North Weald Airfield (ICAO: EGSX) is an operational general aviation aerodrome, in the civil parish of North Weald Bassett in Epping Forest, Essex, England. It was an important fighter station during the Battle of Britain, when it was known as the RAF Station RAF North Weald. It is the home of North Weald Airfield Museum. It is home to many private aircraft and historic types, Essex & Herts Air Ambulance helicopter and is an active flight training airfield.

Roughtalley's Wood is a 3.4 hectare Local Nature Reserve in Theydon Garnon parish in Essex, England. It is owned and managed by Epping Forest District Council.Part of this site is ancient woodland of hornbeam, oak and silver birch, with an understorey which is mainly hazel and hawthorn. The other part is younger woodland which has wildflower glades with orchids such as broad-leaved helleborines, bee orchids and common spotted orchids. There are fauna such as slowworms and grass snakes.There is access from Pike Way.

Gernon Bushes is a 32 hectare nature reserve north-east of Epping in Essex. It is managed by the Essex Wildlife Trust. It is part of the Epping Forest Site of Special Scientific Interest and Nature Conservation Review site.This site is ancient coppice, with old hornbeam pollards, and many ponds which were formerly created for gravel extraction. There are areas of marsh with large patches of the unusual marsh fern, and other plants include marsh marigold and ragged robin.There is access to the site from Coopersale village.

Thornwood Common is a village on the B1393 road, in the civil parish of North Weald Bassett and the Epping Forest district of Essex, England. In 2018 it had an estimated population of 1016.The town of Epping is 1 mile (1.6 km) to the south. The hamlet of Thornwood is conjoined to the village at the north. Thornwood Common Flood Meadow is a Local Nature Reserve.

Church Lane Flood Meadow is a 3.3 hectare Local Nature Reserve in North Weald Bassett in Essex. It is owned and managed by Epping Forest District Council.The site was created to relieve flooding in the parish, and it is managed for wildlife. A pond and wet grassland have been created, and over 2,500 native deciduous trees have been planted. Plants include ragged robin and marsh cinquefoil, and 16 butterfly and moth species have been recorded, together with 10 dragonflies and 60 birds.There is access to footpaths on the site by a footpath from the High Road.

Thornwood Common Flood Meadow is a 3-hectare (7.4-acre) Local Nature Reserve in Thornwood Common in Essex. It is owned and managed by Epping Forest District Council.The flood meadow was created in 1998 by the council and the National Rivers Authority to alleviate flooding in Thornwood village, and it is managed for nature conservation. A wetland meadow, 800 trees and a 200-metre hedge have been created. Flowers include ragged robin, oxeye daisy and knapweed.There is access by a footpath from Thornwood Common High Road, south of Woodside.

North Weald Bassett, or simply North Weald, is a village and civil parish in the Epping Forest district of Essex, England. The village is within the North Weald Ridges and Valleys landscape area. A market is held every Saturday and Bank Holiday Monday at North Weald Airfield. The market used to be the largest open air market in the country but reduced its size over the years.

North Weald railway station is on the Epping Ongar Railway, a heritage railway, located in North Weald, Essex. The station was opened in 1865 by the Great Eastern Railway, on its extension from Loughton to Ongar. It was latterly a Central line station on the London Underground between Epping and Blake Hall stations. The section beyond Epping to Ongar closed in 1994.

Thornwood is a hamlet in the civil parish of North Weald Bassett, in the Epping Forest district of Essex, England. It is on the B1393 road (the former A11), about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) north-east of Epping. The hamlet contains a village hall, a small industrial estate and a trout fishery.

Coopersale, also termed Coopersale Common, is a village in the civil parish of Epping, within the Epping Forest District of Essex, England. In 2018 it had an estimated population of 1019.

Weald Common Flood Meadows is a 1.9 hectare Local Nature Reserve in North Weald Bassett in Essex. It is owned and managed by Epping Forest District Council.The site consists of two meadows created for flood defence, and managed for biodiversity with the creation of a wet meadow, which is dominated by flowers such as cowslips and ragged robin. Newts and frogs breed in ponds and ditches, and grass snakes and common lizard bask on sunny days.There is access to the southern area from a track off the High Road next to the village hall, but no public access to the northern area.
