Aston Manor Academy

Aston Manor was a local government district of Warwickshire in what is now northern Birmingham, from the 19th century to 1911, when it was added to Birmingham. The Aston Manor Local Board of Health was formed in 1869, from part of the ancient parish of Aston. It became an urban sanitary district in 1875, and then under the Local Government Act 1894 became an urban district with a directly elected council. Aston Manor covered the area today known as Aston, including Aston Park, along with Lozells. It was immediately to the north of the county borough of Birmingham. There were extensive manufacturing facilities, including those of motors and cycles with their accessories, also paper-mills, breweries, etc. The population then was largely industrial. The district contained the now publicly owned Aston Hall.Aston Manor was granted a charter of incorporation to become a municipal borough in 1903. The census of 1911 recorded a population of around 75,000 in the borough, enough for it to become a county borough in its own right. It instead was added to the county borough of Birmingham that year.

The Grazebrook Engine is an 1817 beam engine that was used for blowing air over the hot coals of a blast furnace to increase the heat. It is now found as sentinel sculpture on the Dartmouth Circus roundabout at the entrance of the A38(M) in Birmingham, England. It is believed to be the largest steam engine used in Birmingham.It was built in 1817 to the designs of Watt, who had a foundry in Soho, Birmingham, by Grazebrook & Whitehouse for their Dudley foundry in Dudley, Worcestershire. It provided air for two blast furnaces. In 1912, it was retired, remaining on site as a standby engine. It was dismantled in 1964, and is now displayed on the Dartmouth Circus roundabout at the entrance of the A38(M) (Aston Expressway) and the A4540 (Dartmouth Middleway).

St Mary's Church, Aston Brook is a former parish church in the Church of England in Birmingham. The church was demolished in the 1970s. The church was built in 1863 to designs of the architect James Murray. It was consecrated by Henry Philpott, Bishop of Worcester, on Thursday 10 December 1863. The tower was added in 1882. The church was equipped with a two manual pipe organ by Norman and Beard. A specification of the organ can be found on the National Pipe Organ Register.In 1864, a parish was formed out of the parishes of St. Peter and St. Paul, Aston, St Silas’ Church, Lozells, and St Matthew's Church, Duddeston. The church opened a school for Girls and Infants in 1868.The church is noted for having a rugby club which played a match against a team from Villa Cross Wesleyan Chapel in Handsworth. For the team from Villa Cross Wesleyan Chapel, this was their first match as Aston Villa Football Club. As a condition of the match, the Villa side had to agree to play the first half under rugby football rules and the second half under association football rules.

The Drum was an intercultural arts centre in the Newtown area of Aston, in Birmingham, England; originally established as the United Kingdom's national centre for Black British and British Asian arts. Activities included music, drama, spoken word, exhibitions, visual arts, comedy and dance.

St Stephen the Martyr's Church, Newtown Row is a former Church of England parish church in Birmingham.

Newtown, also referred to as Aston New Town, is an inner city area of Birmingham, England, just to the north of the city centre.Newtown is centred on the A34 road, locally named New Town Row which runs from Birmingham City Centre through north-west Birmingham into Walsall; and part of the A4540 which is the ring-road around the centre of the city. Newtown is bordered by a number of other areas such as the Jewellery Quarter, the Gun Quarter and the University of Aston. West is Hockley and the Hockley Flyover, to the north west is Lozells and to the north east is Aston. Points of interest include The Bartons Arms, an historic pub; Aston Hippodrome, a defunct theatre; The Elbow Room, a nightclub; and The Drum Arts Centre. As of May 2018, Newtown ward is served by one Labour councillor; Ziaul Islam.

Big City Radio (formerly Aston FM) is a British community radio station based in Aston, Birmingham. The station, owned and operated by Murfin Music International, broadcasts on 89.1FM in Aston and surrounding areas, on DAB and online via the station's website and mobile apps. The station launched on 1 November 2005 as Aston FM, before rebranding as Big City four years later. In November 2017 Big City Radio changed its mainstream output from classic contemporary music to 'Urban' and 'Specialised' programming. In September 2022, the station began to tease a relaunch of the former Birmingham ILR brand BRMB on its website and social media.

The Aston Hippodrome (grid reference SP072890), also known as The Hipp, was a popular theatre in the Aston area of Birmingham, England.It was opened to the public on 7 December 1908 after the completion of construction at a cost of £10,000. It was designed by James and Lister Lea who had also designed the Bartons Arms public house just a few yards away on the other side of the street. The theatre was seriously damaged in 1938 by a fire which resulted in a £38,000 refurbishment. On 4 June 1960, the theatre building ceased performances with the final performance a revue, A to Z of Striptease. The building was renovated into a bingo hall and remained so until its demolition in September 1980. The Drum, an arts centre, is located on the theatre's site. Performances were held twice daily and amongst these performances were famous acts such as Laurel and Hardy, George Formby, Gracie Fields, Larry Grayson, Morecambe and Wise and Judy Garland who performed there in 1951. The opening chapter of Ron Dawson's novel, The Last Viking, vividly describes one of the 'strip tease shows' which dominated the Hipp's offerings during the mid to late 1950s. The show was called 'Heatwave' and the scene captures the sad atmosphere of the 'artistic tableaux' which characterised these shows.

The Bartons Arms (grid reference SP072890) is a public house in the High Street (part of the A34) in the Newtown area of Aston, Birmingham, England.Built in 1900-1901 by noted pub architects partnership James and Lister Lea for Mitchells & Butlers, it is a grade II* listed building, and is on the Campaign for Real Ale's National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors.

Aston Junction (grid reference SP076881) is the name of the canal junction where the Digbeth Branch Canal terminates and meets the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal near to Aston, Birmingham, England.

Alpha Television was a British limited company which operated television studios in Aston, Birmingham from 1956 to 1970.

King Solomon International Business School is a Primary, Secondary and Sixth Form school located in Birmingham, England, on the old site of Waterlinks House; opening in 2015. It is a multi-denominational Christian school, although it takes in students of any faith or no faith. It is a 'through school', catering for pupils of any gender between the ages of 4 and 19.The school is part of the Woodard family of Christian schools (Woodard Schools), and also belongs to the Excell3 group.
