Pleasureland Southport

Southport Lifeboat Station is a former lifeboat station, located in the Victorian seaside town of Southport, situated to the south of the River Ribble estuary, historically in the county of Lancashire, now Merseyside. A lifeboat was first stationed here by the Southport Lifeboat Society in 1812, but was removed from service by 1817. A new boat was provided in 1840. Management of the station was passed to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) on 2 August 1860. The station was closed in 1925 due to silting of the coastline.

Southport Zoo was a 6-acre (2.4 ha) zoological garden in Southport, Merseyside, England run by Carol and Douglas Petrie. Historically within Lancashire, it was located close to the Pleasureland amusement park. It was home to 154 species of wild animals and birds, but closed in 2004. The animal collection included chimpanzees, lar gibbons, African lions, mandrills, flamingoes, giant tortoises, parrots, black-and-white ruffed lemurs, reptiles, owls and pheasants.

Central Radio is a British Independent Local Radio serving The Fylde, Preston, Leyland and Chorley areas of Lancashire. The station launched on 25 September 2008, having changed its name prior to launch from Proud FM, derived from Proud Preston on the city shield to Central Radio in order to better reflect the transmission area.

Southport Flower Show, held at Victoria Park in Southport, is the largest independent flower show in the United Kingdom. It was originally started in 1924 by the local council, but since 1986 has been operated by Southport Flower Show company, which is a registered charity. It is held annually for four days in late August and has attendances of over 80,000. The patron of Southport Flower Show since 1996 is Professor Stefan Buczacki. The UK's largest and longest running independent flower show, each year it attracts many celebrities from all over the world, from television and film to music and sport. As well as flowers, the show includes other attractions such as cookery demonstrations, gala dinners, music and horse riding displays.

Victoria Park Southport, Merseyside, England, is a public park. It is the venue for Southport Flower Show and several musical events. The show is traditionally held in August each year and has attracted both national and international film and TV coverage since the 1950s The park is also home to the British Musical Fireworks Championships which moved to the park from its previous home on Southport's Marine Lake in 2013. The British Musical Fireworks Championship is no ordinary competition, as each UK competitor who enters are required to synchronise their display to music, to win the competition. The park is also used for the RAF Woodvale Rally, that had to move to the location after Asbestos was discovered on the RAF base, just outside Formby in 2012. However this was cancelled in 2018 following a dispute with the organisers. It is also home to Southport & Birkdale Croquet Club.There are two crown bowling greens and pavilion which is home to Victoria Park Bowling Club.

The 15 in (381 mm) gauge, single track Lakeside Miniature Railway runs along the seaward side of the Marine Lake in Southport, England.

Southport Pier is a pleasure pier in Southport, Merseyside, England. Opened in August 1860, it is the oldest iron pier in the country. Its length of 1,108 m (3,635 ft) makes it the second-longest in Great Britain, after Southend Pier. Although at one time spanning 1,340 m (4,380 ft), a succession of storms and fires during the late 19th and early 20th centuries reduced its length to that of the present day. The pier has been host to famous entertainers, including Charlie Chaplin in the early 20th century. It was visited by steamliners in its heyday, but silting of the channel meant that by the 1920s very few steamers were able to reach the pier, and the service ceased in 1929. The pier fell into disrepair throughout the late 20th century, and by 1990 it was operating at a significant annual loss with rising maintenance costs. The local council sought to have the pier demolished, but were defeated in their attempt by a single vote. The pier was significantly restored during 2000–2002, and opened to the public in May 2002. The Southport Pier Tramway ran from Southport Promenade to the pier head at various times in the pier's history with various rolling stock, most recently until June 2015.The pier is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building, first listed on 18 August 1975.

Southport Lord Street (later also known as the Ribble Building, after being used by the Ribble Bus Company as a bus terminus) was a railway station located on Lord Street, Southport, Merseyside, England. It was the terminus of the Southport & Cheshire Lines Extension Railway from Liverpool. The station closed in 1952, the building was subsequently used as a bus station and later a supermarket. It is now a hotel.

Southport Model Railway Village is a tourist attraction located in Southport, England. It is a model village with a focus on trains and railways.

Southport Air Show is an annual event held in Southport, Merseyside, England, since 1991. The first show was the brainchild of Tourism & Attractions employee, Mark Brammar. The show takes place over two days, at the end of Summer, and attracts tens of thousands of spectators to see the many aircraft take to the skies above Southport and the displays that are held on Southport beach, making it the North West's largest Air Show.The flying programme includes military and civilian aircraft, classic jets, helicopters, aerobatics by the world famous Red Arrows, warbirds and parachute displays. The Southport Model Aero Club usually put on a model aircraft display before the start of the main air display. The show includes trade stands, interactive and educational displays, simulators and children's activities, as well as a military display with the highlight of a dramatic simulated battle on the beach involving army reserve forces complete with explosions and military vehicles. However, in 2007, the army units were unable to attend the event, due to operational commitments in Iraq. In 2009, a Eurofighter Typhoon made an appearance at the show. The 2010 Southport Airshow went ahead on Saturday 18 September with a display from the Red Arrows. The Sunday performances were cancelled due to poor weather, and heavy rain which caused flooding on the site.In 2011, the show included the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.In 2015, the show on the Saturday saw the final ever appearance of Vulcan XH558 at the airshow. The appearance of Vulcan XH558 also included a very late addition to the display line-up, with another last-ever formation of the Vulcan escorted by the Red Arrows Display Team.

Dukes is a Metropolitan Borough of Sefton ward in the Southport Parliamentary constituency that covers the western part of the localities of Birkdale and Hillside in the town of Southport. The ward population taken at the 2011 census was 13,333.

The Monumental Obelisk, Southport, stands on the Promenade in Southport. Merseyside, England. It commemorates a number of events, mainly relating to the work of the Southport lifeboats, and in particular the loss of fourteen lifeboatmen when their boat capsized in 1886. The monument was designed by Thomas Robinson, and is constructed in granite. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.
