Brigham House

A triple homicide was committed in Waltham, Massachusetts, in the United States, on or very near to the evening of September 11, 2011. Brendan Mess, Erik Weissman, and Raphael Teken were murdered in Mess's apartment. All had their throats slit with such great force that they were nearly decapitated. Thousands of dollars' worth of marijuana and money were left covering their mutilated bodies; in all, $5,000 was left in the apartment. The local district attorney said that it appeared that the killer and the victims knew each other, and that the murders were not random. Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the deceased suspect in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings, had previously described murder victim Brendan Mess as his best friend, though before Mess was murdered there had been animosity between Tsarnaev and Mess over Mess's "lifestyle". After the bombings and subsequent revelations of Tsarnaev's personal life, the Waltham murders case was reexamined in April 2013 with Tsarnaev as a new suspect. Authorities said Tsarnaev and his younger brother Dzhokhar Tsarnaev may have been responsible for the triple homicide, that forensic evidence connected them to the scene of the killings, and that their cell phone records placed them in the area. While police in the first investigation said that victims were killed on September 12, The Boston Globe, Boston Herald, and The Wall Street Journal reported that at least one relative of the victims believes that the killings took place on September 11.In May 2013, Ibragim Todashev, a 27-year-old Chechen native and former mixed martial arts fighter who knew Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was shot and killed in Orlando, Florida, by law enforcement officers who had been interviewing him about the Waltham murders as well as the Boston Marathon bombings. The FBI has alleged that just before he was killed, Todashev made statements implicating both himself and Tamerlan Tsarnaev in the Waltham murders—saying that the initial crime was a drug robbery, and the murders were committed to prevent being identified by the victims.

The Robert M. Stark House is a historic house at 176 Main Street in Waltham, Massachusetts. This 2+1⁄2-story house was designed by local architect George Strout, and built in 1890 for Robert Stark, a lawyer and local politician. At the time, the east side of Main Street had become a fashionable address for the upper middle class. The house has high quality Queen Anne style, including various projecting sections and gables, a three-story turret with conical roof, bands of decorative shingles, and windows of varying sizes and shapes with a wide variety of framing treatments.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

The Grove Hill Cemetery is a historic cemetery at 290 Main Street in Waltham, Massachusetts. Established in 1703, the cemetery was Waltham's only cemetery until 1857, when Mount Feake Cemetery opened. It was authorized in 1703, but its initial 2.3-acre (0.93 ha) parcel of land was not purchased until 1704. The first documented burial, however, took place in November 1703. The northwest section of the cemetery is its oldest portion, and includes a number of unmarked gravesites. The cemetery continues in active use today, and contains a representative sample of funerary art spanning 300 years. It now covers more than 9 acres (3.6 ha), extending between Main and Grove Streets. Its main entrance features posts with an Egyptian Revival theme, a style continued with the presence of obelisks dispersed on the grounds.Two notable people are buried here. Nathaniel P. Banks (1816–1894) was a Civil War Major General and later politician. US Navy sailor Charles Gidding (1855–1943) was a peacetime Medal of Honor recipient.The cemetery was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

EDC headquarters are in Waltham, Massachusetts, and main offices in Washington, D.C., New York City, and Chicago. EDC has 1,400 employees worldwide. EDC uses technology, most notably radio, to provide educational opportunities for hard to reach learners. During the 2014 Ebola outbreak in Liberia, EDC and its partners used radio to provide lessons to students whose schools were closed due to the disease. Research conducted by EDC on teen smoking has been cited by communities and states as they consider raising the age to purchase tobacco to 21. EDC also works to improve the knowledge base in early childhood development.Named twice to The Boston Globe’s "Top Places to Work," EDC maintains a staff composed of scientists, researchers, mathematicians, educators, and health and technology specialists. The Linden Street Bridge is a historic bridge on the abandoned Central Massachusetts Railroad over Linden Street (Massachusetts Route 60) in Waltham, Massachusetts. It is a riveted lattice through truss bridge, built in 1894 by the Pennsylvania Steel Company, and is one of only three such bridges left in the state. The bridge is 98 feet 3 inches (29.95 m) long and 17 feet (5.2 m) wide, with an inside truss height of 21 feet 11.5 inches (6.693 m), and rests on granite abutments. The design of the bridge was based on that of the Northampton crossing of the Connecticut River by the same railroad. This section of the Central Massachusetts Branch, and the bridge, have been out of service since the early 1990s when service to the last customer, a lumber dealer located on Emerson Road, ended.The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989. In 2022, the city was awarded a $500,000 state grant to restore the bridge as part of the Mass Central Rail Trail.

Beaver Brook is a former MBTA Commuter Rail station in Waltham, Massachusetts. It served the Fitchburg Line. It was located near Main Street east of the center of town, and was named after a nearby brook of the same name.

The Dunbar–Stearns House is a historic house at 209 Linden Street in Waltham, Massachusetts. This 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame house was built c. 1846 by Peter Dunbar, and was originally Greek Revival in character. It had a fully pedimented gable, with a single-story porch that was supported by columns that apparently wrapped around the building. The house was purchased in 1892 by Joseph Stearns, who had the house completely remodeled to achieve its present Queen Anne styling. It was enlarged to the sides by incorporating the area of the side porticos, a turret was added to the front, and the pedimented gable was covered with decorative shingle styling. Interior alterations into the new style were equally extensive.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

The Eastern Middlesex County Second District Court is a historic courthouse of the Massachusetts District Court at 38 Linden Street in Waltham, Massachusetts. Built in 1938-40, it is one of three Art Deco buildings in the city, and its most fully realized example of the style. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

Gore Place is a historic country house, now a museum, located at 52 Gore Street, Waltham, Massachusetts. It is owned and operated by the nonprofit Gore Place Society. The 45-acre (180,000 m2) estate is open to the public daily without charge; an admission fee is charged for house tours. A number of special events are held throughout the year including an annual sheepshearing festival and a summer concert series. The mansion was built in 1806 as a summer home for Massachusetts lawyer and politician Christopher Gore. In this house the Gores entertained various notables including the Marquis de Lafayette, Daniel Webster, and James Monroe. The property was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1970 in recognition of its architectural significance as a large-scale Federal style country house, and for its well-preserved domestic staff quarters, which illustrate the changing role of domestic labor over time.

The Joseph Andrews House is a historic house at 258 Linden Street in Waltham, Massachusetts. Built in 1851, it is one of the city's oldest examples of Italianate architecture, and was one of the first houses built in Linden Street. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

The Bentley Arena is an ice hockey arena on the campus of Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts. It is home to the Bentley Falcons men's ice hockey program, replacing the previous facility, the John A. Ryan Arena. The first hockey game was on February 16, 2018 with Bentley taking on Army West Point. The total capacity for hockey games is 2,240.The 76,000 square foot facility was designed by Architectural Resources Cambridge and built by Suffolk Construction. Ground broke on the Arena in the summer of 2016, and was completed in February 2018. In May 2018, the Arena was awarded an LEED Platinum rating, the highest possible rating for sustainability, according to the U.S. Green Building Council. Since opening, the arena has hosted various events, such as Bentley's annual Spring Day concert.
