United Collegiate and along with Prince of Wales College on LeMarchant Road was governed by The United Church School Board. In 1962, Prince of Wales College closed as a high school and this school was renamed Prince of Wales Collegiate. A major extension to the original building was erected in 1993. Prince of Wales offers a number of Advanced Placement courses and concurrent studies affiliated with Memorial University. They offer local courses in French Immersion, Spanish, Russian and Italian that come with the opportunity for international travel, and strong programs in arts, theatre and music. A wide variety of extracurricular activities are available, including a wide variety of boys' and girls' athletic teams and special interest clubs.

VOCM is an AM radio station in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, broadcasting at 590 kHz. Owned by Stingray Group, VOCM first went on the air on October 19, 1936. Through the "VOCM/Big Land FM Radio Network" of stations owned by Stingray, VOCM programming is carried throughout the province. VOCM and its sister station VOCM-FM are among the four radio stations in Canada having call signs beginning with the prefix VO, the ITU prefix issued to the Dominion of Newfoundland before its confederation into Canada in 1949. The other two, VOWR and VOAR-FM, also broadcast in St. John's; all but VOCM-FM predate the confederation. VOCM-FM adopted the callsign in 1982 because of its corporate association with VOCM; all three of the others signed on before 1949, while Newfoundland was still a dominion, and were allowed to keep the "VO" call signs despite the end of Newfoundland's sovereignty. During the time when the United States had bases in Newfoundland and Labrador, the American Forces Radio and Television Service operated radio station with the "VO" call signs including the last - VOUS in Argentia, which closed in the late 1960s. The rest of Canada's radio stations use call signs of CB (for the CBC), CF, CH, CI, CJ and CK. Stingray also owns a number of other AM stations in Newfoundland and Labrador that use VOCM as their main or secondary brand. These stations all have C callsigns.

Kenmount Road is a major road in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. It begins at the intersection of Freshwater Road and Thorburn Road, just east of the Columbus Drive overpass. Originally passing through rural farmland, Kenmount Road is now a significant commercial area, with the Avalon Mall at its eastern end, followed by a series of car dealerships, restaurants, hotels, and other businesses. At its western end, Kenmount Road intersects Topsail Road and the Trans-Canada Highway, and has been extended into the Town of Paradise, where it runs into another road, McNamara Drive. O'Leary Industrial Park is located just north of Kenmount Road, with access via Pippy Place and Peet Street. Further west, past the intersection with the Team Gushue Highway, lies the Kelsey Drive big-box retail area. West of Kelsey Drive, the new Kenmount Terrace subdivision is currently under development. In the 2022 provincial budget it was announced that a school would be constructed in Kenmount Terrace, a first for the area.The Trans-Canada Highway originally continued down Kenmount Road, prior to the construction of the Outer Ring Road in the 1990s, which diverted the highway onto a new alignment across the north of the city. The overpass that carries Kenmount Road (originally the Trans-Canada Highway) over Topsail Road holds a special place in the province. One of the first highway interchanges constructed in the province, it has come to represent the boundary between the St. John's urban region and the remainder of the island. The phrase "beyond the overpass" is commonly used to refer collectively to all areas of Newfoundland that lie outside the boundaries of metro St. John's.

Bishops College was a high school located in central St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. It was next to another high school called Booth Memorial High. Bishops College had a French immersion and English stream programs and was well into its fifth decade as an educational institution. It offered grades 10 to 12 to a total student population of about 600 and operated under the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Education curriculum. Bishops College was under the trusteeship of the Eastern School District. It closed on June 25, 2015. Students from Bishops and the neighbouring Booth Memorial High commenced the 2015-2016 school year at Waterford Valley High, which was built to replace both aging schools. In September 2019, it was announced that the building will reopen after extensive renovations as Bishops Gardens, a state of the art seniors home.

CHOZ-FM is a Canadian radio station based in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. Its main St. John's transmitter broadcasts at 94.7 MHz, with additional transmitters located throughout the island. The station, known as OZ FM, is one of the various media properties of the Stirling family; this includes local television station CJON-DT.
