The Hot Metal Bridge is a truss bridge in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, that crosses the Monongahela River. The bridge consists of two parallel spans on a single set of piers: the former Monongahela Connecting Railroad Bridge, built in 1887, on the upstream side and the former Hot Metal Bridge, built in 1900, on the downstream side. The Monongahela Connecting Railroad Bridge carried conventional railroad traffic, while the Hot Metal Bridge connected parts of the J&L Steel mill, carrying crucibles of molten iron from the blast furnaces in ladle transfer cars to the open hearth furnaces on the opposite bank to be converted to steel. During World War II 15% of America's steel making capacity crossed over the Hot Metal Bridge, up to 180 tons per hour. The upstream span was converted to road use after a $14.6 million restoration, and opened by Mayor Tom Murphy with a ceremony honoring former steel workers on June 23, 2000. The bridge connects 2nd Avenue at the Pittsburgh Technology Center in South Oakland with Hot Metal Street (South 29th Street) in the South Side. The downstream span reopened for pedestrian and bicycle use in late 2007 after two years of work. The Great Allegheny Passage hiker/biker trail passes over this bridge as it approaches Pittsburgh's Golden Triangle area. The Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation was responsible for managing the decorative lighting project for the bridge, which was lit with energy-efficient light-emitting diode (LED) and optical fiber technology on June 12, 2008. The Hot Metal Bridge was inducted into the North America Railway Hall of Fame in 2016.

Fort Robert Smalls was a Civil War redoubt built by free blacks for the defense of Pittsburgh in 1863.It was named in honor of Robert Smalls, a man who escaped from slavery in Beaufort, South Carolina with his crew and their families by capturing a Confederate transport ship and piloting it to the safety of a Union blockade around the harbor of Charleston, South Carolina in 1862.

The Shrine of the Blessed Mother, also known as Our Lady of the Parkway and the Queen of Peace, is located at 6 Wakefield Street in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The shrine overlooks the Penn-Lincoln Parkway (I-376). Built in the Vernacular style, the shrine historically and currently acts as a place of worship for Catholic worshippers. In March 2020, Preservation Pittsburgh nominated the site for City of Pittsburgh Historic Landmark status. Pittsburgh City Council voted to designate the Shrine of the Blessed Mother as a historic structure on October 6, 2020.

SouthSide Works is an open-air retail, office, entertainment, and residential complex (often referred to as a lifestyle center) located on the South Side of the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, U.S. and just across the Monongahela River from the Pittsburgh Technology Center, the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University. The $300 million complex ($441.9 million today) opened in stages between 2002 and 2004 and offers more than 34 acres (140,000 m2) of shops, offices, hotels and apartments, and has a new urbanist design. The site has over 330,000 square feet (30,000 m2) of specialty retail, restaurant, hotel, and apartment space. In addition, the site has 700,000 square feet (70,000 m2) of office space.

J&L Tunnel is a tunnel on CSX Transportation's Pittsburgh Subdivision, at the former location of Jones and Laughlin Steel Company (now the SouthSide Works). The tunnel was used to allow trains on the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad to bypass the Jones and Laughlin steel mill, by passing under it. Starting in 2011, work was performed, as part of CSX Transportation's National Gateway project, to raise the clearance inside the tunnel, allowing double-stacked container trains to pass through the tunnel.Above the tunnel is a small park called Tunnel Park.

South Shore Riverfront Park is a 3.4-acre park that spans from 25th to 29th streets along the south banks of the Monongahela River upriver from Downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. The park is situated on the site of the former Jones & Laughlin Steel Mill, and is adjacent to the SouthSide Works retail and residential complex. The park opened to the public in May 2012. It is a parcel of Three Rivers Park, the city's urban waterfront park along its rivers that provides a continuous green trail link between existing and future riverfront destinations. Completed segments of Three Rivers Park include North Shore Riverfront Park, Allegheny Riverfront Park, and Point State Park. The Three Rivers Heritage Trail and Great Allegheny Passage run through South Shore Riverfront Park. It is owned by the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh, with maintenance coordinated by The Soffer Organization and Riverlife.

The Oakland Public School also known as the Holmes School in the South Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was built in 1893 and expanded in 1899. It is believed that Ulysses J.L. Peoples designed the building. The school was scheduled to be closed in 1986.The school no longer exists; it was torn down several years ago, and where it once stood is now the Holmes Place Condominiums. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

The Entertainment Technology Center (ETC) is a department at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. It is located at the Pittsburgh Technology Center. The ETC offers a two-year Masters of Entertainment Technology (MET) degree, jointly conferred by Carnegie Mellon University's College of Fine Arts and School of Computer Science. Students enrolled in the ETC learn interdisciplinary skills in design, art and technology, and are prepared for environments where artists and technologists work hand-in-hand, such as theme parks, interactive museum exhibits, website design and development, and the creation of video games.

McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine is a medical research institute which is a partnership between the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States.

Becks Run is a tributary of the Monongahela River. As an urban stream, it is heavily polluted, receiving combined sewer outflow from Carrick (Pittsburgh) and Mount Oliver, Pennsylvania. There is a waterfall on a tributary, just downstream from a slate dump, near the intersection of Wagner Avenue and Mountain Avenue. There were coal mines along the stream, including Becks Run #2, owned by the estate of James H. Hays, served by an incline and the H.B. Hays and Brothers Coal Railroad. Other mines at various times were operated by the Birmingham Coal Company, H.G. Burghman, Jones & Laughlin, and the Monongahela River Consolidated Coal and Coke Company.It is the namesake of the Pittsburgh and Beck's Run Railroad (1877-1880), which ran from the Smithfield Street Bridge to the Jones and Laughlin Iron Works, and was absorbed by the P&LE Railroad. A former town, located where Becks Run enters the Monongahela, was also named Becks Run.

Beck's Run School (also known as Dower's Tavern) located at 1000 Becks Run Road in the Arlington Heights neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was built in 1899. This former two story and two room school house was used almost up until World War II. It later became known as Dower's Tavern (currently "Down the Road Saloon"). It was added to the List of City of Pittsburgh historic designations on September 28, 1987.

Four Mile Run, also known as Ruska Dolina (Rusyn Valley), is a valley in the Greenfield section of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. The small neighborhood formed around the growth of Pittsburgh's steel industry as Rusyn immigrants settled in the area for employment at the nearby steel mill in the Hazelwood neighborhood and formed St. John Chrysostom Byzantine Catholic Church.Essentially it is the southern portion of Junction Hollow that lies beneath the heavily-traveled Interstate 376, or Parkway East, which is elevated 85 feet (26 m) above "The Run" via the 1,060-foot (320 m) Four Mile Run Bridge. For Pittsburghers, it is a place driven over and seldom seen, although St. John Chrysostom Byzantine Catholic Church's golden lit domes can be observed from the Parkway East (Interstate 376).
