Rawson Mountains (California)

Diamond Valley Lake is a man-made off-stream reservoir located near Hemet, California, United States. It is one of the largest reservoirs in Southern California and one of the newest. It has a capacity of 800,000 acre-feet (990,000,000 m3). The lake nearly doubled the area's surface water storage capacity and provides additional water supplies for drought, peak summer, and emergency needs.The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) began the $1.9 billion construction project in 1995. Filling of the lake, by way of the Colorado River Aqueduct, began in 1999 (1999) and was completed in 2003 (2003). The lake is served by the Inland Feeder. The lake features three earth fill dams, two located on either side of the valley and one on the north rim. Construction of the dams used nearby materials, and was one of the largest earthworks projects in the United States. Excavation of core materials for the dams resulted in many paleontological finds, all of which are displayed at the Western Science Center at the lake's East end. The lake is open to boating and fishing, along with hiking and other recreational activities around the lake.

The Domenigoni Mountains are a mountain range in Riverside County, California. They lie north of the Menifee Valley and south of the Perris Valley and San Jacinto Valley, west and north of Diamond Valley and north of Domenigoni Valley. The Domenigoni Mountains are composed primarily of metamorphic rock of the Triassic - Jurassic French Valley formation within Searls Ridge and the 1967 foot summit across the saddle to the west of it. The extreme eastern end of Searls Ridge and the western extreme of the 1967 foot summit of the range are Cretaceous granitic rock. Searls Ridge and the 1967 foot summit of the Domenigoni Mountains across a saddle to the west of it, enclose Diamond Valley Lake on its northern shore together with the Rawson Mountains on its southern shore. Domenigoni Valley and Diamond Valley lie between them, and with the dams these mountains contain the reservoir. The dams were built within the rock of the French Valley formation in both ranges.

The Western Science Center (WSC), formerly the Western Center for Archaeology & Paleontology, is a museum located near Diamond Valley Lake in Hemet, California. The WSC is home to a large collection of Native American artifacts and Ice Age fossils that were unearthed at Diamond Valley Lake, including "Max", the largest mastodon found in the western United States, and "Xena", a Columbian mammoth, as well as dinosaur fossils recovered from New Mexico. Opened in 2006, the museum has been designed to provide world-class facilities for the research, curation, and presentation of the nearly one million specimens discovered during the development of Diamond Valley Lake in Hemet.

West Valley High School is a high school that serves around 1,800 students on the western side of Hemet, California. The school is accredited by the WASC Accrediting Commission for Schools and also has become an AVID Demonstration School. The West Valley High School mascot is a Mustang.

Hemet-Ryan Airport (IATA: HMT, ICAO: KHMT, FAA LID: HMT) is three miles (6 km) southwest of Hemet, in Riverside County, California.Hemet-Ryan is a main Cal Fire Air Attack Base, also used for civil purposes, Civil Air Patrol meetings, and more. It is home to a Riverside County Sheriff's Office aviation unit and a Mercy Air Air ambulance. The airport is named after the late T. Claude Ryan.

Winchester is a census-designated place (CDP) in Riverside County, California, USA. As of the 2010 census, the CDP had a total population of 2,534, up from 2,155 at the 2000 census. Winchester was founded in 1886 in Peasant Valley in what was then San Diego County. The town was named after the widow of Horace Winchester, Mrs. Amy Winchester.Largely rural for most of its history, and home to agricultural businesses including the Winchester Cheese Company, Winchester experienced rapid growth during the housing construction boom in the early-to-mid 2000s. However, construction and growth slowed when the housing bubble burst in 2007, resulting in a housing market correction. The mid-to-late 2010s saw housing prices in Winchester recover and construction continue with new subdivisions, schools, and parks being built.

Hemet Valley Mall is a small indoor shopping mall in Hemet, California. It is located on West Florida Avenue (California State Route 74) between North Kirby Street and North Gilmore Street. It is anchored by J.C. Penney and Hobby Lobby, with one vacant anchor last occupied by Sears.The mall, which cost $10 million to build and opened on October 15, 1980, with 200,000 square feet (19,000 m2) of retail space. At opening it was anchored by a 50,400-square-foot (4,680 m2), $1.8-million Harris Company department store (later became Harris-Gottschalks in 1999) and a J.C. Penney, plus 40 specialty shops. Sears was then annexed to the mall in 1998 (relocated from standalone store.) Gottschalks closed in 2009 due to bankruptcy, which was first replaced by Forever 21, and later Hobby Lobby. Sears closed in 2020 as a plan of closing 40 stores nationwide.

Skinner Reservoir, also known as Lake Skinner, is a reservoir in western Riverside County, California, located at the foot of Bachelor Mountain in the Auld Valley, approximately 10 miles (16 km) northeast of Temecula. It was created in 1973 by the construction of the Skinner Clearwell Dam (expanded 1991) on Tucalota Creek, and currently has a capacity of 44,200 acre-feet (54,500,000 m3). Located north of Rancho California Road near the Temecula Valley Wine Country, The address of the reservoir is: 37701 Warren Road, Temecula, CA 92592. Lake Skinner is operated by the Riverside County Regional Park and Open-Space District (RivCo Parks), under lease by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. It is supplied by the Colorado River Aqueduct and the State Water Project, and feeds the Robert A. Skinner filtration plant, which provides treated water to 2.5 million people in Riverside and San Diego Counties. It is named after Robert A. Skinner, general manager of the Metropolitan Water District from 1962 to 1967, who was instrumental in negotiating Metropolitan's contract with the California Department of Water Resources for delivery of water from Northern California.Lake Skinner is a popular recreation area, featuring sailing, fishing, swimming (in an off-reservoir swimming area), horseback riding and hiking. The Lake Skinner recreational area includes 1,400 acres (5.7 km²) of surface water and 300 acres (1.2 km²) of lakeside parkland, features 158 RV sites and 300 developed campsites, and is the site of the annual Temecula Valley Balloon & Wine Festival and the Solar Cup competition. The reservoir was formed by construction of a dam on Tucalota Creek, along with two minor creeks named Middle Creek and Schoolhouse Creek. Tucalota Creek below the reservoir flows to Santa Gertrudis Creek, then Murrieta Creek, then to the Santa Margarita River and ultimately to the Pacific Ocean.

Temecula Preparatory School is a tuition-free, K-12, public charter school located in French Valley, California, just north of Temecula. The school is sponsored by the Temecula Valley Unified School District and was formerly managed and operated by Heritage Classical Charter Schools of America. It follows the principles of Classical Education, with an emphasis on the four platonic virtues from antiquity: Justice, Prudence, Fortitude, and Temperance. TPS athletic teams have won several league championships. TPS curriculum has an emphasis on the arts and provides instruction in theater, art and music.
