Melbourne is a village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 8 miles (13 km) west of the market town of Market Weighton and 4.5 miles (7 km) south-west of the market town of Pocklington. The village lies just to the south of the Pocklington Canal. According to the 2011 UK census, Melbourne parish had a population of 793, an increase on the 2001 UK census figure of 755.In 1823, Melbourne was in the civil parish of Thorton and the Wapentake of Harthill. Within the village was a Wesleyan and a Primitive Methodist chapel. Population at the time was 437. Occupations included two blacksmiths, two shoemakers, a joiner, a wheelwright & machine maker, a bricklayer, a cattle dealer, a shopkeeper, a brick & tile maker, and fourteen farmers, one of whom was the landlord of The Cross Keys public house. Resident in the village were two gentlemen and a yeoman, and Lieutenant General James Wharton, who was a Justice of the peace and the Commissioner of Taxes for the East and North Ridings. A carrier operated between the village and York once a week.

It is situated approximately 3.5 miles (5.6 km) south-west of the town of Pocklington and 5 miles (8 km) north-west of the village of Holme-on-Spalding-Moor. It lies just to the north of the Pocklington Canal. According to the 2011 UK census, Thornton parish had a population of 138, exactly the same as on the 2001 UK census.The village was historically sometimes distinguished by the suffix "in Spalding Moor". The parish church of St Michael on Main Street is designated a Grade II* listed building.The other listed structures in the parish are Walbut Lock and Walbut Bridge on the Pocklington Canal, both of which are Grade II listed.

It is situated approximately 6 miles (9.7 km) north of Howden town centre and 3 miles (5 km) west of Holme-on-Spalding-Moor. In 1931 the parish had a population of 63.There is currently 1 working farm and approximately 10 houses. Some are being built on an old farm.

Bielby is a village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The village is situated about 4 miles (6.4 km) south of Pocklington. According to the 2011 UK census, Bielby parish had a population of 258, a decrease on the 2001 UK census figure of 281.About two miles north-east of Bielby, on the edge of Hayton, lie the ruins of an ancient Roman military fortress, an important archaeological site. The University of Durham, Dept of Archaeology, led an excavation between 1995 and 1998 with assistance from local residents and University of Leeds students. A well, a bath-house and many other parts of the Roman fortress have been identified. The name Bielby, spelled Belebi in the Domesday Book, derives from the Old Scandinavian personal name Beli, and means "farmstead or village of a man called Beli." The total rent collected from tenants in Bielby dropped from 1066 to 1086 from £56 to £8. By the 11th century Bielebi (Bielby) had almost 10 residents. One home in Bielby is proudly named Bielbyville. Most homes in Bielby have a name plate sign displayed either on the front exterior wall or in the yard (even though the homes are modest in size). Another House at the end of the village is Manor Cottage where many a farmers worked on land next to the house (although since 2009 been empty). Bielby has an Anglican church (St. Giles), which dates back more than 900 years. The Methodist revival which swept England in the 18th century still has a visible presence in Bielby, although the old Methodist Church building in the village is now a private residence.

It is situated approximately 8 miles (13 km) north-east of Selby town centre and 6 miles (9.7 km) north of Howden town centre. It lies on the A163 road. In 1931 the parish had a population of 53.In 1823 Harlthorpe (then Harlethorpe), was in the parish of Bubwith and the Wapentake of Harthill. Population at the time was 93, with occupations including six farmers, a blacksmith, and a shoemaker.Harlthorpe was formerly a township in the parish of Bubwith, from 1866 Harlthorpe was a civil parish in its own right, on 1 April 1935 the parish was abolished and merged with Foggathorpe.

Holme Moor railway station was a station on the Selby to Driffield Line in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England serving the village of Holme-on-Spalding-Moor. It opened as Holme (Yorks) on 1 August 1848 and was renamed Holme Moor on 1 July 1923. It closed on 20 September 1954.

Gribthorpe forms part of the civil parish of Foggathorpe. In 1823, Gribthorpe (also known as Gripthorpe), was in the civil parish of Bubwith and the Wapentake of Harthill. Population at the time, including the nearby hamlet of Willitoft, was 145, with occupations including four farmers.

Allerthorpe is a village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 1.5 miles (2.4 km) south-west from the town of Pocklington. The civil parish is formed by the village of Allerthorpe and the hamlet of Waplington. According to the 2011 UK census, Allerthorpe parish had a population of 220, a slight reduction from the 2001 UK census figure of 223. The parish covers an area of 969.217 hectares (2,394.99 acres). Allerthorpe has a public house, The Plough Inn, an 18-hole golf course and a lake used for water sports and fishing. Allerthorpe Common, to the west of the village, has a nature reserve. Allerthorpe's Victorian Grade II listed Anglican parish church is dedicated to St Botolph.From the mediaeval era until the 19th century Allerthorpe was part of Harthill Wapentake. Between 1894 and 1974 it was a part of the Pocklington Rural District, in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Between 1974 and 1996 it was part of the Borough of North Wolds (later Borough of East Yorkshire), in the county of Humberside.The K6 telephone box on Main Street is Grade II listed.Thomas Cooke, the machinist and optical instrument maker, was born here. There is a memorial stone to him near the church gate and a blue plaque was unveiled in the village hall in 2009.William Dewsbury the Quaker minister was born in the village.

Spalding Moor is a moor (in the sense of an area of low lying wetland) in the East Riding of Yorkshire in England. It lies between the River Derwent and the town of Market Weighton at the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds. It forms part of the Humberhead Levels, south and east of the Escrick glacial moraine at the southern edge of the Vale of York. The name is recorded in 1172 as Spaldinghemore. The name may refer to a river named Spalding, derived from the Old English spald "ditch or fenland river", which also gave its name to the village of Spaldington. The River Spalding is not recorded, but would be the river now known as the River Foulness. The name may also be derived from the tribe known as the Spalda mentioned in the 7th century Tribal Hidage, which gave rise to the tribe or district known as the Spaldingas, the "dwellers by the Spald". If that explanation is correct, Spald could refer to some other fenland river or rivers. The Spaldingas also gave their name to the town of Spalding in Lincolnshire.As the moor was drained and cultivated, the name fell out of general use, but lives on in the name of Holme-on-Spalding-Moor. The village of Thornton was sometimes distinguished by the suffix "in Spalding Moor". The name of Barmby Moor, until 1935 formally known as Barmby on the Moor, also refers to Spalding Moor.

Barmby Moor is a village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 1.5 miles (2.4 km) west of the market town of Pocklington and 12.5 miles (20 km) east-southeast of the city of York. It lies north of the A1079 road where it is met by the B1246 road that passes through the village. According to the 2011 UK census, Barmby Moor parish had a population of 1,114, an increase on the 2001 UK census figure of 1,065.The village was originally a market town with a coaching inn. It has a church, dedicated to St Catherine, chapel, village hall and a primary school. There is also a post office and a pub, The Boot & Slipper. The church and the Manor House were designated as Grade II* listed buildings in 1967 and are now recorded in the National Heritage List for England, maintained by Historic England.Each July a traditional fete – the Barmby Feast – is held in the village.
