Bounds Green tube station

Bounds Green is a residential suburb just north of Wood Green, in the London Borough of Haringey in north London. Parts of it are also known as New Southgate, but most of New Southgate lies in the London Borough of Enfield to the north-west. Bounds Green was originally formed as a popular overnight stop-over for travellers, located on the then outskirts of London, just short of the tollgate at Turnpike Lane. Bounds Green Underground station on the Piccadilly line, opened in 1932, is in the area previously known as Bowes Park and which is also served by Bowes Park railway station. The original name of Bounds Green was associated with the former Bounds Green Farm near Cline Road, some 500 metres to the north-west of the Underground station. The Green is still extant in part and is the common land either side of Bounds Green Road. The common of approximately two acres is bounded by Warwick Road, The Drive, Tewkesbury Terrace and Bounds Green Brook to the north of the A406 North Circular Road. Control of the common land passed to the London Borough of Haringey from the Municipal Borough of Wood Green in 1965. Other green areas of land include the Albert Road Recreation Ground and Golf Course Allotments.

Bounds Green Road (A109) is a road in the London Borough of Haringey that runs from the junction of Station Road and the North Circular Road in Bounds Green, to the High Road in Wood Green.

Bowes Park railway station is in the London Borough of Haringey in north London, and is on the boundary of Travelcard Zone 3 and Travelcard Zone 4. It is 5 miles 55 chains (5.69 miles, 9.15 km) down the line from London King's Cross. The station and all trains serving it are operated by Great Northern, on the Hertford Loop Line. It was first opened by the GNR in 1880, some nine years after the Loop Line itself was completed. The station is a short walk from Bounds Green Underground station on the Piccadilly line, with which it is a valid out-of-station interchange. It has an unusual location in that it is situated between two quiet residential cul-de-sacs and is accessed from a footbridge over the railway line which divides those streets. Bowes Park is the only station on the entire Hertford Loop with an island platform. In autumn 2008, a new Shere FASTticket self-service ticket machine, accepting both cash and credit cards, was installed here (and similarly at other local Govia Thameslink Railway stations). To the north of the station is a single siding in between the two running tracks which is occasionally used to turn around East Coast InterCity 225 and 125 trains heading for Bounds Green Depot just north of Alexandra Palace. A connection to the now disused GER Palace Gates Line whose terminus, Palace Gates (Wood Green), lay just to the south, was made in 1929.

Bounds Green TMD (also known as Bounds Green Train Maintenance Centre) is a traction maintenance depot situated in Bounds Green, North London. The depot is to the immediate north of Alexandra Palace railway station. It is presently operated by Hitachi and maintains AT300 units for London North Eastern Railway, Hull Trains and Lumo.

Bowes Primary School is a coeducational primary school with a nursery and a reception class. It is located between Stanley Road and Highworth Road on the North Circular Road section of Bowes Road in New Southgate in the London Borough of Enfield.

The Wilmer Way footbridge is a pedestrian bridge over London's North Circular Road in Arnos Grove. The bridge joins Wilmer Way in the north and Ollerton Road in the south. The bridge was opened in the summer of 2012 and replaced a pelican crossing. A routine inspection by Transport for London in 2014 revealed defects in the structure, leading the bridge's staircase to be closed off for repairs. Delays in carrying out the work resulted in questions being asked of Boris Johnson, the London Mayor, at the London Assembly during the Mayor's Question Time.

The Ming-Ai (London) Institute (simplified: 明爱(伦敦)学院; traditional: 明愛(倫敦)學院; pinyin: Míng'ài (Lúndūn) Xuéyuàn) is the executive arm of the Ming-Ai Association, established in 1992 to promote Chinese culture locally and deliver cultural exchanges between the United Kingdom and Greater China.Operating from Denver House near Bounds Green tube station, the Ming-Ai (London) Institute offers a number of short courses and delivers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Memorandum with Middlesex University.The Ming-Ai (London) Institute hosts and exhibits information about British Chinese cultural Heritage through the British Chinese Heritage Centre (simplified: 英国华人文化传承中心; traditional: 英國華人文化傳承中心; pinyin: Yīngguó Huárén Wénhuà Chuánchéng Zhōngxīn), a cyber centre dedicated to ongoing and past heritage projects conducted by the Ming-Ai (London) Institute. The institute has also delivered a variety of professional and vocational courses, which include the following: languages, including Japanese, Cantonese, and Mandarin; hospitality, including Food Hygiene (CIEH), BIIAB National Certificate Personal Licence Holder (NCPLH), Cookery in Chinese and Oriental Style and Dimsum Taster Days; leisure, Tai Chi (simplified: 太极, pinyin: Tàijí), Piano, Chinese Painting, Chinese Calligraphy; and others, including the Life in the UK British Citizenship Test.

Palace Gates railway station was on the Palace Gates Line in Wood Green, north London, on the corner of Bridge Road and Dorset Road. It was opened on 7 October 1878 by the Great Eastern Railway (GER) as terminus of the line that bore its name. The line had terminated at the previous station, Noel Park and Wood Green, since opening on 1 January 1878. The station was opened to provide a means by which the GER could transport passengers to the nearby Alexandra Palace. It was thus in competition with the nearby Wood Green (Alexandra Park) station - now Alexandra Palace station - on the Great Northern Railway. A connection to Bowes Park on the GNR Hertford Loop Line, which runs just north of the site of the station, was made in 1929 but it was used only for occasional freight trains. Competing as it did with other nearby railway lines and the Underground's Piccadilly line, by the 1960s the Palace Gates line was unprofitable and the line closed to passengers on 7 January 1963 and to freight on 5 October 1964. Following closure the station was demolished and housing built on most of the site. A short section of the station site at its north end is occupied by Network Rail sidings alongside which are traces of the platform ends. The remains of part of the embankment forming the southern approach to the station can still be seen, including the abutments for the bridge taking the line over Park Avenue.

Alexandra Palace railway station is on the Great Northern Route that forms part of the East Coast Main Line, and takes its name from the nearby Alexandra Palace in the London Borough of Haringey, north London. It is 4 miles 78 chains (8.0 km) down the line from London King's Cross and is situated between Hornsey and either New Southgate on the main line or Bowes Park on the Hertford Loop Line which diverges from the main line just north of Alexandra Palace.It is in Travelcard Zone 3. All trains serving it are operated by Great Northern. It is the only surviving station of three that have served Alexandra Palace. A former station also named Alexandra Palace, sited actually at the venue, was on the Highgate-Alexandra Palace Line, while Palace Gates (Wood Green) station was on the Palace Gates Line. Just outside the station to the north is Bounds Green train depot, used for storage and maintenance of the high-speed trains used on the main line. A line adjacent to the station platforms is used by shunters moving carriages and engines around in the depot. It is proposed that the station should be a terminus on Crossrail 2.
