Central High School Neighborhood Historic District

The Maxwell F. Mayer House is a historic house at 2016 Battery Street in Little Rock, Arkansas. Built 1922–25, it is a two-story Tudor Revival structure, designed by Little Rock architect Maximilian F. Mayer. The styling is unusual for its neighborhood, which consists mainly of Craftsman and Colonial Revival houses. It has a side-gable roof with a large projecting gable at the right end, whose right roofline descends to the first floor to shelter a porte-cochere.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.

The Dunaway House is an historic house at 2022 Battery in Little Rock, Arkansas. Designed in the Craftsman Style, it is located on a boulevard on Battery Street. The two-story brick house is in the Central High School Neighborhood Historic District. It was designed by architect Charles L. Thompson of Little Rock in 1915. The Dunaway House features a terra-cotta gable roof with a portico over an arched entrance. It has a south-facing two-story wing with a hip roof. The house was listed individually on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

The Pearson–Robinson House is a historic house at 1900 Marshall Street in Little Rock, Arkansas. It is a 2+1⁄2-story brick building, with a dormered hip roof, and a broad porch extending across the front. The porch is supported by brick piers, and has a bracketed eave. It was built in 1900 by Raleigh Pearson, and was purchased in 1903 by future United States Senator and Governor of Arkansas Joseph Taylor Robinson. It has also been home to Governors George W. Hays, Charles H. Brough, Thomas C. McRae, and Tom Jefferson Terral.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

The J.P. Runyan House is a historic house at 1514 South Schiller Street in Little Rock, Arkansas. It is a 1+1⁄2-story wood-frame structure, with a dormered and flared hip roof and weatherboard siding. The roof extends in front over a full-width porch, with Classical Revival columns supporting and matching pilasters at the corners. The roof dormers have gable roofs, and have paired sash windows, with fish-scale cut wooden shingles in the gables and side walls. It was built in 1901 for Joseph P. Runyan, a local doctor, and was later briefly home to Governor of Arkansas John Sebastian Little.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.

The Charles Clary Waters House is a historic house at 2004 West 22nd Street in Little Rock, Arkansas. It is a two-story wood-frame structure, with a gabled roof, weatherboard siding, and a brick foundation. Its prominent feature is a massive temple-front portico, with two-story fluted Ionic columns supporting a dentillated entablature and fully pedimented gable. The house was built in 1906, and is a prominent local example of Classical Revival architecture. It was from 1911 to 1927 home to Charles Clary Waters, a prominent local attorney who served for many years as a US District Attorney.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

The John Henry Clayborn House is a historic house at 1800 Marshall Street in Little Rock, Arkansas, USA. It is a two-story structure, built out of wood framing reinforced with concrete, with its exterior finished in brick. Its front façade is symmetrical, with the center entrance flanked by banks of three windows, topped by a shed roof that continues to the side, where it forms a gable. Built in 1932, the house is noted for its association with Bishop John Henry Clayborn, a leading advocate of the education, spiritual development and civil rights of African Americans in Arkansas.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

The James Mitchell School is a historic school building at 2410 South Battery Street in Little Rock, Arkansas. The oldest portion of the building is a four-room structure designed by Charles L. Thompson and built in 1908. It was enlarged several times, notably by Thompson in 1910 (adding four rooms), and Thomas Harding, Jr. in 1915 (again adding four rooms), and 1952. Harding's addition gave the building its prominent Classical Revival entrance portico. The school property includes two outbuildings that also houses classrooms. The school was originally a segregated facility, serving only white students, but the end of segregation (achieved in Little Rock in the early 1970s) transformed the school into one that served its predominantly black neighborhood. It was closed in 2005.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009. In 2017, the Charter Authorizing Panel of the Arkansas Department of Education approved a proposal to open a K-5 charter school, ScholarMade Achievement Place, in the Mitchell building, targeting an opening date for the 2018–2019 school year.

The Stewart House is a historic house at 1406 Summit Street in Little Rock, Arkansas. It is a 1+1⁄2-story wood-frame structure, with a distinctive blend of Queen Anne and Colonial Revival styling. It was built about 1910 to a design by Arkansas architect Charles L. Thompson. Its asymmetric massing, with a high hipped roof and projecting gables, is typically Queen Anne, as are elements of the front porch. Its Ionic columns and dentillate cornice are Colonial Revival.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Arkansas Baptist College (ABC) is a private Baptist-affiliated historically black college in Little Rock, Arkansas. Founded in 1884 as the Minister's Institute, ABC was initially funded by the Colored Baptists of the State of Arkansas. It is the only historically black Baptist school west of the Mississippi River. The Main Building on its campus, built in 1893, is one of the oldest surviving academic buildings in the state, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.

Little Rock Central High School (LRCH) is an accredited comprehensive public high school in Little Rock, Arkansas, United States. The school was the site of forced desegregation in 1957 after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that segregation by race in public schools was unconstitutional three years earlier. This was during the period of heightened activism in the civil rights movement.Central is located at the intersection of Little Rock Nine Way (a section of Park Street, designated in September 2022) and Daisy L. Gatson Bates Drive (formerly 14th Street). Bates was an African-American journalist and state NAACP president who played a key role in bringing about, through the 1957 crisis, the integration of the school. Central can trace its origins to 1869 when the Sherman School operated in a wooden structure at 8th and Sherman streets; it graduated its first class on June 13, 1873. In 1885 the Sherman School was moved to 14th and Scott streets and was named Scott Street School, but was more commonly called City High School. Five years later in 1890, the Peabody School was constructed at West Capitol and Gaines streets. It was named in honor of philanthropist George Peabody from US$200,000 received via the Peabody Education Fund. In 1905, the city founded Little Rock High School at the intersection of 14th and Cumberland streets, and shuttered the Peabody and Scott Street schools to serve as the city's sole public high school. Until 1957, only white students were permitted to be enrolled. In 1927 at a cost of US$1.5 million, the city completed construction on the nation's largest and most expensive high school facility, which remains in use today. In 1953 with the construction of Hall High School, the school was renamed as Little Rock Central High School. It has since been listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places and named as a U.S. National Historic Landmark and National Historic Site. Central High School, which covers grades 9 through 12, had an enrollment of 2,476 in school year 2020–2021. It is in the Little Rock School District, and serves sections of Little Rock and the entirety of Cammack Village. Nancy Rousseau was appointed principal in 2002, and retained that position as of 2022.

The Lamb-McSwain House is a historic house at 2124 Rice Street in Little Rock, Arkansas. It is a single-story wood-frame structure, clad in a brick veneer with half-timbered wood and stucco gables. It is a sophisticated expression of Craftsman style, with sloping square paneled columns supporting the porch, and gables with extended eaves supported by large brackets. The house was built in 1926 by John W. Lamb, a United States Postal Service employee, and is architecturally significant as a rare local example of a house built from mail-order blueprints (still in the current owner's possession) by an African-American.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.

The Arkansas Teachers Association Headquarters Building and Professional Services Building are a pair of historic commercial buildings at 1304 and 1306 Wright Street in Little Rock, Arkansas. Occupying adjacent lots with a shared parking area and landscaping, the two buildings are both single-story brick structures, designed by George Tschiemer & Associates and built in the early 1960s. The buildings were listed as a pair on the National Register of Historic Places in 2018, for the role of the Arkansas Teachers Association, an association of African-American educators, in its work during the Civil Rights Era of the 1960s to end segregation in the state.
