Bullcroft Colliery

Skellow is a village in the Doncaster district, in the county of South Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, the village is roughly 5 miles (8 km) north-west of Doncaster. The village falls in the Askern Spa Ward of Doncaster MBC. To the north and south is mixed farmland, the A1 runs immediately along the western edge of the village, and to the east Skellow merges with the adjacent village of Carcroft along the B1220 road.

Adwick le Street and Carcroft—consisting of Adwick le Street, Carcroft, Highfields, Skellow and Woodlands—is one of 21 electoral wards in the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England. It forms part of the Doncaster North parliamentary constituency. The ward is a stronghold for the Labour Party. In 2011 it had a population of 16,894. The ward was formed in 2015.

The West Riding of Yorkshire's Adwick le Street Urban District existed until 1974. Within the former urban district lies the model village of Woodlands, built for Brodsworth Colliery.

Outwood Academy Adwick is a mixed secondary school and sixth form with academy status located in Woodlands, South Yorkshire, England. It has a comprehensive admissions policy, with 1,070 pupils on roll as of 2018.The school is operated by Outwood Grange Academies Trust, and the current principal is Andrew Scruby. It publishes a newsletter, Outlook Magazine, on a termly basis.

Burghwallis is a small village and civil parish in rural South Yorkshire, England. The population of the civil parish as of the 2011 census was 300. The village is situated amongst mixed farmland and woodland on a slight rise roughly six miles north north west of Doncaster, or one mile off the A1. The village church is dedicated to St Helen. The village pub is the Burghwallis.

Owston is a small village and civil parish in the City of Doncaster in rural South Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, the village is situated amongst mixed farmland and woodland 6 miles (9.7 km) north northwest of Doncaster, just west of the A19. It had a population of 170 in 2001, which fell to 145 according to the 2011 Census.The name 'Owston' is of Old Scandinavian and Old English origin. It means 'East farmstead', being composed of the Old Scandinavian word austr ('east') and the Old English word tun ('farmstead'). In the Domesday Book, the village was recorded as Austhun. John de St Paul, Archbishop of Dublin, was born in Owston in about 1295. He was sometimes referred to as John de Owston. Close to the village is a site of special scientific interest called Owston Hay Meadows which is the second best example of neutral grassland hay meadow in South Yorkshire. The site consists of three small fields which together cover 13½ acres (5½ hectares) and were notified in 1979.The parish church of All Saints is Grade I listed, dating back to 1180.Nearby Owston Hall was declared a Grade II listed building in 1967, its grounds are used by the Robin Hood Golf Club of Doncaster.Dario's Ristorante is an Italian restaurant located on the edge of the village adjacent to the A19, in the premises previously occupied by The Owston, formerly Owston Park Lodge.

Woodlands is a model village 4 miles (6 km) north-west of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, England. The village lies adjacent to Highfields and Adwick le Street within the City of Doncaster. The colliery village was designed and built in the early 20th century by the architect Percy Houfton as tied cottages for the miners of the neighbouring Brodsworth Colliery. In an era of model villages such as Saltaire, Port Sunlight and Bournville, Woodlands, with extensive open spaces, many different designs of houses, and overall living conditions excellent for their time, possibly represents the height of the model village movement. The village is a conservation area.

Highfields Lake is an ornamental lake in the Woodlands wildlife park at Highfields, north of Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England.It is filled by the Pick Burn, which then flows on to join the River Don as Bentley Mill Stream. The lake was originally built by the owners of Woodlands, a country house that lent its name to the model village built for the miners of Brodsworth Colliery.The lake now forms part of High Country Park and Woodlands wildlife park, run by Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council, whilst Woodlands is now a social club. Doncaster Greenway North passes to the north of the lake alongside the A638 road.
