Soča (pronounced [ˈsoːtʃa], Italian: Sonzia) is a dispersed settlement in the Municipality of Bovec in northwestern Slovenia.

Krn (pronounced [ˈkəɾn]; 2,244 metres or 7,362 feet) is a mountain of the southwestern Julian Alps in northwestern Slovenia. It is the highest mountain of the Krn Mountains. The mountain is located about 50 kilometres (31 mi) from the Adriatic Sea. The Soča River flows west of the peak, and the smaller Lepenjica River northeast and the Tolminka River southwest of it. Krn has a mighty western wall, which can be best seen from Kobarid or Drežnica. On the southern slope of the mountain lie the small villages of Vrsno, Krn, Drežnica, Drežniške Ravne, and Magozd. On the northern side lies Lake Krn, the largest glacial lake in Slovenia. During the First World War, the Battles of the Isonzo took place in the area. The 3rd Regiment of Alpini had taken Mount Krn's peak on 16 June 1915 in a daring raid where the elite Italian unit climbed the peak's cliffs "with their boots swaddled in sacks of straw to reduce noise," some of them barefoot, and others wearing only socks, and battled the Hungarian battalion of the 4th Honved Regiment. "It was a glorious success, the first of the war, presaging others that never materialized."The top of neighbouring Mount Batognica (2,164 m or 7,100 ft) was blown off by an accidental weapon depot explosion. Many remnants from the war remain scattered around the peak.

Mount Svinjak (pronounced [sʋiˈnjaːk]) is a 1,653-meter (5,423 ft) mountain in northwestern Slovenia in the Julian Alps. It stands east-northeast of Bovec. The name of the mountain is derived from *Svitnjak 'shining one' (< svit 'dawn; light, shining') because it is illuminated by the rising sun when viewed from Bovec. The resemblance to the common noun svinjak (with various meanings: 'pigsty', 'pig dung'; 'cat's ear') is coincidental.

Bavšica (pronounced [ˈbaːu̯ʃitsa]; Italian: Bausizza) is a dispersed settlement in the Municipality of Bovec in the Littoral region of Slovenia.

Drežniške Ravne (pronounced [ˈdɾeːʒniʃkɛ ˈɾáːwnɛ]; Italian: Raune di Dersenza) is a settlement in the Municipality of Kobarid in the Littoral region of Slovenia. The local church is dedicated to Saint Matthew and dates to 1511. The church itself with some of its furnishings was damaged in an earthquake in 1998, but this also revealed traces of late Gothic frescos on the walls.

Koseč (pronounced [kɔˈsɛtʃ]; Italian: Cossis) is a small settlement above Drežnica in the Municipality of Kobarid in the Littoral region of Slovenia. A small church in the settlement dedicated to Saint Justus dates to the second half of the 14th century, making it one of the oldest surviving churches in the Soča area. It is built of travertine and its interior is covered in frescos from the late 15th century.

Drežnica (pronounced [ˈdɾeːʒnitsa]; Italian: Dresenza) is a village in the Municipality of Kobarid in the Littoral region of Slovenia. It is located above the Soča River on a small plateau under Mount Krn. Together with the neighboring settlements of Koseč, Drežniške Ravne, Jezerca, and Magozd, it has around 565 inhabitants.

Jezerca (pronounced [jɛˈzeːɾtsa]; Italian: Geserza) is a small settlement above the town of Kobarid in the Littoral region of Slovenia.

Magozd (pronounced [ˈmaːɡɔst]; Italian: Magosti) is a settlement in the Municipality of Kobarid in the Littoral region of Slovenia.

Kal–Koritnica (pronounced [ˈkaːu̯ kɔˈɾiːtnitsa]; Slovene: Kal-Koritnica, Italian: Cal – Coritenza) is a village in the Municipality of Bovec in the Littoral region of Slovenia.

The Kluže Fortress is a fort near the town of Bovec in northwestern Slovenia. The original fortress was built in 1472 near Bovec on the road between Cave del Predil and Carinthia. Its likely original purpose was defence of Friuli against the Turks. In the course of the 16th century Bovec came under Austrian authority as a result of the wars between Venice and the Habsburgs. However, for the time being it remained as an ecclesiastical dependence of Cividale and Aquileia. At the end of the 18th century it was entirely under Austria's administration, and remained so until 1918. In 1796 and 1797 fighting took place around the fort, as Napoleon's army pushed through the Koritnica gorge. Napoleon's forces took the fort in 1797 by placing artillery at a higher elevation (where Fort Hermann now stands). The fortress was then destroyed. The current fort was built upon the site by the Austrians in the late 19th century. Fort Hermann, covering the higher elevation, was built at the same time. The two are linked by a trail and a tunnel. Fort Hermann was heavily damaged and rendered unusable by Italian artillery bombardment in 1915. In 1903 part of Bovec was destroyed by a fire. What remained standing was ravaged in World War I, when the Italian-Austrian front (Battles of the Isonzo) crossed through the valley as the battle cut from north to south.

The Koritnica (pronounced [kɔˈɾiːtnitsa]; Italian: Coritenza), with a length slightly over 16 kilometers (9.9 mi), is a right tributary of the Soča River. It flows west through the Log Koritnica Valley (Slovene: Loška Koritnica) south of Mount Mangart and then turns south near Log pod Mangartom, flowing past the Kluže Fortress and through the 70-meter (230 ft) deep and 200-meter (660 ft) long Kluže Canyon (korita Kluže), also known as the Koritnica Canyon (korita Koritnice). It empties into the Soča southeast of Bovec.
