Barclay Square

Barclay de Tolly Monument (Estonian: Barclay de Tolly monument) is a monument in Tartu, Estonia. The monument is erected in the honor of Baltic-German field marshal Michael Andreas Barclay de Tolly. The monument is listed as cultural heritage monument of Estonia.The monument is designed by I. Demut–Malinovski and A. Stsedrin. The monument opened in 1849.

Kesklinn (Estonian for "City centre") is a neighbourhood of Tartu, Estonia. It has a population of 6,517 (as of 31 December 2013) and an area of 1.80 km2 (0.69 sq mi).

The Ülikooli Street (Estonian: Ülikooli tänav, University Street) is a street in the center of Tartu in Estonia. Named after the University of Tartu whose main building is located on this street (18 Ülikooli str.), it runs through the business district, passes behind the Town Hall building, and hosts a number of University-related facilities, including the university cafe (20 Ülikooli str.), Von Bock House, the university book shop (11 Ülikooli str.) and the old Faculty of Chemistry building, which is also called the Marx Building (16 Ülikooli str.). The Barclay Square, location of the Barclay de Tolli bust, and the Pirogov Square, location of the Nikolay Ivanovich Pirogov statue, are adjacent to the street. The street has also been named as "Silicon Alley" because of the high concentration of information technology companies.

Kissing Students (Estonian: Suudlevad tudengid) is sculpture and fountain in Raekoja plats, Tartu, Estonia. The structure locates in front of Town Hall Square. The structure is one of the most recognised symbols of Tartu.The fountain was built in 1948 and it was used especially by newlyweds who sought to find luck for future when standing there.The sculpture was created in 1998 by Mati Karmin.

Raekoja plats (English: Town Hall Square) is town square beside Tartu Town Hall (Estonian: Raekoda) in the center of the Tartu Old Town in Tartu, Estonia. It is a venue for numerous festivals like Tartu Hanseatic Days (Estonian: Tartu Hansapäevad), and several bars and restaurants locate in the near vicinity. The fountain and sculpture "Kissing Students" is located in front of Town Hall Square.

The siege of Tartu took place in 1224 and resulted in the fall of the last major center of Estonian resistance in the mainland provinces to the Christian conquest of Estonia.

Paraphrase E is one of a series of avant-garde drawings called paraphrases by Ado Vabbe in the Tartu Art Museum.The drawing shows a set of lines that act as partial contours of possible images, such as faces and the rear end of a horse. Ado Vabbe was the first to bring abstraction to Estonia after studying with Vassily Kandinsky and Franz Marc in Munich during the years 1911-1923. The German Expressionist Group Der Blaue Reiter was to have a great influence on his own work, and his "paraphrases" influenced young artists in Estonia.

Tartu Art Museum (Estonian: Tartu Kunstimuuseum) is a state-owned museum of art located in Tartu, Estonia. It was founded in 1940 on a private initiative by the members of local art school Pallas. This is the largest art museum in Southern Estonia. The main collection consists of works of art by Estonian and foreign artists, associated with Estonia, from the 18th century until now. The collection includes around 23,000 items. The museum presents temporary exhibitions drawn from the museum's collection, and in cooperation with Estonian and foreign museums and galleries. Exhibitions are held in a historical building situated by the Town Hall Square of Tartu.

Tartu Town Hall (Estonian: Tartu raekoda) is the seat of the city government of Tartu, Estonia. It is located on Town hall square, in the city centre.

Vanemuine Concert Hall (Estonian: Vanemuise kontserdimaja) is a concert hall in Tartu, Estonia. The hall is located next to Vanemuine Theatre. The hall is managed by Eesti Kontsert.The hall was built in 1970. The hall was designed by architects August Volberg, Peeter Tarvas and Uno Tölpus. In 1998, the hall was renovated (architect Avo Kuldkepp). In 2001, the hall's extension was finished.

Tartu Public Library (Estonian: Tartu Linnaraamatukogu) is a public library in Tartu, Estonia.Its predecessor was the library which was established in 1913 by Tartu Rahvaraamatukogu Selts. The City Library was established in 1920. In 1928, this library was named into the Central City Library. In 1936, new rooms were finished in Kompanii Street (nowadays, the library is also located in Kompanii Street).Between 1936 and 1937, the library has about 36,000 volumes.Between 1952 and 1987, the library was named in honor of Nikolai Gogol (Estonian: N. The Tartu Credit Center Massacre (Estonian: Tartu Krediidikassa massimõrv) was the mass murder of 19 people in the basement of the former Credit Center in Tartu on 14 January 1919.The execution was carried out just before the Bolsheviks withdrew from Tartu by order of the Estonian Counter-Revolutionary Commission of the Commune of the Working People of Estonia. Its best-known victim was Platon, the first Estonian Orthodox bishop.
