Fareast International University (FIU) (Bengali: ফারইস্ট ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ইউনিভার্সিটি) is a private university located at Banani in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The university was established in 2013 under the Private University Act, 2010. It was founded by Sheikh Kabir Hossain, relative of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.FIU is currently operating trimester basis in 16 graduate and masters programs under the faculty of Business Administration, Engineering, Science, Liberal Arts & Social Sciences and LAW. FIU introduces international standard course curricula approved by the UGC of Bangladesh. Besides, there are different clubs and houses for debate, English language, indoor-games, cultural practices, and sports facilities for the benefit of the learners. It has research and academic collaborations with number of foreign universities.FIU is the first private university in Bangladesh selected by the Government to offer MBA Major in Project Monitoring and Evaluation. Moreover, FIU has established "Integrated Research Institute for Inclusive Development (IRIID)" for action research on various issues of the contemporary world and appropriate technology transfer for sustainable development.

On 28 March 2019, the FR Tower Fire broke out on the eighth floor of the 22-storey FR Tower in the commercial Banani area of Dhaka, Bangladesh around 1:00 pm BST. The fire claimed 25 lives and more than 70 people were injured. Duronto TV and Radio Today shut down their transmissions when the fire broke out because both of their offices were situated adjacent to the FR tower.

Royal University of Dhaka (RUD) (Bengali: রয়্যাল ইউনিভার্সিটি অব ঢাকা) is a non-profit, non-sectarian, private university in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The University Grants Commission (UGC) approved the academic programs on July 30, 2003, and on August 30, 2003, the Ministry of Education approved RUD under the Private University Act, 1992. RUD started functioning in 2004. Momtaz Begum, a philanthropist and social worker, is the founder chairperson. RUD operates at two campuses: the city campus and the permanent campus. The city campus is situated at Dhaka (House No-2, Road No-10, Block-E, Banani) and the permanent campus is located at Bashghari, Bhairab. RUD provides opportunities of higher education and learning for the individual citizen, public group and agencies of all nationalities, religions, races and colors keeping in perspective the needs of the changing environments in national, regional and global contexts.

North South University (Bengali: নর্থ সাউথ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়, also known as NSU) is a private university based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Its business school is the first Bangladeshi university to receive American accreditation from the ACBSP in 2015.

Mohammadpur Central University College is an undergraduate college in Dhaka, Bangladesh established in 1972. The college is basically a merger of three independent institutions — Dhanmondi Central College, Mohammadpur College and Mohammadpur Girls College. The founding committee to administer the institution was headed by Dr. Fazlul Halim Chowdhury, the longest-serving vice-chancellor of the University of Dhaka.The college awards degrees having the National University of Bangladesh as parent institution. Teaching plans are open for its instructors to make on their own, but major examinations are held under syllabus, schedule and administration of the National University.

Presidency University (Bengali: প্রেসিডেন্সী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) is a private university with two campuses, in Gulshan and Baridhara, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Presidency University has three schools containing four departments with a strong emphasis on research-based education. The Gulshan campus was established in 2003. In 2008, the university opened a second campus in nearby Banani, Dhaka to cater to the growing number of students. Two new campus added in 2020 at Baridhara, Dhaka. More than 1,500 students are enrolled. The number of faculty members teaching at the university is nearly 100.
