Jurupa Mountains

The Stringfellow Acid Pits are a toxic waste dump and Superfund site located in Jurupa Valley, California, United States, just north of the neighborhood of Glen Avon. The site became the center of national news coverage in the early 1980s, in part because it was considered one of the most polluted sites in California, and because it became linked with mismanagement and scandal in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Rita Lavelle was convicted of perjury and Anne Gorsuch Burford resigned.

Mount Jurupa is the highest point of the Jurupa Mountains, located in northwestern Riverside County, California. The summit is just south of the Riverside – San Bernardino county line. A hiking trail leads to its summit, which offers panoramic views of Riverside, Fontana, San Bernardino, and Moreno Valley. In a small canyon at the base of the mountain is the Jurupa Mountains Discovery Center, a non-profit educational facility that includes nature trails, gardens, and an Earth Science Museum. The name can be traced to the Jurupa land grant dated September 28, 1838. Before the secularization of the missions, Jurupa was the name of one of the Mission San Gabriel ranchos. Jarupa was probably a Serrano or Gabrielino Shoshonean name.

Declezville is a formerly unincorporated community in southwestern San Bernardino County, in the Inland Empire region of southern California. Today, it is located within the city limits of Fontana.The community is named for William Declez, a naturalized U.S. citizen, born in France, well known for his marble business on Los Angeles Street. Declez opened granite quarries in Southern California in the 1860s in the Jurupa Hills on Pyrite Street, and built several Mexican public buildings. He died at age 73 on February 7, 1921, in the Southern Alps. When the Southern Pacific Railroad built a spur to the large granite quarries, it named the junction Declez and the terminal Declezville, after the granite works owner. Declez is now a community within south Fontana.

Jurupa Hills High School is a public high school in Fontana, California. It has been open since August 9, 2010 and is the newest high school in the city of Fontana.

The geographic location of the Jurupa area is the upper western corner of Riverside County, California, north and west of the Santa Ana River and south of the San Bernardino-Riverside County line. Glen Avon is a neighborhood and former census-designated place (CDP) in Riverside County, California, United States. The population was 20,199 at the 2010 census, up from 14,853 at the 2000 census. On July 1, 2011, the CDP became part of the newly incorporated city of Jurupa Valley.

The Pedley Hills are a low mountain range of the northern Peninsular Ranges System, in northwestern Riverside County, California. They are named for William Pedley, a civil engineer, who emigrated to the United States from England.

Sunnyslope was a census-designated place (CDP) in Riverside County, California, United States. The population was 5,153 at the 2010 census, up from 4,437 at the 2000 census. On July 1, 2011, the CDP became part of the City of Jurupa Valley.

Jurupa Valley (Serrano: Hurumpa) is a city in the northwest corner of Riverside County, California, United States. It was the location of one of the earliest non-native settlements in the county, Rancho Jurupa. The Rancho was initially an outpost of the Mission San Gabriel Arcángel, then a Mexican land grant in 1838. The name is derived from a Native American village that existed in the area prior to the arrival of Europeans. On March 8, 2011, voters approved a ballot measure, Measure A, to incorporate and form the city of Jurupa Valley. The effective date of incorporation was July 1, 2011. Residents of the area had previously voted on incorporation in 1992, but rejected that measure, along with a competing ballot measure that would have incorporated Mira Loma.The city of Jurupa Valley covers approximately 43.5 square miles (113 km2), and had a population of 105,053 as of the 2020 census. It is bordered by the cities of Eastvale, Norco, and Riverside in Riverside County and the cities of Ontario, Fontana, Rialto, and Colton in neighboring San Bernardino County.

Henry J. Kaiser High School is a small to medium-sized high school located at 11155 Almond Avenue in Fontana, California. Kaiser High is one of five comprehensive high schools within Fontana Unified School District. The school is named after renowned American industrialist Henry J. Kaiser, who founded the famous Kaiser Steel Mill, which helped to revolutionize the city of Fontana.The school was established in 1998. As of 2023, the principal is Christopher Hollister. Kaiser High School has been experimenting recently with small learning communities.

Rubidoux High School is a four-year public high school in Jurupa Valley, California. It is part of the Jurupa Unified School District, and it opened in 1959. It is one of four high schools in the district, the others being Jurupa Valley High School, Patriot High School, and Nueva Vista High School, a continuation school. As of the 2014–15 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,629 students and 67.88 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student-teacher ratio of 24.00.

Kaiser Fontana Medical Center is a large Kaiser Permanente medical facility and 420-bed hospital in Fontana, California. Built in 1955 to replace the smaller hospital at the Kaiser Steel Mill, the facility now serves over 400,000 members of Kaiser Permanente's health care plans in the area. The hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission. According to U.S. News & World Report, the hospital performs highly in diabetes & endocrinology, ear, nose & throat, geriatrics, pulmonology, and urology.In the most recent year with available data, Kaiser Fontana had 90,675 emergency department visits, 26,640 admissions, performed 4,956 inpatient and 21,790 outpatient surgeries.
