Gostyczyna [ɡɔstɨˈt͡ʂɨna] is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Nowe Skalmierzyce, within Ostrów Wielkopolski County, Greater Poland Voivodeship, in west-central Poland. It lies approximately 9 kilometres (6 mi) east of Skalmierzyce, 27 km (17 mi) east of Ostrów Wielkopolski, and 113 km (70 mi) south-east of the regional capital Poznań.

Osiek [ˈɔɕɛk] is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Nowe Skalmierzyce, within Ostrów Wielkopolski County, Greater Poland Voivodeship, in west-central Poland.

Kalisz railway station is a railway station in Kalisz, in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, Poland. The station opened in 1902 and is located on the Łódź–Forst (Lausitz) railway. The train services are operated by PKP and Polregio.

It lies approximately 4 kilometres (2 mi) east of Skalmierzyce (the gmina seat), 23 km (14 mi) east of Ostrów Wielkopolski, and 109 km (68 mi) south-east of the regional capital Poznań.

The Battle of Kalisz took place on 29 October 1706 in Kalisz, Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth during the Great Northern War. The battle was fought by Russian cavalry along with allied Saxon and Polish forces, led by commander Aleksandr Menshikov; against a smaller Swedish force headed by colonel Arvid Axel Mardefelt and resulted in an allied victory. By this time the Polish forces under Augustus the Strong had signed a peace treaty with the Swedes, but August had delayed informing his Russian allies, leading to the battle.

Kalisz (Polish: [ˈkaliʂ] ) is a city in central Poland, and the second-largest city in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, with 97,905 residents (December 2021). It is the capital city of the Kalisz Region. Situated on the Prosna river in the southeastern part of Greater Poland, the city forms a conurbation with the nearby towns of Ostrów Wielkopolski and Nowe Skalmierzyce. Kalisz is one of the oldest cities in Poland and one of the two traditional capitals of Greater Poland (alongside Poznań). It has served as an important regional center in Poland since the Middle Ages as a provincial capital and notable royal city. It is one of the historical burial sites of medieval Polish monarchs and dukes of the Piast dynasty and the site of a number of significant events in Polish history as well as several battles. Since the 19th century it has been the center of an industrial district. It is the cultural, scientific, educational and administrative center of the eastern and southern Greater Poland region, and the seat of Roman Catholic Diocese of Kalisz.

Szczypiorno [ʂt͡ʂɨˈpjɔrnɔ] is a municipal neighbourhood of the city of Kalisz, Poland, located in its south-western part. Formerly until 1976 a separate village at the outskirts of the city, it is best known as a seat of a World War I and Polish–Soviet War prisoner of war camp and the name-sake for szczypiorniak, the Polish language name for the game of handball.

Kalisz County (Polish: powiat kaliski) is a unit of territorial administration and local government (powiat) in Greater Poland Voivodeship, west-central Poland. It came into being on 1 January 1999 as a result of the Polish local government reforms passed in 1998. Its administrative seat is the city of Kalisz, although the city is not part of the county (it constitutes a separate city county). The only town in Kalisz County is Stawiszyn, which lies 18 km (11 mi) north of Kalisz. The county covers an area of 1,160.02 square kilometres (447.9 sq mi). As of 2006 its total population is 80,369, out of which the population of Stawiszyn is 1,554 and the rural population is 78,815.

Zagorzyn [zaˈɡɔʐɨn] is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Blizanów, within Kalisz County, Greater Poland Voivodeship, in west-central Poland. It lies approximately 18 kilometres (11 mi) south of Blizanów, 2 km (1 mi) south-east of Kalisz, and 109 km (68 mi) south-east of the regional capital Poznań.
