Diamond Valley Lake is a man-made off-stream reservoir located near Hemet, California, United States. It is one of the largest reservoirs in Southern California and one of the newest. It has a capacity of 800,000 acre-feet (990,000,000 m3). The lake nearly doubled the area's surface water storage capacity and provides additional water supplies for drought, peak summer, and emergency needs.The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) began the $1.9 billion construction project in 1995. Filling of the lake, by way of the Colorado River Aqueduct, began in 1999 (1999) and was completed in 2003 (2003). The lake is served by the Inland Feeder. The lake features three earth fill dams, two located on either side of the valley and one on the north rim. Construction of the dams used nearby materials, and was one of the largest earthworks projects in the United States. Excavation of core materials for the dams resulted in many paleontological finds, all of which are displayed at the Western Science Center at the lake's East end. The lake is open to boating and fishing, along with hiking and other recreational activities around the lake.

The Rawson Mountains are a mountain range in Riverside County, California. The Rawson Mountains are located south of the Diamond Valley Lake, southeast of Domenigoni Valley, east of French Valley, west of Goodhart Canyon and north of Bachelor Mountain, Auld Valley (above Lake Skinner) and Black Mountain. The Rawson Mountains are composed primarily of metamorphic rock of the Triassic - Jurassic French Valley formation, formed as a roof pendant of the Peninsular Range Batholith. The extreme western end of the range and various intrusions within it are Cretaceous granitic rock.Crown Valley in the midst of the range is drained to the south by Rawson Canyon Creek into Tucalota Creek before it enters Lake Skinner. Its western and northern slopes drain into Warm Springs Creek watershed of the Santa Margarita River, or the reservoir. To the northeast the drainage is into the eastern Diamond Valley and the San Jacinto River.

West Valley High School is a high school that serves around 1,800 students on the western side of Hemet, California. The school is accredited by the WASC Accrediting Commission for Schools and also has become an AVID Demonstration School. The West Valley High School mascot is a Mustang.

The Western Science Center (WSC), formerly the Western Center for Archaeology & Paleontology, is a museum located near Diamond Valley Lake in Hemet, California. The WSC is home to a large collection of Native American artifacts and Ice Age fossils that were unearthed at Diamond Valley Lake, including "Max", the largest mastodon found in the western United States, and "Xena", a Columbian mammoth, as well as dinosaur fossils recovered from New Mexico. Opened in 2006, the museum has been designed to provide world-class facilities for the research, curation, and presentation of the nearly one million specimens discovered during the development of Diamond Valley Lake in Hemet.

Hemet-Ryan Airport (IATA: HMT, ICAO: KHMT, FAA LID: HMT) is three miles (6 km) southwest of Hemet, in Riverside County, California.Hemet-Ryan is a main Cal Fire Air Attack Base, also used for civil purposes, Civil Air Patrol meetings, and more. It is home to a Riverside County Sheriff's Office aviation unit and a Mercy Air Air ambulance. The airport is named after the late T. Claude Ryan.

Winchester is a census-designated place (CDP) in Riverside County, California, USA. As of the 2010 census, the CDP had a total population of 2,534, up from 2,155 at the 2000 census. Winchester was founded in 1886 in Peasant Valley in what was then San Diego County. The town was named after the widow of Horace Winchester, Mrs. Amy Winchester.Largely rural for most of its history, and home to agricultural businesses including the Winchester Cheese Company, Winchester experienced rapid growth during the housing construction boom in the early-to-mid 2000s. However, construction and growth slowed when the housing bubble burst in 2007, resulting in a housing market correction. The mid-to-late 2010s saw housing prices in Winchester recover and construction continue with new subdivisions, schools, and parks being built.

Green Acres is a census-designated place in Riverside County, California. Green Acres sits at an elevation of 1,555 feet (474 m). The 2010 United States census reported Green Acres's population was 1,805.

Hemet Valley Mall is a small indoor shopping mall in Hemet, California. It is located on West Florida Avenue (California State Route 74) between North Kirby Street and North Gilmore Street. It is anchored by J.C. Penney and Hobby Lobby, with one vacant anchor last occupied by Sears.The mall, which cost $10 million to build and opened on October 15, 1980, with 200,000 square feet (19,000 m2) of retail space. At opening it was anchored by a 50,400-square-foot (4,680 m2), $1.8-million Harris Company department store (later became Harris-Gottschalks in 1999) and a J.C. Penney, plus 40 specialty shops. Sears was then annexed to the mall in 1998 (relocated from standalone store.) Gottschalks closed in 2009 due to bankruptcy, which was first replaced by Forever 21, and later Hobby Lobby. Sears closed in 2020 as a plan of closing 40 stores nationwide.

Reinhardt Canyon is located in the Lakeview Mountains, just west of Hemet in Riverside County, California.The prehistoric petroglyph known as the Hemet Maze Stone, California Historical Landmark No. 557, is located in the canyon.

Established in August 2007, Tahquitz High School (Tah-quitz) is a high school of approximately 1700 students on the northwestern side of Hemet, California operated by the Hemet Unified School District. The high school's mascot is a 'titan warrior' school colors are green and gold. Kari McGowan was the school principal at the start of the 2023-2024 school year.The high school served as an evacuation center during the Fairview Fire of September 2022.

Hemet is a city in the San Jacinto Valley in Riverside County, California. It covers a total area of 29.3 square miles (76 km2), about half of the valley, which it shares with the neighboring city of San Jacinto. The population was 89,833 at the 2020 census. The founding of Hemet, initially called South San Jacinto, predates the formation of Riverside County. This area was then still part of San Diego County. The formation of Lake Hemet helped the city to grow and stimulated agriculture in the area. The city is known for being the home of The Ramona Pageant, California's official outdoor play set in the Spanish colonial era. Started in 1923, the play is one of the longest-running outdoor plays in the United States. Hemet has been named a Tree City USA for 20 years by the Arbor Day Foundation for its dedication to the local forest. The city is home to the Hemet Valley Medical Center, a 320-bed general hospital.
