Galten is a former railway town in central Denmark, at the Aarhus-Hammel-Thorsø railroad which was closed in 1956. The town is located in Skanderborg Municipality, Region Midtjylland, Jutland – about 17 kilometres (11 miles) – west of Aarhus and is now more or less a satellite town of Aarhus. Today, Galten has almost fused with the neighbouring eastern town of Skovby into an urban area with a population of 9,177 (1 January 2023).To the west of the town of Galten there are beautiful landscapes. The scenery between Galten and the nearby lakeside town of Ry is characterised by the gently rolling hilly landscape that is so characteristic of eastern Jutland. Galten is home to the STARCO Europe A/S, a global group for specialty tire and wheel engineering and manufacturing, and furniture maker Skovby Møbelfabrik.In 2022, Galten became twin city with the German city Würzburg located in Franconia. A small wine shop exists in Galten selling only Franconian wines.There is a movement to have a stop in Galten on the new Aarhus-Silkeborg railway line.

Until 1 January 2007 Galten municipality was a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Aarhus County in the eastern part of the Jutland peninsula in central Denmark. The municipality covered an area of 72.73 km2, and had a total population of 11,086 (2005). Its last mayor was Jens Grønlund, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party. The site of its municipal council was the town of Galten. The municipality was created in 1970 as the result of a kommunalreform ("Municipality Reform") that combined the following parishes: Galten, Sjelle, Skivholme, Skovby, Skørring, Stjær, and Storring parishes. Galten municipality ceased to exist as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It was merged with existing Hørning, Ry, and Skanderborg municipalities to form the new Skanderborg municipality. This created a municipality with an area of 416 km2 and a total population of 49,469 (2005) in Region Midtjylland.

Svejstrup is a hamlet in Skanderborg Municipality, Central Denmark Region, Denmark. It is between the towns of Skanderborg and Ry. It is one of the highest villages in Denmark, with an elevation of 80–100 meters.

Alken is a village in Skanderborg Municipality, Denmark. Alken is served by Alken railway station, located on the Skanderborg–Skjern railway line.

Alken station is a railway station serving the village of Alken in East Jutland, Denmark.The station is located on the Skanderborg–Skjern railway line from Skanderborg to Skjern. The station opened on 2 May 1871 with the Skanderborg-Silkeborg section of the Skanderborg-Skjern railway. The train services are currently operated by Arriva which run frequent regional train services between Aarhus and Herning.

Skanderborg Municipality (Danish: Skanderborg Kommune) is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Region Midtjylland on the Jutland peninsula in central Denmark, just southwest of Aarhus. It covers an area of 462.45 km2, with a population of 65,138 (1. January 2023). Its mayor as of 1 April 2019 is Frands Fischer, representing the Social Democrats political party. Skanderborg is the municipality's main town, and serves as the seat of the municipal council. On 1 January 2007 Skanderborg municipality was, as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipal Reform" of 2007), merged with Galten, Ry, and Hørning municipalities, along with Voerladegård Parish from Brædstrup municipality, to form the present, expanded "Skanderborg Municipality". The former municipality covered an area of 143.22 km2, and had a population of 21,745 (2003). Its last mayor was Aleksander Aagaard, a member of the agrarian liberal Venstre political party. The municipality is part of Business Region Aarhus and of the East Jutland metropolitan area, which had a total population of 1.378 million in 2016.

Illerup Ådal (English: Illerup River-valley) is a river valley and archeological site located near Skanderborg in East Jutland, Denmark.

Skanderborg railway station (Danish: Skanderborg Station or Skanderborg Banegård) is a railway station serving the town of Skanderborg in East Jutland, Denmark.The station is located on the Fredericia-Aarhus railway line from Fredericia to Aarhus and is the eastern terminus of the Skanderborg-Skjern railway line from Skanderborg to Skjern. It offers direct InterCity services to Copenhagen, Hamburg, Aarhus and Aalborg as well as regional train services to Aarhus, Fredericia, Esbjerg, Herning, Skjern and Struer. The train services are operated by DSB and Arriva.

Låsby is a small town in the province of Jutland in Denmark with a population of 2,034 (1 January 2023). It is situated on the main road between Silkeborg and Aarhus. The town is the location of the flagship property of Det Blå Marked (trans. "The Blue Market"), a chain of Danish antique markets, and which is a major tourist attraction, bringing in over half a million visitors to the town every year. In April 2005 it had its 15 minutes of fame as it became the first place in Denmark to experience the exploding toad phenomenon.

Skanderborg is a town in Skanderborg Municipality, Denmark. It is situated on the north and north eastern brinks of Skanderborg Lake and there are several smaller ponds and bodies of water within the city itself, like Lillesø, Sortesø, Døj Sø and the swampy boglands of Eskebæk Mose. Just north of the town on the other side of Expressway E45, is the archaeologically important Illerup Ådal. Over time, the town has grown into a suburb of Aarhus to the north east, connected by the urban areas of Stilling, Hørning and Hasselager. Skanderborg is home to a population of 20,079 (1 January 2023), out of Skanderborg municipality's total population of 65,138 (2023).

Elvirasminde or Elvirasminde A/S is a company and chocolate factory in Skanderborg, Denmark. It is a major producer of sweets and nationally the largest producer of Flødeboller, a Danish version of chocolate-coated marshmallow treats under the brand name Samba. The company produced 1-2 million units per day in 2016 and sells worldwide. The company is situated in northern Skanderborg on Danmarksvej. In 2014 Spangsberg Chokoladefabrik based in Copenhagen bought Elvirasminde and moved its production of Spangsberg marshmallow treats to the factory in Skanderborg.

Smukfest (also known as the Skanderborg Festival) is an annual music festival, held during the second weekend of August in Denmark. Its location, in a beech forest in the vicinity of Skanderborg, has given rise to the slogan "Denmarks' Most Beautiful Festival" (Danish: Danmarks Smukkeste Festival). The festival covers many styles of music, such as rock, pop, folk, heavy metal, hip-hop and electronic. The festival focuses mainly on Danish music, but with some big names from other countries e.g. Britney Spears, Eric Clapton, Prince, Pet Shop Boys, Ozzy Osbourne, Tom Jones, Fat Boy Slim, Blood Hound Gang, Rihanna and many more. The first festival was held in 1980, and was a one-day event with 7 bands and about 600 spectators. The festival has a mascot called "Waltidur Festismuk Kærligkys Ølimund Rockilund Trold" (Waltidur Party-beauty Loving-kiss Beer-in-mouth Rock-in-grove Troll), born in 1579, thus the festival was born on Waltidurs 400th birthday. In 2009, Skanderborg Festival was held for the 30th time and is today the second largest festival in Denmark, after the Roskilde Festival. The festival gathered more than 50,000 people for the concerts, including 8,500 workers, most of them volunteers and has reached the current site's maximum capacity.
